Out of 125 law schools vying for the highest rank, De La Salle Lipa College of Law emerged on top of the 2017 Philippine Bar Examinations which is reputed to be the toughest government licensure exam in the country.

The collaborative effort of the nine new Lasallian lawyers, namely, Atty. Karen Gaile L. Andaleon, JD; Atty. Carla Therese L. Arriola, JD; Atty. Princess Melody B. Bagui, JD; Atty. Kristine L. Castillo, JD; Atty. Jillian Kristin A. Deveza, CPA, JD; Atty. Marianito L. Dio Jr., JD; Atty. Roy Mikhail V. Galvez, JD; Atty. Ian Jerrick B. Inandan, CPA, JD; and Atty. Rowell B. Malabag, JD, garnered 100 percent passing rate.

In light of the successful turnout, it was only fitting to give thanks and celebrate the Lasallian lawyers’ milestone.

Administrators, led by President and Chancellor, Br. Dante Amisola FSC, professors and parents, new batch of Lasallian lawyers, and Law students gathered on May 17, 2017 at the Cafe Le Barako of Chez Rafael in anticipation of the testimonial.

The new Lasallian lawyers took turn in unravelling their varying and often bittersweet journeys.

Atty. Karen Gaile L. Andaleon, JD thanked her doting mother for never leaving her side throughout her challenging law student life.

Atty. Carla Therese L. Arriola, JD recalled when she was at her lowest during the Bar review, she reminded herself, “don’t forget what you’re doing it for.”

Atty. Kristin L. Castillo, JD redeemed her self-confidence after passing her second Bar exams.

Atty. Jillian Kristin A. Deveza, CPA, JD was the bearer of good news as she became the batch’s source of the institution’s top-notch results.

Atty. Marianito L. Dio Jr. managed to deliver a comical testimonial to the conflicts and trials he seriously struggled to overcome.

Atty. Roy Mikhail V. Galvez, JD wished he could have witnessed the sweet smile on his father’s face for passing the Bar. The latter passed away a week before the results came out.

Atty. Ian Jerrick B. Inandan, CPA, JD recounted his journey and inferred that it was all worth the colossal sacrifices he managed to make.

Atty. Rowell B. Malabag, JD expressed his deepest gratitude to the people and the institution that helped him realized a concrete step towards his dream.

The College of Law School Dean Emerito Enginco wrapped up the special occasion by citing the outstanding characteristics of each member of the batch. As a final challenge to his beloved passers he reminded them of the first part of the Lasallian prayer - that they are “always in the presence of God.”

DLSL Kicks Off Network Infrastructure Project

De La Salle Lipa officially inaugurates its Digital Campus Network Infrastructure project in partnership with Trends and Technologies, Inc (TTI), on May 11, 2017 at Mount Malarayat Golf and Country Club.

Hosted by TTI along with Avaya Philippines, this digital infrastructure project will replace the existing one on campus to align with the required technological innovation through delivery, implementation and activation of an agnostic fabric network and digital communication system.

According to Br. Dante Amisola FSC, DLSL President and Chancellor, “this partnership with TTI is not just about business, it is really a partnership for growth and development as we build the foundation of our school as a digital campus.”

Mr. Hasan Fard, TTI Chairman, assured DLSL that they would align its business and operations solutions to the DLSL project starting day one. Mr. Marc Tioseco, TTI Business Head, lead in the collaborative partnership, affirmed that the solution that they will implement would meet DLSL’s expectations to provide faster internet connectivity within the campus.

This network infrastructure project was granted to TTI last April 25, 2017 and the project installation is expected to be completed by August 21, 2017. This will provide the platform of DLSL’s digital campus initiative to assure that buildings within the campus are interconnected with the installation of a resilient network which is independent to power source

instability. It will also provide a multi-channel communication for DLSL Partners and support staff.

The inaugural event was attended by DLSL top administrators led by Br. Dante Amisola FSC, along with the members of the DLSL Executive Council, and top executives of Trends and Technologies, Inc., headed by Chairman Hasan Fard and Avaya Philippines Country Manager, Ed Doctolero.

“There will never be enough discussion on human rights.” It was the striking statement by Atty. Jose Manuel Diokno, De La Salle University College of Law Dean and son of the late Sen. Jose Diokno, founding chair of the Commission on Human Rights and founder of the Free Legal Assistance Group.

