Family Comes FirstFamily is what fi rst comes to
mind in a world of uncertain
security, proven once again in
Paris. At such times we huddle
for protection, and to provide
the safety net defi ned by family.
During this holiday period we are
reminded of the importance of
friends and family.
While REM is a global company, it is also a family
business, which our family has owned since 1971. The
connections we are privileged to enjoy around the
world are our extended family. So, it is with particular
concern we reach out to our French brethren to let
them know of our concerns and of our support.
I remember attending the Silmo exposition in Paris just
one month after the attack on our homeland on 9/11.
The brotherhood shown was clear, remarkable and
heartwarming. Everyone was an American, just as we
have all been French in recent weeks. It hit me how
interconnected we all are to one another. Whether
“red, white, and blue,” or “bleu, blanc, et rouge,” we
are one.

REM CaresCoastal Clean-up Day On September 19th, REM employees and friends/families of, gathered at the Santa Monica pier to participate in the 30th anniversary of International Coastal Cleanup. Started by Ocean Conservancy, the International Coastal Cleanup is a part of the organization’s larger goal of bringing people together to find solutions for our planet through education and empowerment to defend not only the ocean and its wildlife, but also the millions who earn their living from the ocean. An invaluable opportunity for team building, the event also allowed everyone to participate in preserving the environment.
World Sight Foundation Bake Sale REM employees held a Halloween-themed bake sale on October 30th in which employees brought baked goods to sell in the office. The event raised $327 for the World Sight Foundation – the largest annual global fundraising campaign led by the Optometry Giving Sight to address avoidable blindness caused by uncorrected refractive error. REM is a long-time supporter of the World Sight Day Challenge, contributing to the impactful cause for more than five years.
In October, REM Eyewear helped its founder, Gerry Hundert, celebrate his milestone birthday of 90! Gerry, who purchased REM Eyewear in 1971, is a driving force behind the company’s family culture, customer-focus and success. Still an active member of REM, Gerry can be seen in the office every day!
To celebrate, REM held a catered birthday lunch at REM’s headquarters in Sun Valley, CA and, Gerry also hosted a birthday dinner/party at Spago in Beverly Hills, CA with 150+ of his closest friends and family.

Travel Abroad – Jonathan Adler’s Notting Hill, London store
Is a trip to London on your travel in the near future? If it is, you won’t want to miss visiting the recently opened Jonathan Adler store in the trendy Notting Hill, West London neighborhood. Creating a real buzz for locals and tourists, the Portobello Road store has the same fabulous style and fl air for fun, colorful designs we’ve all come to love. Dubbed by fans as a ‘Jonathan Adler museum,’ the 3,000 square-foot high traffi c boutique feels luxurious but lighthearted in its approach and lends way to the brand’s rapid growth and increasing recognition.
It is all a reminder of the importance
of living our values. As a family
business, we remain focused on
fi nding solutions to challenges
that lead people to have superior
experiences. Family businesses
tend to nurture and show empathy,
face realities and constantly seek to
help people share in the quest for
happiness.
At Vision Expo West, I was struck by
the many customers who stopped
by just to talk and catch up on family
events (some even bought frames).
It was my father’s 90th birthday and
many wanted to share their Gerry
Hundert stories. Our extended
customer-family, composed of many
people we have known for decades,
is a source of our strength and the
foundation of our happiness.
Given recent events, this holiday
season makes it a particularly
appropriate time for refl ection,
embracing the people around us a
little bit tighter and for giving thanks
for all that we have. So, to all of you,
thank you for your support over all
these years. We wish you and your
families good health, security, and
abundant success in your pursuit of
happiness.
Warmly,
Mike Hundert, Donna Gindy, Gerry
Hundert and Kevin Hundert

Welcome to Nico’s Corner! I’m Nicolas Roseillier, Creative Director at REM Eyewear and in each quarterly issue of Dimensions I’ll be sharing insight on the latest design trends your customers are seeking.
As we move into the New Year, producing lighter frames has become an increasing priority for REM and other eyewear manufacturers. Consumers not only love lighter frames because of the easy fit and comfortability, but lighter frames are also more visually appealing and tend to add more flair and character. Although there are many ways to minimize the weight and bulk of a traditional frame, one way REM is taking on this trend is by adopting more beveling, which you’ll see in a few of our 2016 Tumi and Jonathan Adler releases.
Beveling on the frame front allows light to reflect in specified points, making it appear to have more dimension and a seemingly lighter profile. So the next time your customer requests a lighter frame you can show them options that are beveled, which will give them a subtle appearance of a lightweight frame they’ll love.

that have made great strides in raising awareness of the accessories industry. The purpose of the awards gala is to celebrate those who have had a positive impact on accessory consumption during the prior year. Past recipients of the “Designer of the Year” award include Phillip Lim, Alber Elbaz for Lanvin, Tomas Maier for Bottega Veneta and Marc Jacobs.
Our partner, John Varvatos, was recently presented with an ACE (Accessories Council Excellence) Award for “Designer of the Year” given by the Accessories Council. The award is particularly unique as it marks the first time a men’s wear brand has received the award. Since eyewear is included under accessories, this is an amazing honor to REM.
The Accessories Council Excellence Awards were created in 1997 to pay homage to those individuals and groups

“For starters, our sales rep Kim Brown is great to work with. The whole Dakota Eye Institute staff loves when she comes into the offi ce – she’s so fun! And, our patients loved working with her for a recent trunk show we held. Also, when we did our trunk show, we had a great experience working with REM as far as getting signage and other marketing materials for the event. They went above and beyond for us and we can’t say thank you enough.” – Lawrelle Johnson, Optical Manager at Dakota Eye Institute
