Diamonds:
Perhaps the most recognisable and beautiful gemstone in the world.
Diamonds are one of the hardest and expensive stones on earth.
Vividly coloured diamonds have been known to reach £500,000k per carat.

Rubies:
Rubies are incredibly rare, more so than diamonds.
They are made from the stone corundum and has the identical properties to the sapphire stone.
The things to consider with this stone are:
Size
Redness
Transparency
Sapphire:
These share the same lustre,
durability and hardness as the ruby.
The key difference is the colour.
Any colour other than red is
considered a sapphire.
The most common colour associated
with this gem is blue.

Emerald:
The weight of the stone is more
important than the size in terms of
price.
Large emeralds are extremely rare.
It is very valuable if you cannot see
through the emerald and if it
sparkles brightly, with light
reflecting from all facets.

Opal:
This is the national gemstone of
Australia.
It has an iridescent colour and is
known as opalescene as the colour
changes depending on the angle the
stone is viewed from.
The black opal is the most
expensive opal stone available and
can fetch over £1,200 per carat.
Zircon:
Zircon stone can be extremely
valuable and comes in an array of
colours.
Zircons undergo a mildly radioactive
process that destroys their crystal
structure.
Zircon can be heat treated to
enhance the colour and increase
transparency .
