From Father Jim2017 Annual Catholic Appeal – “Their

Eyes Were Opened and They Recognized Him”

St. Luke, in today’s Gospel, says that it was only when Jesus opened their eyes and minds through explanation of the scriptures and the breaking of the bread that the disciples on the road to Emmaus came to recognize Him.

As people of faith, we are like the disciples, living our lives in the world, walking along with Jesus who is always there accompanying us, whether we recognize Him or not.

Jesus teaches us that at the end of our lives, He will call us to be with Him for all eternity. He will do so because of His great love for us and because of our response to what He has asked: feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked and attend to the needs of others not only in our parish and diocese but throughout the world.

The Annual Catholic Appeal, with its theme, “Their Eyes Were Opened and They Recognized Him” invites each of us to open our eyes and recognize Him in those who seek our help. The Appeal offers each of us an opportunity to unite as a Catholic community and to reach out to serve others – the hungry, the homeless, the unemployed, the distressed, the unchurched, our children, and the elderly.

This weekend you are invited to participate in the 2017 Annual Catholic Appeal. Please respond by pledging a sacrificial gift to this year’s campaign. To learn more about the Annual Catholic Appeal, visit www.cdow.org; click “Giving” then “Annual Catholic Appeal”.

The community selected seven men, one of whom was Stephen. He tells them, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through me.” When Philip asks to show them the Father, Jesus answers, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.”

Faith FormationImmaculate Conception School News

ALLELUIA! It is wonderful to be able to continue to celebrate the joy of Easter with the students and staff. We are also celebrating Mary in a special way this month. Our May Crowning last week was a beautiful tribute to the

Blessed Mother.

ICS has another reason to celebrate. We have been selected to become a Healey School! The Healey Education Foundation provides assistance to Catholic Schools as they build for the future. Through this three-year program, we will have support from the Healey staff with recommendations on how to grow our school. As we move through the process, you will notice some wonderful additions like a full-time advancement director and the formation of a school board. We encourage everyone to consider becoming involved in the process to whatever extent you are able. We are all partners in the mission to educate the faith of our future.

Thank you to all of our families for the special treats during Teacher Appreciation Week. All of the teachers and staff felt the love and gratitude for their hard work.

We have some special events this week. Our primary students will go on a field trip on Monday. Wednesday is our 8th annual Race for Education. All of the students, staff, and parent volunteers will celebrate by running, walking, and dancing around the parking lot! We will also have a special lunch from Chick-fil-A. Thursday is our kindergarten’s Special Persons’ Lunch and our final PSO meeting of the year. Friday, our students will enjoy an assembly featuring the Navy Band.

Applications are being accepted for next school year. If you missed our open house, don’t worry. Individual tours are available upon request by contacting the office at 410-398-2636, and we will have another open house later in the spring. Now is the time to consider the benefits of a strong faith-based, challenging academic program that Immaculate Conception provides.
