THE 4 BARKING DOGS YOU NEED TO IGNORE:

Barking Dog #1: PEOPLE'S OPINIONS
All that is noise. Sadly, I've met many people whose entire life is based on noise. Their selfconcept is built on other people's
fickle opinions. Many people crave for other people's approval like a drug. When people applaud them, they feel high. But
when people criticize them, something in them dies. They're like addicts going through withdrawal symptoms. Why? Be-
cause of inner wounds of the past, they've become approval junkies. Don't get me wrong. Listening to others is very im-
portant. But before you listen to other people's opinions, you need to listen to God's opinion. And if you listen to His opinion,
He says, "You're amazing. You're beautiful. You're phenomenal.”

Sometimes, other people don't understand your unique mission, and so they evaluate you based on their missionwhich is
a huge mistake. Never try to be someone you're not; The only way you can inspire others is by being yourself.

Barking Dog #2: UNCONTROLLABLE FRUSTRATIONS
If the frustration is under your control, by all means, take charge. If you failed in Algebra last week, study all you can to get
an "A” next week. But if the frustration is something you can't control, ignore the noise. For example, traffic frustrates a lot of
peopleand it's uncontrollable. So ignore it. When traffic comes, talk to God. Make a 3year plan for your life. Pray for oth-
ers. Listen to an audio talk. Or think about your activities for the next day. Or compose a song. Or interview people around
you. Make traffic irrelevant to your existence.

Let me give you a secret. When I tell you this, you'll think I'm weird. (Hey, I think I'm weird too.) I've now come to enjoy traf-
fic. I know it's crazy, but I just realized it's a gift from God to pause. What are the uncontrollable frustrations in your life? Your
life is not defined by what happens to you, but what you do to what happens to you. Let it go.

Barking Dog #3: NEGATIVE PEOPLE
There are many negative people around you. Ignore the Desperate Bullies. These people intimidate you with the force of
their words, their personality, and their anger. They will take advantage of your kindness and use you for their purposes.
They will manipulate you. If someone gives the poison of hostility, don't answer back. Just walk away. If you're forced to
speak, speak only from a position of peace. Never be pulled down to their level. Ignore the noise; just keep walking.

Ignore the Demanding Baby. Years ago, a woman told me how I failed to be a real friend to her. She told me how hurt she
was because of what I did not doI didn't take care of her, I didn't call her up, I didn't ask how she was. I asked for for-
giveness, and I tried to be more caring and thoughtful. But every few weeks, she'd come to me, telling me how I hurt her
again. That's when I realizedI will never please her. When she was a child, her father abandoned her. And as an adult,
she was looking for that fatherly love from authority figures. I had to learn how to ignore the noise, just keep walking.

Ignore the Dream Snatchers. There are people who will throw a wet blanket on any fire in your heartbecause, for a long
time, they have no fire in theirs. Ignore the noise; just keep walking. There are many other Negative People. The complain-
ers. The knowitall. The gossipers. The liars. Ignore the noise!

Barking Dog #4: PAST FAILURES
Perhaps you fell into sin last year. Perhaps you failed in your job last year. Perhaps you failed in your relationships last year.
Friend, past failures are like a barking dog. They will constantly haunt you, nag you, discourage you, and pull you down.
Everytime you think of your failures, you're filled with fear. And you think that you're bound to repeat them endlessly.

Let me give you one final point: "Sometimes, when things are falling apart, that means things are falling into place.” Do you
have a broken heart today because a relationship didn't work out? It seems like things are falling apart, but believe me,
things are falling into place. Because God is just removing people that shouldn't be in your life. Ignore the barking dog of the
past. Just keep walking! When you ignore the noise, you can listen to God's voice. (By BO SANCHEZ)

May all your dreams come true! Love.

PARISH LIFE
We will celebrate the Anointing of the Sick at all the weekend Masses next
weekend, October 23 & 24.

The Letter of James states that the sick are to be anointed in order to raise them up
and save them. The Anointing of the Sick is the sacrament that the Church provides for
those whose health is seriously impaired by sickness or old age. In this sacrament the
Church supports the sick in their struggle against illness and continues Christ’s work of
healing.

This sacrament has three separate and essential aspects: prayer of faith, the laying on
of hands, and the anointing with oil.

1. Prayer of faith: The community, asking God’s help for the sick, makes its prayer of faith in response to God’s word
and in a spirit of trust. It is the people of God who pray in faith. The entire Church is present in those gathered the
priest, family, friends, and the sick themselves, join in this prayer.
2. Laying on of hands: The laying on of hands has several meanings: as a sign of blessing, as we pray that by the
power of God’s healing grace the sick person may be restored to health or at least strengthened in time of illness,
and above all it is the biblical gesture of healing.
3. Anointing with oil: Anointing the sick with oil signifies healing, strengthening, and the presence of the Spirit.

If you, or someone you know is in need of healing you are encouraged to come for the anointing. You
can also contact the parish office at any time to request anointing for yourself, or someone you know.
WANTED: JOYFUL DISCIPLES!
There are many wonderful opportunities to experience the joy of making connections
with other parishioners by giving of your time and talent! Many hands make for lighter
work. Look how you can get involved:

Coffee house attendants St. Walter’s version of baristas! We hope to return this
ministry after Christmas but need to start organizing now. Can you help?

Greeters Those wonderful people who welcome us to Mass every weekend. Are you
someone gifted with a great smile and a willingness to welcome others? This is an ideal
way to serve the parish family.

Wedding Hospitality Team As more couples are celebrating their weddings at St. Walter, we want to form teams to
assist with greeting the wedding parties and their guests, setting up the church, answering questions. You can be part of
welcoming new couples into the joyful family of St. Walter parish. No previous experience necessary. Training provided!

Baptism Hospitality Team Similar to the needs of the Wedding Hospitality team, the Baptism team is there to greet the
families presenting their children for Baptism. Setting up the church for the Baptism, welcoming the families and guests,
taking photos, answering questions are amongst the skills needed for this ministry. Training provided!

New Families Welcome Team Be a part of the team that warmly welcomes all new parishioners to our St Walter family.
Some of the ways that we accomplish this most important task are initial phone calls, welcome bags and a quarterly new
family breakfast with Father Mario. Meetings are minimal. Rewards are great!
Ushers Those mainstays of every weekend liturgy, the ushers are there to assist people with finding seats, answering
questions, welcoming, carrying the cross in the opening procession. If this appeals to you, we would love to have you.
