A Message from our Pastor For my quiet time, I have been studying through Ezra; a book I do not study often and therefore am learning many new things. I was struck by Ezra 7:10 while reading this morning. To put the verse in context, Ezra has been sent to Jerusalem from Babylon by King Artaxerxes. Listen to verse 10, For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel. A few things leapt out at me and caused me to pause while reading. First, I noticed Ezra s desire to study God s word. He was not dependent on others but wanted to personally know the truth of God s word. Is that true in my heart, or has that desire waned? Second, and what really jumped out at me, was the next phrase where he says, and to do it. One translation says practice it. Isn t that really the goal? I want more than to have knowledge of the Bible. I want to live out the truth s of the Bible. I loved how it was explained by our Discipleship Pastor Candidate last Sunday during his testimony. Our goal does not stop at knowing truth but living that truth out. Finally, Ezra s desire is more than for personal gain, but he wants to teach others too. He wants those around him to pursue God the way he does and wants them to live out that truth. Would you spend a few moments examining your heart to see if these three items are true of you? ― A Message from our Pastor ―

For my quiet time, I have been studying through Ezra; a book I do not study often and therefore am learning many new things.

I was struck by Ezra 7:10 while reading this morning. To put the verse in context, Ezra has been sent to Jerusalem from Babylon by King Artaxerxes.

Listen to verse 10, “For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel.”

A few things leapt out at me and caused me to pause while reading. First, I noticed Ezra’s desire to study God’s word. He was not dependent on others but wanted to personally know the truth of God’s word. Is that true in my heart, or has that desire waned?

Second, and what really jumped out at me, was the next phrase where he says, “and to do it.” One translation says “practice it.” Isn’t that really the goal?

I want more than to have knowledge of the Bible. I want to live out the truth’s of the Bible. I loved how it was explained by our Discipleship Pastor Candidate last Sunday during his testimony. Our goal does not stop at knowing truth but living that truth out.

Finally, Ezra’s desire is more than for personal gain, but he wants to teach others too. He wants those around him to pursue God the way he does and wants them to live out that truth.

Would you spend a few moments examining your heart to see if these three items are true of you?
