JIM-TRICHY

The Story of JIM is a story of a decade of students, parents, faculty, staff

and alumni/ae who believed in the Jesuit ideals of higher education and who

gave heart and voice to the founding principle of St. Joseph’s College.

From 2007, with a clear mission focus on ‘Forming Responsible Leaders,’ JIM has sent out to the corporate world nine batches of MBA graduates. They make a difference in

the institutions where they work. That difference is, I believe, a testimony to

what JIM stands for. We want to celebrate the ten years of our

service in management education with an array of events and

programmes. Celebration should not end merely in fireworks or in

spectacular shows. Instead, it should end in evolving a new meaning to the mission that

JIM is involved in and must make efforts envision a future for JIM. Therefore we have decided to spend time to evolve a Strategic Plan for JIM to move to a higher level that

would make JIM compete in the league of the best B-Schools in India and beyond.

Decennial EventsDISCOVER TRICHY

Decennial Celebrations begin with “Discover Trichy” programme. It will be a rediscovering

of the forgotten heritage and legacy of the city. A cyclothon followed by a symposium on “Business Opportunities in Tourism in

Trichy” will be held in collaboration with the Government of Tamil Nadu.

SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS AND POVERTY ERADICATION

A symposium on “Sustainable Business and Eradicating Poverty” will discuss businesses that promote sustainable future by looking at the reality of poverty, taking the special case of farmers’ plight. This symposium

intends to propose solutions to issues and problems businesses in Trichy have and will

suggest possible ways for running sustainable businesses. To celebrate the World Food

Day during this month, the owners of hotels in Trichy, more than hundred, will come

together along with sustainable organic farm produce to display with NGO and discuss how they could make Trichy a hunger free city. Later that day, we will arrange to serve

food to the needy, with the assistance of non-government organisations and other volunteers. By this, JIM will help its students learn and connect their learning with society

to become responsible business leaders.

“GIVETRY” (GIVE TIRCHY)“GIVETRY” is JIM’s flagship event, a prelude to the forthcoming Decennial Celebrations. The idea behind is that JIM functions and

lives on the goodwill of the people in Trichy. Therefore, it is imperative for the MBA

students in JIM to give back to the city, by asking ‘What can I give back to Trichy?’ The first of its kind in this part of India, JIM will involve its students and other stakeholders in this major altruistic activity. A talk show by distinguished people will be held in the

evening highlighting the importance of “Giving Back” to the society. As a part of student outreach, JIM students organise

farmers in villages around Trichy to form Farmers’ Clubs and Producers Organsations,

with the help of NABARD. This aims at making students assist farmers with their marketing and management skills to price

their agri produces and sell them profitably.

International Conference on “Future of Learning in Management Education”. The future of management education

is determined by its ability to adapt to the changing economic environment and to shape

it by high quality research, an innovative teaching curriculum and deep engagement

with business and other stakeholders. It requires an increasing emphasis on

‘boundary-crossing’ skills that build on specialised knowledge but encompass such attributes as collaboration, communication,

leadership, problem-solving and critical thinking. This conference will address these

issues and other concerns to learn about the future and relevance of management education.

JIM ALUMNI/AE CONGRESS

JIM invites all its Alumni/ae for a Decennial Congress in February 2017. To

this end, we have hired an agency to develop a web portal by which we intend to create a JIM Alumni/ae community. As a prelude to

this, in November we will have an evening with Alumni/ae during which

we will design the structure of the Congress. In future, JIM will make its resources available for

on-going training of Alumni/ae.

NETWORKING WITH INDUSTRIES / INSTITUTES

JIM plans to map industries in and around Trichy city and beyond for networking that would enable learning and formation at JIM relevant and related

to real time world. In addition, we have invited industry partners to assist in teaching in

JIM as guest faculty.

In addition to the present networking with Fu Jen University, Taiwan, London School of Commerce and Anglia Ruskin University (UK) we are linking

with B-Schools in Asia, North America and Europe for exchange of students and faculty and for joint

conferences and joint research.

of businesses. With experts in management education on the editorial board and industry

practitioners on the advising panel, JIM intends to contribute to the mission of making

management education relevant and innovative.
