For this project I ventured in to the Green Man. A religious store tucked right in between a very commercial area. This
cabin like structure stands out amongst the hair salons, liquor stores, and various supply stores surrounding it. It’s curious appearance is inviting. I just wanted to open that
door!!!!!!

A general overview of the layout. The table that is located right around the middle is surrounded by various tables and shelves put up
against the wall. They all display different relics, sculptures, books, herbs, oils etc. One feels the need to have to walk around to see
everything that decorates the edges of the store. And the smell of incense made this wonderful little space have a calmness that is
contagious.
The materials for a bone reading. The psychic scheduled to give me a reading explained that this type of practice originates in
Africa. Generally, the bowl or basket contains bones and other organic materials such as shells or rocks. The materials are
thrown in to a circle drawn in the sand. From the proximity and orientation of the object’s landing place, the religious specialist
can gain insight on things otherwise unknown.
While at the Green Man I got a tarot card reading from one of the multiple psychics available. You get to choose who does the reading for you based on
description of their religious backgrounds. My reader actually has a background in Anthropology and Theology which made feel comfortable
asking questions. But the many psychics have a number of different backgrounds. During my reading we went in to specifics about the future of
my career. But they can address aspects of money, health, and relationships as well. It was my first time getting a reading and it was a fun experience.
One of the things of particular interest at the store, was that it was collection of many symbolic items from a number of different religions
and spiritual believes and not just one. Here we have Egyptian symbols. A pentagram which has many different meanings in many
different religions. A dream catcher which is Native American. And so many more. The variety shows us that people with a mind open to many different religious ideas frequent this place. And that people
with all sorts of backgrounds can find something appealing to them
This was a collection of different crystals and rocks. The green tabs offered descriptions of intended uses or symbolism each different one possessed. A
single type of stone had many different uses and symbolism. Stones can used to control anxiety, bring good fortune, economic growth, harnessing
energy, healing a physical ailment, protection from evil and so much more. The actual use for each stone mostly depends on the user and what their
religious views and beliefs are.
Many reading materials were available. In just this one section of the book shelf we can find a variety of material addressing different aspects of spirituality such as crystal
healing, astral projection, different types of magic and deities. Various materials having to do with the supernatural
and mysticism.
The Green Man also has an assortment of different oils, spices, and herbs. These are used to make different teas and scents.
Some may use the aromas simply for it’s appeal. While others may use to alter the state of consciousness such as feeling in love or
relaxed. There are certain blends that attempt to provide a desired outcome from drinking or burning. Certain herbs or oils might
even have similar uses for people of varying religious believes.
Sage and sweet grass is something that is commonly used in many rituals. And can be usually found in different religious stores.
In many different practices sage and sweet grass are believed to cleanse an area where a ritual will take place. So these herbs have
a rightful place in a store that incorporates facets of many different believes since they are used in a similar fashion
throughout these various practices.
In my opinion this shot captures the essence of The Green Man. You can see boxes to keep stones and symbols. Medallions that can be used as a
form of expression or symbolize the personality of the person wearing it. A crystal ball to look in to the future. Stone and crystals. Mortar and pestles for grinding herbs. Jewelry, incense holders and much more. It is a great
place for people compelled and drawn to mysticism, metaphysics and the supernatural. Open to people of various backgrounds and believes.
