A Joint Webinar of The Royal Institute of Navigation Small Craft Group and The Little Ship Club Date: Tuesday 19 January 2021 – 1900 hrs Subject: The Past, Present and Future of Nautical Information for Leisure Sailors Speaker: Lucy Wilson, MD of Imray Imray has been publishing nautical information since the mid 1700s, when a handful of cartographers, pilot book writers and instrument makers served merchant ships’ captains in the hubbub of the London Docklands. Leap forward nearly 250 years, and the company today uses the latest digital systems and data to produce charts, books and apps tailored to the needs of the leisure sailor. Lucy Wilson, Managing Director, will give a whistle-stop tour of the past, present and future of nautical publishing, focusing on Imray’s recent digital developments. About the speaker: Lucy is part of the eighth generation of the Wilson family to work for the company. Although she spent many school holidays folding charts, she officially joined Imray after a career in the arts and publishing in London. She steers the production and development of Imray’s 250 or so charts, 100 pilot books and its range of digital products, working with hydrographic offices, sailing authors, customers, cartographers, editors and software developers. It’s a time of change, not only for Imray but also within the wider marine industry as sailing habits are changing and technology is opening up huge opportunities.
