Implementation: Our objectives can be achieved through the implementation of social entrepreneurial (Social Business) workshops; thereby creating a community of organisations that can support one another, with the facilitation of key bodies’ creative and social entrepreneurial skills. Workshops, which will be developed in partnership with Dr. Divina M. Edralin, will provide skills to organisations and local communities and will cover topics including innovation, leadership, action learning, reflection, engagement strategies, management, marketing, administration, finance & social return on investment, pitching and presentation. Community Cultural Development tools and processes (community development that incorporates important ethical practices such as cultural consciousness and working with indigenous communities) will be used throughout implementation. Skills gained through workshops can be incorporated into organisations’ artistic and therapeutic activities already in operation and into new community projects. Programs to incorporate into project CCC’s pilot: Livelihood project with the Bukidnon Cultural Community in Sitio Sibato, Silay City, Province of Negros Occidental; Maximizing the use of indigenous materials found in their surroundings by transforming them into products such as baskets and blinds. A lack of funding resulted in the project’s closure. ‘Bantay Bata 163’ would like to continue, and believe that the partnership with Nomadic Hands will be of great help.

Community incentives A ‘Food for Work’ project is planned for the duration of the community workshops. At the completion of their workshop program, participants will be reimbursed with food for the meals they required during their attendance.!

In November 2011 consultations within the Bukidnon indigenous community took place. A need for environmental protection, cultural rejuvenation and economic development was identified. The development of creative social entrepreneurial workshops commenced with assistance from Dr. Divina Edralin, Full Professor at the Business Management Department, College of Business De La Salle University Manila, Philippines.

On the 6th of February 2012 a community building workshop and cultural performance took place within the community, in relation to relevant social business education.

In January 2012 practical demonstrations of creative social entrepreneurial workshops were held were held for Bantay Bata and the Bukidnon community, in Sitio Sibato with a local musician.

In March 2012 Approximately 20 Bantay Bata staff members, who will be contributing assistance to running the community workshops, will be offered a three-day intensive training about creative social entrepreneurialism. This will give staff the knowledge to run workshops in the local language.

During October and November 2010 consultations began between Nomadic Hands and Anti Child Labor organisations throughout the Philippines. Bantay Bata 163, Bacolod and Nomadic Hands initiated a partnership.

From April to May 2012 Music and art appreciation classes will be held in the community.

Creative classes including drumming, singing, dancing song writing and painting will be offered to the community two weekends per month as part of an effort to both encourage family participation, and to regenerate the loss of culture within the community including dialects and rituals. Particular emphasis will be placed upon reconnecting community elders with children for the hand-down preservation of culture through the generations.

MS. SIMONE FRANCIS Founding Facilitator Nomadic Hands

Dear Ms. Francis,

Warm greetings from ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc.- Bantay Bata 163 Negros!

Thank you for considering ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc. – Bantay Bata 163 Negros to be your partner in your proposed “Project Connect, Collaborate, Combat”, the purpose of which is to empower communities in the Philippines, specifically the adopted communities of our Foundation located in different areas of the Province of Negros Occidental, to reduce the worst forms of child labor and other social issues that they are facing, in a sustainable manner. Child labor is prevalent in our province and your proposed project can help contribute in stopping this vicious cycle.

Aside from its Direct Child Assistance Program, which includes Medical Assistance Program for Indigent Children and Legal Assistance Program for Children Who are Victims of Abuse, and, Community Outreach Program which includes Medical & Dental Missions, Surgical Missions, Supplemental Feeding Program and Art Workshops for Children Who are Victims of Abuse, Bantay Bata 163 Negros is also very active in its awareness campaign on child abuse, conducting trainings and workshops for partners, in communities and schools as well as Street Education. Sessions on Responsible Parenthood, Parenting Skills, Health and Nutrition as well as Livelihood Seminars are also being given to parents and other stakeholders in several communities.

The Social Entrepreneurial Workshop that Nomadic Hands has proposed will be of great help to our communities that have needs for this. We believe in teaching them skills and in imparting them with knowledge that would sustain them even if we or any other organization will move on to help other communities. These will make them independent, good decision-makers as well as problem-solvers; life skills that will enable them to face life’s challenges.

We are looking forward to a fruitful partnership with Nomadic Hands. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at +639052365808 and cs. [email protected].

Once again, thank you and more power.

Very truly yours,

CARYL ANNE S. DIAMANTE Officer In-charge Bantay Bata 163 Negros

Dear Ms. Francis, Greetings of peace! First of all, allow me to express our appreciation for your visit and for giving us a glimpse of the different advocacies that your organization, Nomadic Hands, is into.

We are happy to note that both our organizations have similar advocacies and engagements.

The Social Action Center being the hallmark of the church’s involvement in the life of the poor in the Diocese reaches out to its people with the goal of making an impact in the formation of social conscience by promoting programs that create social awareness and coordinated responses to social issues. It is also hoped that by allowing the poor to become co-workers in the social transformation.

Nomadic Hands has shown us the different programs that it engages in and we are pleased to learn that it has a lot of commonalities with the Social Action Center that we fully support.

We hope we can join forces in certain areas of engagement especially where human rights and ecological issues are concerned.

We are hopeful that this cooperation between our organizations aimed to collaborate in opening fair trade links between the Philippines and Australia and reduce child labor problems especially the worst forms of child labor here in Negros.

There is so much to be done and the challenges seem to be overwhelming but with the cooperation and sincere efforts of all stakeholders, our lives and that of our oppressed brothers and sisters will be improved.

We fervently hope we can work together in finding ways to make this world a better place.

Sincerely Yours,

REV. FR. ANICETO A. BUENAFE, JR.

To Whom it may concern, Union Aid Abroad – APHEDA endorses the project Connect, Collaborate, Combat by Nomadic Hands which combats child labour in the Philippines. Child labour in the Philippines is a serious problem which requires urgent action. It is depriving many hundreds of thousands of children of their childhood and the chance of an education. Union Aid Abroad – APHEDA has a long history of working to overcome child labour in the Philippines, our first project was with children working in the sugar plantations in 1989, and today we assist a project focussing on child workers in Manila’s garbage dumps. Given our long experience in child labour issues, I have no hesitation in endorsing the Connect, Collaborate, Combat project by Nomadic Hands for your support. Yours sincerely,
