join us for an evening celebration at the national Theatre of Panama, one of the country’s most beloved landmarks. Your night begins with sangria and tapas at lovely Plaza Bolívar ringed with restaurants and cafés. From there it’s a short stroll to the theatre, which opened to great fanfare in 1908 and has been likened to a miniature version of Russia’s Mariinsky Theatre. You’ll understand why as you look up at the dreamy fresco ceiling and elegant gold arches. Tonight’s special entertainment is a medley of songs, music and dance telling the story of Panama from early indigenous people through the end of Colombian rule. This bright, vibrant performance will add to your appreciation of Panama past and present, as the country enters a new era with its ambitious canal expansion project.

Immerse yourself in vietnamese culture and folkloric music at Binh Quoi village, a lush garden setting of coconut palms, gentle creeks and colourful lanterns. Expressive vietnamese folkloric music shares feelings and tells stories, harmoniously blending royal music with folk lyrics. It also absorbs musical traditions from other Asian cultures for a style that’s all its own. Tonight’s colourful entertainment of songs, dance, and traditional instruments will be held in the main restaurant inside the village, with cocktails, beer and vietnamese finger foods before and during the show. You’ll be charmed by the hat dance, choreographed around the resourceful functions of vietnam’s ubiquitous conical hat.

Undiscovered by Westerners until the

1930s, the indigenous Huichol people

are known for their peyote rituals,

colourful yarn art and beadwork.

When the Spaniards arrived in Mexico, the Huichol natives retreated to deep seclusion in the rugged Sierra Madre Mountains. As a result, their art and traditions remain one of the purest expressions of pre-Spanish Mexican culture. Tonight you’ll travel to the Sierra Madre foothills for a celebration of Mexico past and present including Huichol ceremonial dance performances, a mariachi band, a horse and lasso show, and more. In a beautiful setting under the stars, enjoy margaritas, Mexican coffee and post-dinner treats from Chef Hilario Hernandez, who has cooked for two Mexican presidents. You’ll also see the Huichol demonstrate their colourful, intricate beadwork and embroidery, and have an opportunity to sample Mexican tequila.

If the beautiful Thai dance rituals don’t

hold your attention, the brilliant

gemstones and silks will.

Celebrate a Thai festival at Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall in the Ancient City, a lush 200-acre site of splendidly reproduced temples, shrines, palaces and stupas. Throne Hall, the Ancient City’s crowning masterpiece, is the site of tonight’s Loi Krathong ceremony and entertainment. The Thai love their festivals, and this is a particularly lovely one as lotus-shaped containers (krathong) are launched over the water (loi), symbolising release of negative emotions and behaviour. Your evening also includes a variety of regional dances, such as the tricky and challenging bamboo dance, crafts demonstrations by local artisans, and Thai delicacies and desserts paired with local beers and Mai-Tais.

Step into the inspiring landscape of Wirikuta, a botanical desert garden that’s the site of this evening’s entertainment. The grounds of the garden contain 1,500 species of desert plants, a labyrinth of bonsai bougainvilleas, and three granite-boulder pyramids constructed in an ancient sacred design. Enjoy local sweets and desserts, Mexican coffee, hot chocolate, beer and wine as you watch a dramatic procession of indigenous tribal dancers accompanied by music and percussion. Entertainment includes traditional dances, demonstrations of warrior skills, and a percussion-driven “gods and masks” dance. Tonight, let us carry you away to the romantic setting of a French chateau in the Provencal countryside. Traditionally owned by noble families, the chateaux of Provence were a popular gathering place for intellectuals, artists and politicians throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. They were also working farms surrounded by rolling vineyards and lavender fields. Step back to those earlier days and sip a glass of champagne as you’re welcomed by a French galoubet (a pipe or flute), drums and a folklore group performing traditional dances. Enjoy sweets, desserts and wines, then settle in for the evening’s highlight performance by a well-known opera singer with musical accompaniment.

Tonight you’ll be entranced by a live opera performance at the beautiful goldoni Theatre, a classic mid-18th century hall that has hosted star performers and musicians for more than 150 years. Opera is at the pinnacle of Italian musical arts, and you’ll be swept under its spell with this professional preview of the first act of Puccini’s Tosca featuring sopranos, tenors and a 50-piece orchestra. A heady mix of intrigue, deceit, murder, love, and idealism, Tosca opened in Italy in 1900, one hundred years after the events it depicts on stage. As is often the case, the critics panned it but the public loved it.

Everyone knows what samba is, but you don’t really know what samba is until you’ve seen it performed live. Tonight you’ll visit Plataforma 1, one of Rio’s leading show houses, to watch samba’s 500-year history unfold through song and dance in a colourful, eye-popping show. The athletic performers who learn their moves at Brazil’s famous samba schools will be on full display in this riveting performance that ends with a parade of costumes in the rich colours of the Brazilian flag. Think of it as a taste of Carnival without the crowds! You’ll be welcomed before the show with a refreshing caipirinha cocktail, Brazil’s national drink.

In 1921, Rodolfo Valentino launched a

worldwide tango craze with his seductive

performance in Four Horses and the Apocalypse. Today tango continues

to inspire a passionate following.

In the late 19th century, waves of European immigrants gradually displaced the rustic gauchos who lived in Buenos Aires. The children of these immigrants were called porteños, and their influence on traditional life caused sadness and apprehension among local residents. Tango became an expression of the passionate emotions people felt as they saw their way of life disappearing. This evening, please be our guest at a traditional tango show of song, dance and music at Tango Porteño, one of the best-known theatres in Buenos Aires. Your event includes Argentine wines, desserts and sweets, and table seating for the performance backed by a live orchestra.
