Guide to Global Citizenship.

Page 2: A Fly Guide To Getting A Passport

There are 196 countries in the world. And there are an infinite number of journeys that you can have. But if you don’t have your passport, 196 becomes a slightly smaller number: 1. Luckily, there are a mere 7 steps to unlocking the freedom of world travel. All of which can take place in a single room and for less than the price of a new iPhone.

Allow us at the Passport Project to illustrate. Saturday is National Passport Day after all, you had to know we’d have something to say.

step one: go to http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_5535.html

If for some reason you don’t have access to a computer, or if you’re nostalgic for some good ol’ fashioned paperwork fret not, you can simply do everything in person. keep reading.

step two: head to your local post office.

Once you’re there, you’re going to need to find the DS-11 Application and fill it out and just like that, you’re on your way to global citizenship without even leaving your house.

You’re going to need to present a few things in person. the first being the application itself and the others being: your birth certificate , your I.D. and a photocopy of that I.D.

step three: prove that you are a U.S. citizen. An original birth certificate will usually take care of this. or if you were born abroad, there should be an official record of the glorious day you began to exist. that will work too.

step four: take out your i.d. Once you have a passport, it will be the only identification form you will need. passports are accepted as primary identification in all places that a government issued i.d is, plus a few more. so cherish these last moments of that pedestrian method you use to prove who you are.

step five: take out that photocopy you made of your i.d Apparently, the travel department is fond of multiples and has not gotten the memo from the EPA on the whole save the trees thing.

step 6: come up off that dough. It will be the best $135 you ever spent. can a pair of sneakers get you to Tuscany? No? Ok.

step 7: take an official photo. Or bring your own. but leave the bathroom mirror shots for facebook and twitter.

And there you have it Passport Lifers. In a few short weeks you will get a minty, new Passport in the mail, just itching for stamps. It is your key to unlocking your potential. The life you were meant to live. Because how can we know who we truly are or what we can become until we actually go somewhere and get out of our comfort zones? Just always be sure that whenever you come back home from an adventure, you come back better than when you left.
