FERTILITYFertility is the single most important quality considered in the selection of the SA Braford. The intercalf periods of our top Breedplan cow herds are 368 and 375 respectively, and the society as a whole is aiming to achieve average ICP of 400.Braford bulls have exceptional libido and strict selection is done on scrotal circumference.
ADAPTABILITYThe winning combination of top Hereford and Brahman genes enables the Braford to adapt, reproduce and thrive in a variety of very different environments from extreme heat to extreme cold, wet and dry environments and Brafords cope extremely well with South African diseases.Current Braford studs operate successfully in Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalange, Kwa-Zulu Natal, Free State, Northern Cape and Eastern Cape. There are also Braford breeders in Namibia and a commercial Braford stud was recently established in Mauritius.
SA Brafords are medium frame beef cattle that have the potential to utilize even low quality grass to produce on average weaner calves of 45-50% of cow weight. Average birth weights are between 30-36kg and weaning weights should be in the range of 170- 270kg.
The SA Braford consistently performs exceptionally well at the Vrede Veldbulklub. Over a period of 9 years the Braford groups have realised Average Daily Gains on veldgrass of 752 grams for the duration of the test (winter & summer) and has been the breed with the highest selection percentage of all breeds.
In intensive feeding environments such as feedlots Brafords can average as much as 2kg weight gain per day.

The South African Braford Cattle Breeders Society is proud of the following achievements during 2010:
Ÿ More than 120 Braford Bulls were sold for prices ranging from R12 000 – R65 000
Ÿ A Braford steer was the overall carcass champion at the Royal Show
Ÿ Braford bulls achieved the highest average price of all breeds at the prestigious Ermelo Bull auction
Ÿ A Braford bull was awarded the Champion bull at the Vryheid auction and realised the highest price of all breeds at the auction

Die GR 11 Leerders aan Weston word onderrig in Voerkraalbestuur en neem jaarliks aan die Royal Show by Pietermaritsburg deel, waarvoor hulle self die diere moet voorberei asook voervloei programme, voeromset verhoudings en koste effektiwiteit bepaal.
In 2010 het leerders aan Weston College die uitstekende prestasie behaal van 'n algehele eerste plek in die SAMIC karkas kompetisie by die Royal Show met 'n 98,11% telling vir die karkas van 'n Braford-tipe dier. Die wen karkas het Gemiddelde Daaglikse Toename van 1,88kg in die voerkraal behaal met 'n uitstekende voeromset verhouding van 1:5,79.
Die Braford Beestelersgenootskap was so beiindruk met die Braford-tipe os se prestasie asook die Weston seuns se harde werk en deursettings vermoë, dat 'n groep Natal Braford
Klublede saamgespan het om 'n aantal speenkallers aan Weston College te skenk vir gebruik in die Voerkraal bestuurprogram asook vir die hoef en karkas kompetisies.
Die Braford genootskap is bevoorreg om te kan deel wees van die opvoedingsproses en opgewonde om te kan belê in die toekomstige bees boere van Suid Afrika!
Ons wens die GR11 Weston leerders van 2011 alle voorspoed toe en weet die Brafords en Westons gaan vorentoe weer saam wen!
