you’re a sponsor ofthe National Automobile

museum, and you Probably didn’teven Know it!

Here in Reno, we’re lucky to behome to one of the top-rated automuseums in the world, The NationalAutomobile Museum. And yourSierra Nevada MBCA Section is aproud sponsor!

What does that mean to you?Well, since your club is the sponsorof a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SLGullwing on prominent display atthe museum, all of our membersget special benefits:• Members get free admission intothe facility, plus a 50% discount forany guests, during normal businesshours.• Members can request freeguided tours of the museum, sub-ject to the availability of the tourguides.• Members receive a 10% dis-count at the National Auto Museumgift shop. The museum has our memberlist on file, so just tell the cashieryour name and that you’re a mem-ber of the Sierra Nevada Mercedes-Benz Club of America. You’ll getyour free museum admission anddiscount at the gift shop.

The National Automobile Mu-seum is located at 10 South LakeStreet in Reno, (775) 333-9300.

On the Yellow Line

fter three-plusdecades review-ing automobiles,I’m still notjaded. I alwayslook forward tothe next test

drive. That said, I’m not easily wowed, either. Most cars I review I enjoy in someway or another, largely because mostmodern automobiles are extremely com-petent—a far cry from the many disas-ters I tested in the 1980s. (I’m looking atyou, Yugo.) Still, it’s hard to get me re-ally revved up unless a car transportsme not just to a different location, but toanother state of mind. The Mercedes-AMG S63 rocketed my brain straight tonirvana. It’s Incredibly Great

Let me not mince words here: This$180,000 beauty with the handcrafted,603-hp twin-turbo V-8 blows awayevery other four-door sedan on the mar-ket. The S63 excels at everything. Speed? We’re talking about a 4,500-pound,sumptuously loaded, and blissfully spa-

Acious four-door that can scorch to 60mph in just 3.4 seconds and on to a topspeed of nearly 190 mph.

Luxury? Go on, look inside at thatgorgeous cockpit, made even moremouth-watering thanks to optionalPorcelain/Black Nappa leather ($4,450)and Designo black-lacquer trim ($1,300).Safety? Standard is just about every anti-accident feature you could imagine;with the optional driver-assistance pack-age ($2,250) the car is even safer and, incertain conditions such as stop-and-gohighway traffic, it can drive itself.

To top it off, the S63 is even quickerthan its more expensive and more pow-erful V-12 sibling. How, you ask? Well, the S63 has 4Matic all-wheel drive asstandard, aiding off-the-line traction, and the system isn’t available on therear-drive-only S65 AMG, whose V-12 issimply too torquey for the hardware.

It’s phenomenal. The handling is im-pressive, and while the S63 is big it feelslight in your hands, and the chassis bitesharder than you might expect.
