Please pray for these concerns of our partner church in Malawi, Mtenthera CCAP: • Praise and thanksgiving that prayers have been an-

swered and the 7 elders have been restored to the session and their former responsibilities at Mtenthera CCAP. • Food security—the harvest will not be good this year.

Please pray that our friends in Malawi have enough to eat and that we can support them with aid and training to improve their food supply this year and in years to come.

• The call of a new full time minister. They are now being served by their second visiting pastor and we pray the church not become discouraged as they wait for the new minister expected soon.

• Building of the girls’ hostel. • Rev. Banda, the former pastor, still awaits a call to a

new congregation. Pray for patience as he waits God’s call upon his life and also that his family is provided for during this time of transition.

• Prayers for the Synod-wide meeting (gathering of rep-resentatives from each church in the Nkhoma Synod) taking place on Friday, 28th August and finishing on 3rd September. The Nkhoma Synod has many large challenges they are facing and Rev. Vasco

Kachipapa, General Secretary of the Nkhoma Synod, would greatly appreciate our prayers.

It’s normal to feel over-whelmed, angry, and alone. Knowing what’s normal in grief, helps you to work through the process of grief. For this reason, our church is sponsoring the From Grief to New Hope workshop. This workshop will be hosted by our church, but presented by New Hope Center for Grief Support, a Christian-based be-reavement outreach center. The class will begin on Tuesday, October 20th and meet for 8 consecutive Tuesday nights from 7:00 to 8:45 p.m. There will be a presentation about an aspect of the grief process each week followed by an opportunity to share in a small group setting. If you’d like to attend this free workshop or know someone else who could benefit from it, please fill out a registration form located in the pews or in the narthex. Sponsor a College Student for the Passion Conference

One of our college students dubbed the 2015 Passion Conference in Atlanta, GA as "the most powerful worship experience I've ever been a part of." Together with 20,000 college-age students gathered at the Phillips Arena in Atlanta, GA, our group of 6 students who attended the 3-day conference on January 3-5, 2015 came home ready to take on 2015 with a new kind of excitement for their faith. It was an experience they won't soon forget. This year, we hope to take 10 college-age students to Passion 2016 but they need your help! We have a goal of raising $4,400 to help cover travel, conference and accommodations beyond what each student will contribute on their own. Please consider supporting our students as they ignite their faith with peers from all over the world on January 2-4, 2016. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

That’s right, only 84 more days until the big day so that means it’s

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD SHOEBOX TIME Today in Sunday School, the children will learn about the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox project. Each

child will come home with an empty shoebox and instructions on how to fill their shoebox. They will have

seen a video on all the places shoeboxes travel to and how a simple shoebox can make a BIG difference in a

child’s life. Last year we collected over 150 shoeboxes but we’re going BIG this year. Our goal is a

whopping 200 shoeboxes!

Next week. members of the congregation will get to hear about this project and will be able to pick up a shoe-

box of their own to fill. But today it’s all about the kids!!!

Nominations Sought for the 2015 “Carol Dodge” AwardNominations Sought for the 2015 “Carol Dodge” AwardNominations Sought for the 2015 “Carol Dodge” Award

In recognition of a remarkable woman who attended this church faithfully for over ninety years, Presbyterian Women

created the “Carol Dodge” award. This honor is awarded each year and goes to one woman within FPCP who

exemplifies a Christ-like attitude through (1) prayer; (2) Bible study: and (3) living out her Christian faith. Nominations

for the 2015 “Carol Dodge” award will be accepted through November 15, 2015.

Nominations should list why the person nominated has made a significant impact to the life of FPCP based on the criteria

listed above. All nominations will be reviewed and the final selection will be made by a group selected by the Presbyter-

ian Women Coordinating Team. All nominations should be placed in the Presbyterian Women mailbox in a sealed enve-

lope, marked “Nomination.”

If you are nominating someone, please place your name on the nomination letter. Further information may be needed.

This award will be presented at the annual “Festival of Tables,” which will take place on Monday, December 7, 2015.

Our brothers and sisters in Malawi are facing a serious food crisis during this coming dry season. The floods in the

southern region and inconsistent rains in the central and northern regions have resulted in very poor crop yields

throughout the country. Many families are already experiencing food shortages, and it will be many months before

they can plant and harvest crops again. The hunger commi&ee at our partner church, Mtenthera CCAP, has already

purchased and distributed maize to hungry families, but there is not enough to last through the long hunger season.

As a direct result of the Malawi Mission Network Conference held here in August, our Na�onal Interna�onal Mission

Commi&ee (NIMC) has been in contact with the Malawi Mission Network (MMN) Leadership Team about this concern.

In turn, the MMN Leadership Team has been communica�ng with the three CCAP Synods in Malawi, and the

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) in the US, to help coordinate efforts to support those in need. They are ac�vely

developing a plan for ac�on, but need our help.

How can you help? There are several ways WE ALL CAN HELP.

First, the PC(USA) has called for a na�onwide Day of Prayer and Fas1ng on Friday, October 16th

(World Food Day). Join

with others to pray for God’s mercy for those experiencing hunger and food insecurity, and if you are able, par�cipate

in fas�ng that day. There is an excellent devo�onal guide and a guide for Biblical fas�ng available on our church web-

site (www.fpcp.net) and on the PCUSA website at h&p://pda.pcusa.org/situa�on/malawi-flooding/ There are also

copies of these two documents on the welcome table in the narthex.

Second, you will have the chance to par�cipate in a Day of Ac1on on Sunday, October 18th

at FPCP. There will be a

special offering collected that day for Malawian food aid. Please prayerfully consider if you are able to help with a

dona�on. If you are able to contribute, our Na�onal Interna�onal Mission Commi&ee will ensure that the funds will be

distributed in Malawi for food aid.

The need is great and people are already hungry. Please prayerfully consider how you can be involved and how you can

help. Thank you.
