Principals Report
Welcome
I would like to welcome everyone back from what I hope was a relaxing and enjoyable holiday break.
2018 was a fantastic year and we are all excited with what lies ahead in 2019!!
We will continue to work with John Fleming (Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) Leader and creative high quali-
ty, fun and engaging lessons for all students across all Key Learning Areas. We look forward to continuing
our Creative & Critical Thinking journey as well.
We welcome Miss Healy and Miss Muir who join our fantastic team at Arcadia Vale PS.
The students have settled into their new classes very well and it has been a pleasure watching the students
and teachers work so closely together and thoroughly engage in a variety of lessons in the classroom and
activities in the playground.
It has been great to walk around during the mornings or after school having conversations with parents
and caregivers. The students have come back to school fresh and look fantastic in their full Arcadia Vale
Public School uniforms. Thank you and it is amazing to see the positive culture we have at our school and
within the community.
Kindergarten 2019
Our 2019 Kindergarten students started ‘big’ school yesterday. They all looked amazing in their uniforms
and it was great to see so many parents, carers and relatives at the school for their first day. Our Year 6
buddies did a great job with the students as they greeted them straight away and made them feel very
welcome at our school. We look forward to watching them settle in further throughout their first week!
Thank you to Newcastle School portraits (NSP) who took great photos of our Kindergarten students on
their first day!
Permission notes and money
Excursions, performances, extracurricular activities and representing Arcadia Vale Public School are consid-
ered important parts to a child’s education, learning and development. When your child and or/children
are involved in an activity, they will receive a note when payment is required for that particular school ac-
tivity. The permission note and money should be enclosed in a sealed envelope with your child’s name and
class, the amount of money and they activity that they are involved in. These can be dropped in directly to
the office of a morning or throughout the day. If the office is unattended, the money can be placed in the
box that says ‘Mail’ at the front counter. Payments can also be made online for your convenience.
**Please note: there is a designated cut off point for payments of all monies and collection of permission
notes. This cut off point allows for sufficient time for the receipting of money. If you have any concerns
with payment, please come and speak to the Principal.
*Statement of accounts have been sent home today with your child/ren
today.

Book Packs 2019
Book packs are now available for purchase for $30. You can pay at the office or online.
School Fees
The voluntary school fees for 2019 are $20. These can be paid at the office or online.
School Based Activities
All school based activities that are offered to students are mandatory. These provide opportunities for
them to explore their talents or even try something new which we highly encourage. This is not an op-
portunity for them to have the day off, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive school and community. If
you have any concerns, please come and see me and we can discuss further.
Office Hours
The school office hours are 8.45am – 3.15pm.
Attendance
If your child has to be absent from school, it is important that you inform the school and provide a reason
for your child’s absence. You can alert the school of their absence by: phoning the school, email, fax,
coming up to the school or via our Skoolbag application.
If your child has to go and see a doctor because they are unwell, please provide a medical certificate to
the school. All absences need to be explained to the school.
An SMS message will be sent directly to you from the school if your child/children are absent and you can
reply back to us via this communication method.
If your child/ren will be turning up late for school on any given day, please ensure that there is communi-
cation from parent/caregiver to the school, whether that is via a phone call or a note signed by the
parent/carer. It is important that we have this information as we need to keep the documented evidence
in line with policies and procedures. Here is a link to ‘Compulsory school attendance – information for
parents’ factsheet for you to reference.

* If you have a concern with your child’s academic progress, would like to know more about their
learning or have any concerns, please contact the office to make an appointment with your child’s
classroom teacher.
* If you are seeking further advice/support or action in regards to a matter, or have any confidential or
sensitive issues to raise/discuss, please contact the school to make an appointment to meet with
the Principal.
*Regular communication about upcoming events and general information will be put on Facebook and
Skoolbag applications. Newsletters will go out every 2nd Tuesday (even weeks).
*Parent/teacher interview opportunities will occur at the end of term 1 and term 3. Student reports will go
out at the end of term 2 and term 4.
*A parent information session will be held for all parents/caregivers will held during term 1.
School Volunteers
The majority of parents or close relatives who volunteer at their child's school are exempt from obtaining a
WWCC, and will continue to be exempt. That means day to day reading helpers, canteen helpers etc, who
are a parent or close relative to a child at the school at which they are volunteering, DO NOT need a
WWCC number. However, you do need to complete the Appendix 5 document and provide the school with
100 points of ID.
If you are a canteen volunteer or parent helper, please ensure you see Carol or Corrina in the office and
complete the 2 checks above when you come into the school next or beforehand to ensure requirements
are met.
Arcadia Vale PS Videos
At the end of 2018, Newcastle School Portraits worked with us to create 2 videos of our school highlighting
the many fantastic activities and opportunities that we provide at Arcadia Vale PS. These videos have been
edited and completed and will be uploaded onto our school website shortly. They are amazing!
Enjoy the week ahead!!
Regards,
Craig Atkins
Principal
