Spring Oaks From the Desk of the President I wish thank all those vendors who participated in the SOHA Trade Show on July 10, 2012 and want to also thank the few residents of Spring Oaks for stopping by to see what they had to offer in the way of services or merchandise. I will be meeting with the Board in August to discuss having another show around March 2013. This will be a show whereby we invite local restaurants/fast food stores to participate. We will keep you updated on this forthcoming event. Many thanks go to those people who take pride in their homes and yards by keep- ing them in great shape. Keep up the great work. I am sending a list of the follow- ing violations to the City Code Enforcement for corrective action. These include unkempt yards (front and back), unkempt houses (windows broken out, garage doors in disrepair, soffits falling down), trailers [parked on lawns, in driveways, beside houses and on the streets]. If you live next door to one of these places, notify me and I will address it with Code Enforcement. We have to get our neighborhood cleaned up. I will also be addressing two addresses in Spring Oaks with the Health Department that have garbage and high grass around the property making it unsafe for the children living there. It has also been reported by the surrounding residents that the property is now infested with rats. And, along with rats comes snakes. This makes it an unsafe environment not only for the residents living at this address but also to others. Such properties as this also cause property values do go down. It has been relevantly quiet in Spring Oaks and many neighbors that I have spo- ken with are quite happy about that. However, like any other community, we need to be good neighbors and keep noises down. Also, we don’t have a Neighborhood Watch Coordinator for SOHA and would like for someone to step up and volun- teer to be the contact between the City and SOHA. The Board will help with this endeavor. Please get involved in OUR community and volunteer to help YOUR Board of Directors. We are working to make this community one that all of us can be proud to call OUR NEIGHBORHOOD. REMEMBER – September is nomination month for Board Members and No- vember is Voting Month. Both of these will occur at the General Meeting for those Months. You must be present to vote on these issues. In closing, let me say thanks to the Board members for the job you have done since the beginning of 2012. Together, we will make a difference! aks From the Desk of the President

I wish thank all those vendors who participated in the SOHA Trade Show on July 10, 2012 and want to also thank the few residents of Spring Oaks for stopping by to see what they had to offer in the way of services or merchandise. I will be meeting with the Board in August to discuss having another show around March 2013. This will be a show whereby we invite local restaurants/fast food stores to participate. We will keep you updated on this forthcoming event.

Many thanks go to those people who take pride in their homes and yards by keep-ing them in great shape. Keep up the great work. I am sending a list of the follow-ing violations to the City Code Enforcement for corrective action.

It has been relevantly quiet in Spring Oaks and many neighbors that I have spo-ken with are quite happy about that. However, like any other community, we need to be good neighbors and keep noises down. Also, we don’t have a Neighborhood Watch Coordinator for SOHA and would like for someone to step up and volun-teer to be the contact between the City and SOHA. The Board will help with this endeavor. Please get involved in OUR community and volunteer to help YOUR Board of Directors. We are working to make this community one that all of us can be proud to call OUR NEIGHBORHOOD.

REMEMBER – September is nomination month for Board Members and No-vember is Voting Month. Both of these will occur at the General Meeting for those Months. You must be present to vote on these issues.

In closing, let me say thanks to the Board members for the job you have done since the beginning of 2012. Together, we will make a difference!

Pets and DisastersIn Case of Disaster … PROTECT your pets!

Everyone can benefit from having a household evacuation plan in place. It’s the best way to protect your family in case of disaster, whether it’s a large-scale natural catastrophe or an emergency that causes you to leave your home temporarily. Every disaster plan MUST include your pets.

Keep up to date identification on your dog or cat at all times. Make sure that the collar is properly fitted (avoid chain link collars for dogs and use breakaway collars for cats). It’s a good idea to have a friend’s or family member’s phone number on your pet’s identification tag in case you can not be reached.

Have current color photographs of your pet, showing any distinguishing markings, with your emergency supplies. If you and your pet become separated, these photos will help identify him/her.

If you know a disaster is imminent, bring your pets inside immediately! Get your animals under control as quickly as possible, either on a leash or inside a carrier.

Disasters often strike suddenly, while you’re away from home. You can improve your pet’s chances for safety if you leave him/her inside, with collars and identification tags, when you go out. Consider an arrangement with a neighbor who would be willing to evacuate your pet in your absence. Make sure that person knows your animals, can locate your emergency supplies, and has a key to your house. Provide him or her with instructions and phone numbers.

Place a notice on your front door advising what pets are in the house and where they are located. Provide a telephone number where you or a contact can be reached as well as the name and number of your vet. If You Evacuate, Take Your Pets!

Your animal’s best protection is to be with you, but remember, taking your pet requires special planning since MOST SHELTERS DO NOT ALLOW PETS.
