Purpose of This Agreement

The purpose ofthis agreement is to outline the procedure for a Joint AdmissionsProgram between Suffolk County Community College (hereinafter identified as Suffolk) andThe State University of New York at Stony Brook (hereinafter identified as Stony Brook).

The Joint Admissions Program stipulates that upon admission to Suffolk in theprograms listed in Appendix A, students are guaranteed admission into the College of Arts andSciences at Stony Brook, provided they have completed their Associate in Arts or Associate inScience degree at Suffolk with a minimum cumulative grade point average of2.5.

Students are also assured that upon completion of an Associate in Science degree inEngineering Science with a cumulative grade point average of2.80 or higher, they areguaranteed admission to the major in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Science, ElectricalEngineering, or Computer Engineering in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences atStony Brook.

Suffolk students who complete an Associate in Science degree in Computer Sciencewith a cumulative grade point average of2.80 or higher and earn C's or higher in requiredcourses (as specified in the Undergraduate Bulletin) will be guaranteed admission to StonyBrook's Computer Science major. The Department of Computer Science reserves the right torequire proficiency examinations as a guide to determining course equivalencies andappropriate placement within Stony Brook courses.

Suffolk students who complete an Associate in Science degree in Computer Sciencewith a cumulative grade point average of2.80 or higher and earn C's or higher in requiredcourses, will be guaranteed admission to Stony Brook's Information Systems major. TheDepartment of Computer Science reserves the right, to require proficiency examinations as aguide to determining course equivalencies and appropriate placement within Stony Brookcourses.

Suffolk students who complete an Associate in Arts degree in Liberal Arts (generalstudies emphasis), an Associate in Science degree in Business Administration, or an Associatein Science degree in Accounting with a cumulative grade point average of 3.1 and who earnC's or higher in required courses, will be guaranteed admission to Stony Brook's BusinessManagement major.

Students are assured that it will be possible to complete their baccalaureate degree atStony Brook in four additional semesters (or the equivalent for part-time students) in theprograms listed in Appendix B provided they have completed relevant entry skills and generaleducation requirements and the lower division courses required by their major department as

outlined in the Undergraduate Bulletin. Completion of degree requirements within foursemesters is also dependent upon fall semester matriculation at Stony Brook and the student'sprogram of study and progress in completing the requirements of the major.

To be eligible for the Joint Admissions Program, students must complete the jointapplication form provided by Suffolk.

The Joint Admissions Program is open to:

1. Applicants to Suffolk who will be first-time, matriculated freshmen;* or

2. Transfer applicants to Suffolk who will enter with fewer than 24 credits ofcompleted college work, except students who were previously matriculated at StonyBrook; or

3. Any current matriculated Suffolk student who applies to the Joint AdmissionsProgram prior to the completion of24 credits of college work.

*Students on VISAS are not eligible.

Stony Brook and Suffolk agree jointly to provide the following:

1. Each institution will designate a coordinator and an academic advisor for the JointAdmissions Program.

2. Suffolk and Stony Brook will develop cooperatively, publications pertaining to theJoint Admissions Program.

Stony Brook agrees to provide the following for associate degree candidates at Suffolk whoapply for Joint Admissions:

1. Stony Brook representatives will meet at Suffolk with students in the JointAdmissions Program. The purpose of these meetings will be to provide academicadvice about Stony Brook's curriculum and general information about Stony Brook.

2. Stony Brook agrees to provide, as needed, information sessions with faculty andstaff of Suffolk who will be involved in consulting and advising students enrolled inthe Joint Admissions Program.

3. In consultation with Suffolk staff, the Stony Brook Transfer Guide for Suffolkstudents will be periodically updated. The guide will outline course equivalenciesfor required and recommended courses for each program of study included in theJoint Admissions agreement. The cost of this publication will be assumed by StonyBrook.

4. Stony Brook agrees to make the Stony Brook Transfer Guide available to JointAdmissions students.

Suffolk agrees to provide the following for associate degree candidates at Suffolk who applyfor Joint Admissions:

1. Suffolk will provide the necessary applications for students who want to apply forjoint admission to Suffolk and Stony Brook. The cost of printing the applicationwill be assumed by Suffolk.

2. Suffolkwill be responsible for selection of candidates to the Joint AdmissionsProgram. Applications will be evaluated according to the basic criteria in effect atSuffolk.

3. On October 1st and February 1st of each year, Suffolk will provide Stony Brookwith a list of all students participating in the Joint Admissions Program. Also atthis time, Suffolk will submit a list of the Joint Admissions students scheduled tograduate at the end of the semester who have indicated their intent to attend StonyBrook the following semester, along with copies of their transcripts.

4. By July 1 (for fall enrollees) and February 15 (for spring enrollees) Suffolk willsend Stony Brook official proof of receipt of associate's degree for JointAdmissions students.

5. Suffolk will assist III setting up advisement programs involving Stony Brookfaculty and staff.

Articulation for Transfer Students Not Participating in Joint Admissions:

Procedures outlined herein relate specifically to students who simultaneously apply toSuffolk and Stony Brook. Some students who apply to Suffolk have not decided upon theirultimate educational objective or transfer destination. During the course of study at Suffolk,they may decide upon transferring to Stony Brook.

The two institutions agree to make every effort to facilitate transfer to Stony Brook ofSuffolk graduates not covered by this agreement by making available to them the sameacademic advisement and consultation made available to Joint Admissions students. It isunderstood, however, that students not covered by the Joint Admissions agreement must applyand meet the admission standards of Stony Brook University.

Terms of This Agreement

This agreement will go into effect in the Fall of 2008. Students who have applied forthe Fall 2008 semester at Suffolk are eligible for the Joint Admissions Program. Theagreement will remain in effect for three years.

All students who apply through the Fall of 2011 to Suffolk will be eligible for JointAdmissions. Stony Brook and Suffolk agree to assess the Joint Admissions Program in threeyears with the intent of extending the agreement, making adjustments as necessary, andexpanding its scope to encompass other programs at Suffolk and at Stony Brook, asappropriate.
