Through two degrees in architecture and over three years of professional experience gained in practice, research and hands-on building construction, I have developed a balanced foundation in both tradecraft and design theory. I have chosen to invest myself in traditional tools such as sketching and modelmaking as well as in digital modeling, visualization and fabrication. Today I am seeking an opportunity to build on this base by participating more fully in professional architectural practice.

(re)Viaduct 6A H B

Every passenger train arriving in Montreal makes its approach to the Central Station by way of the existing CN viaduct. This project proposes pedestrian arcades be surgically cut within the kilometer-long, two storey structure, connecting existing transportation networks in the downtown core to a rapidly developing new district to the south. Additional proposals wherein the viaduct takes on new uses such as a market, cinema and a waterpark, seek to illlustrate the potential for symbiosis between infrastructure and everyday urban life.

This studio focused on the development of complex formal systems to address common challenges in high-density urban environments including access to daylight, programmatic hybridity and traffic circulation. These studies show the development of a system based on multiple interacting grids. Cells in each grid respond to hypothetical inputs of sun paths and circulation arteries by moving, rotating, growing and/or merging with neighbouring cells to form larger volumes.

Community Spa

Sited in a small town on the banks of the Grand River in South-Western Ontario, this community spa centers around a communal garden and its architectural language is drawn from that of local vernacular typologies. A sustainable design studio, the process was sensitive to environmental impacts from the beginning of the process, integrating green-building best practices from the massing through to the construction detailing of the proposed building.

Music Room

These studies for the design of a wall and a ceiling were created in response to a mandate calling for the design of a performance space from the inside out. Mainly working through physical models, the project attempted to find a symbiosis between the acoustical, structural and visual qualities of these architectonic pieces in composing a room for the performance of music.

Hanging Gardens

This temporary installation endeavoured to soften the harsh concrete landscape of the Grand River floodwall in Cambridge, Ontario, modifying recycled construction materials for use as irrigated planters in a hanging garden system. The installation was featured in the artical “Tactical Urbanism” in the Landscape journal Ground 25: Micro in the spring of 2014.

TableA red-oak frame designed to support a recuperated slab of white marble. The frame is elegant and strong, designed to recede once the marble is placed on top, accenting the size and thinness of the slab.

ChairA chair made from laminated plywoood, veneered with cherry and beech woods. The design was initially inspired by the reclining figure sculptures created by Henry Moore.

BriefI have been drawing cities since I was little. Through architectural study and work I have been able to travel to many fascinating places and have made a project of drawing as much as possible. These are a selection of the hundreds of drawings I have made over the past few years in cities around the world.
