Happy Spring to everyone! It is the season of new things, and with that in mind, we completed our first Special Interest Group (SIG) meeting where 20 energy industry–focused members traded expertise and experiences on starting to transition to the Lease Standard.

Thanks to Siegfried Group and Lisa Pitts who hosted the event and another big thank you to Chad Soares, Phil Harrison and Sammy Miller of PwC who were our SMEs. Our first Technology SIG will be held on Friday, May 12, 7:30 - 9:30. The meeting topic is planned around a discussion of block chain.

The speaker for our April 11th dinner meeting is Bob Harvey, President and CEO of the Greater Houston Partnership. The Partnership focuses on attracting investment and trade to Houston, advocating for sound public policy and convening a diverse set of Houstonians when major issues arise. Our format will be “A Conversation with Bob Harvey”, so we expect an interesting engagement.

Our Platinum sponsor, BDO USA, LLP, will conduct the professional development session on “Leading Transformation in a Middle Market Company”. Eskander Yavar, National Leader Management Advisory Services will cover aspects of a consistent, transparent and relevant corporate strategy, the technology, governance and process pillars required to align the plan to action and the necessity of challenging the status quo in terms of driving change within organizations.

Developing Leader Character - Establish Skills Needed to be an Effective leader With This 2-Day WorkshopApril 3-4, 2017: This workshop focuses on the element of leadership that has largely been neglected in leadership development: Character. Although character is often thought to be a subjective construct, this workshop argues otherwise. We will discuss the concrete behaviors associated with different eleven character dimensions (accountability, drive, collaboration, courage, justice, temperance, humility, humanity, integrity, transcendence, and judgement), and illustrate how these behaviors can be developed, how character can be strengthened, and how it leads to improved decision making and judgement.