The young Atty. Diokno was one of the resource speakers at the human rights forum organized by the Philippine Council for Peace and Global Education (PCPGE). This was hosted by the Regional Center for Peace Education, De La Salle Lipa, on May 22, 2017 at an apt venue dubbed after the namesake of the guest’s father, Sen. Jose Diokno Auditorium.

The speaker’s insightful researches on crucial information that contribute to the unjustifiable human rights violations proved that they remain unresolved and worse, continue to prevail. It was an eye opener for the audience to discover that they were oblivious to the facts presented, which resulted in utter frustration.

DLSL Hosts PCPGE’s Human Rights Forum

May 15 is a historic date not only for Lasallians but for educators as well. It was the same day in 1950 when Pope Pius XII declared the founder, St. John Baptist De La Salle, Patron Saint of Christian Teachers.

The entire DLSL community celebrated the event by commencing with a Holy Eucharist in the morning for the students and another in the afternoon for the Lasallian Partners.

Highlights of the event included a heartfelt veneration through the installation of the founder’s portrait, a familiar image that now adorns a prominent place in each classroom; and the DLSL family bonding over a feast of potluck to commemorate the founder’s legacy that has reached more than 300 years.

But Atty. Diokno presented feasible solutions and countermeasures. This was supported as well by the subsequent resource speaker, Dr. Virginia Cagawas, Adjunct Professor at the University of Alberta, as she presented “Critical and Transformative Pedagogies for a Culture of Peace.” The prolific author dissected national and global concerns on crises and contradictions to give a better perspective of the big picture.

Dr. Cagawas elucidated that physical violence, structural violence, human rights violations, cultural violence, violence on the environment, and lack of inner peace are only some of the daily ordeals that people tend to ignore like the “elephant in the room.”

Educational institutions play a key role in “building a culture of peace” through “transformative education,” she pointed out. An example of which is the “pedagogical principles in peace education,” which may use dialogical creative pedagogies in the form of group analysis, conflict mapping, storytelling, community engagement, to name a few.

After a whole day of discussion, an initial concrete step was taken as attendees were asked to come up with a proposed action plan and capped with a presentation of their commitment.

June 1, 2017. This was held at the

Capilla de San Juan Bautista de La

Salle, on top of the completers’ recent

milestone.

Attendees composed of

administrators, faculty members,

parents and students, were all ears as

they listen to the first homily at DLSL

by the archbishop who hails from

Camarines Sur. His words to the young

ones were full of wisdom and served

as the best reminder to students

on what truly matters and how they

could achieve it in their own way.

Although academic achievements

are admirable fruits of one’s

labor, the newly appointed Lipa

Archbishop urged the 277 Grade 6

completers to prepare for the grand

graduation - salvation. To reach the

ultimate destination, he related

DLSL’s tagline of “Driving What’s

Next” to pick the ideal phase. “Don’t

drive too fast” was his tip and that

they should only allow one driver to

lead them - Jesus Christ.

Arch. Garcera confirmed how

fortunate the young Lasallians

because the “gospel is about Jesus

praying for us,” good news, indeed.

Lastly, he strongly advised the

students to thank their parents and

commended the DLSL community

for holding the Eucharistic

celebration, as it is an expression

of gratitude while it echoes the

gratitude of Jesus Christ.

Inter La Salle Sportsfest:A Decade of Solidarity

It has been ten years since the organized sports league between Lasallian Partners (employees) from different La Salle schools in the country commenced. It has evolved through the years and now involves more events, including cultural competition.

The anniversary was marked by another unforgettable friendly sports match participated in by eight schools, namely, De La Salle Araneta University, De La Salle-College of St. Benilde, De La Salle-Health Sciences Institute, De La Salle Santigao Zobel, De La Salle University-Dasmariñas, De La Salle University, La Salle College Antipolo, and this year’s host, De La Salle Lipa.

The two-day tournament was held on May 27 and June 3 with the opening ceremony on the second day. This was inspired by the theme, “Celebrating 10 Years of Promoting Lasallian Solidarity and Teamwork thru

Sports Competition.” The program kicked off with a parade by school as athletes strutted on the court donned in their official uniform.

Special Asstant to the President for Lasallian Initiatives, Br. Leonilo Estrellas Jr. FSC, graced the event and shared an inspirational message. He reiterated the celebrant’s point during the celebration of the Holy Mass prior to the events, that is to foster friendship and bond over the various fun games.

After two days of good-natured matches, the following were the overall winners: first place, DLSU; second place, DLSL; and third place DLS-CSB. The event concluded with the turnover for the next year’s host, De La Salle University.
