Julian Mittermaier is an adrenaline junkie. He still holds some of the world records on highlining. In 2010, one of his friends bought a slackline; a rope suspended between two points such as trees. They tried it together. Since then, Julian has been doing slacklining and highlining. He attended many festivals held in Czech Republic, Switzerland and Germany and showed his highlining and slacklining skills to the people there. Here is a summary of an interview with him.

Julian thinks that highlining is safe because he knows all the risks and takes all the necessary precautions. He said one should pay attention to these before

starting. He also said that if you want to cross the other side safely, you should focus on the line but nothing else. So, he thinks it’s all about concentration and taking necessary measures.

Julian said that he tried to keep in shape both physically and mentally. He also added that as he learned to stay calm, he was able to do more and more on the line. “Just before slacklining or highlining, I do some stretching and warming up. You have to get into what you’re doing, but that happens pretty automatically once you’re on the line.” said Julian at the end of the interview.

Florian Sitzmann is a German wheelchair athlete and author. He is well known for his success as a handcyclist at the Paralympics as well as in other international competitions. And, this is an interview extract with him.

He told us about the terrible accident he had on a motorbike in 1992. He said he had lost his two legs. But, he didn’t lose hope and kept going. He worked for an art project, worked in a nightclub, and worked as a press spokesperson. Also, he wrote books about his life. But, in the end he became a handcyclist. He won a few medals and became the German champion and second in the world. He also set distance records which was 540 kilometres long on a hand bike.

“If you don’t have goals, then you can just stop whatever you’re doing. If you don’t start the day with some goal that you want to get done before you fall into bed, it’s going to be difficult.” said Florian Sitzmann determinedly.

He also adds that goals are very important, otherwise you don’t move forward. You need short-term, medium-term and long-term goals because goals are really at the heart of being alive.
