Nellai(also known as Thirunelveli) is a historic city located on the banks of Thamirabarani River in TamilNadu. It was ruled by the Great Pandyas and hence has its fair share of beautiful temples. It is a hub of many famous schools, colleges and government offices. The major source of economy in Nellai is Agriculture.The famous Nellaiyappar temple for Lord Shiva has been made famous in the verses of Thevaram, a 17th century work by Sambandhar, a renowned Tamil poet. Nellai Tamil is one of the dialects spoken and is also called “ Thenpandi Tamil”. Thirunelveli is known for its Halwa, a sweet made of wheat, sugar and ghee. It has been made famous by Iruttu kadai halwa shop started in the 1900s that still sells the sweets only at twilight.
