Classic Glass Corvette Club
1
To my fellow Classic Glass Club members and those we hope will join, let me say welcome to all as we start our second month in 2020.
We have kicked off the planning for several club events to include: Valentines Weekend Cruise, trip to Gatlinburg, Michelin Bash, McKenna Farms Derby Day, Cherohala Skyway-Tellico Plains, NCM Weekend, NCM 26th Anniversary Celebration, CGCC Picnic, Petit LeMans at Road Atlanta,
VetteStock, our CGCC Holiday Party and SuperVette Saturday. Please check the info link on the Events Calendar.
Our 2020 Officers, Board Members and Appointees have already melded and are working as one team to accomplish our planned goals and objectives for this year. For SuperVette Saturday and VetteStock, we’ll be releasing flyers shortly and implementing signup forms on our club website. We have already confirmed 2 major sponsors for SuperVette, and are in the process of contacting fellow corvette clubs in the Southeast, additional sponsors, and vendors to donate to our premier charity event of the year. The National Corvette Museum has committed to set up shop at both SuperVette and VetteStock.
We have added new member luncheon cruises to our program - the first one was held on Sunday, January 26th, to Rocco’s Pub in Jasper. We are adding a monthly Sunday Corvette Brunch at Governor’s Gun Club in Kennesaw – the first one was held on Sunday, January 19th. You will also see monthly Corvettes and Coffee Events on the calendar. These are informal club events open to all members – what a great way to meet and get to know your fellow club members.
We are in the process of signing up guest speakers for each of our monthly club meetings – Merrill Baker from McKenna Farms spoke at our January meeting.
A reminder for all of us - Classic Glass Corvette Club gives us the opportunity to learn and have fun with our Corvettes. The more you participate the better it gets!
Please mark your calendar to attend our second club meeting of 2020 at 7:00 PM on February 11th at Cherokee Cattle Company Restaurant. Respectfully,
Don Don Bailey President, Classic Glass Corvette Club

Corvette: 2019 Black Coupe Corvette: 2012 Velocity Yellow Coupe
Also Stéphane Boyeau, Diana Ivanchenko, Lee & Suzanne Wix and Christian & Michele Zaccone; hopefully, we’ll have photos for the next issue!
SICK BAY Chris Reed, Sunshine Ambassador
Ed Gollob has had his bone marrow transplant and is ready for the healing to begin. It is necessary for him to visit the hospital on a daily basis. Since all of his immunity is gone, he will have to have many inoculations in order for him to be around the general public without getting ill easily. He and Lynne have been battling well. It makes it easier to understand all the trials Fred and Pat Enloe have undergone in the past couple of years.
Sheila Lawrence Catapano is improving from her stroke and broken ankle.
Ours cheers for recovery to them both.
Thank you,
Chris

General Membership Meeting Minutes
January 14, 2020
President Don Bailey called the General Membership Meeting (GMM) to order at 7:30pm. Don introduced the new Board of Directors and appointees. (Note: the GMM program slides are located on the members only section of the club website at http://www.cgcorvetteclub.com/programs.htm).
Bob Zajicek introduced new members and guests: - Guests: Jim and Charlotte Herndon (C6 2009 Velocity Yellow Coupe) - New members:
o Steve and Amy Cassaniti (C7 2019 Black Coupe) o Brian and Sally Olson (C6 2012 Velocity Yellow GS Coupe)
Tom Jarrett introduced the scheduled speaker, Merrill Baker, of McKenna Farms. Merrill reviewed the vision and operation of McKenna Farms, which is to provide therapy to special needs children and veterans suffering from combat related issues such as PTSD. She thanked CGCC for the support, both monetary and workdays, received from the club over the past year. A capital campaign is underway to raise $3M to erect a new building to include a pool for use in therapy sessions. A video, “Hope in Motion,” is available on their website, www.McKennafarms.org. The plan is to reach the campaign goal in two years.
Don also asked if there were any interesting trips the members would like to discuss. There were none, but Don requested that they keep this in mind as he would like to ask this at each GMM.
Don provided an update to the club store reorganization. The main points of the reorganization are: - Purchase items online only through the new store online catalog (under construction) - Eliminate inventory except for a few samples - Allow application of club logo to a more varied list of items - Payment via PayPal, check or money order - Better automatic tracking of orders - Revised store manager responsibilities - E-blast to membership when the online store is ready to use
The details of the store reorganization plan are contained in the meeting program at http://www.cgcorvetteclub.com/pdfs/2020/Jan%202020%20General%20Meeting.pdf
Secretary Ron Deering asked if there were any corrections to both the November or December minutes published in the December and January VetteSette newsletters. There were none. Ken Cearns made the motion to approve; seconded by Frank Macaluso. Motion passed.
Treasurer Steve Boaz discussed the December financial report. The report is posted on the Club’s members only section of our website. The motion to approve the financial report was made by Tom Jarrett and seconded by Meredith Lewis. Motion passed.
VP of Activities, Scott Marshall: Scott reviewed key events planned and said he is still working on the calendar. - Ken Cearns reviewed the upcoming February Valentine weekend cruise. Details are available on the event
calendar information sheet at http://www.cgcorvetteclub.com/2020_Events/valentines.pdf - Roger Espinosa, SVS Manager, reviewed plans for the May SuperVette Saturday fundraiser. - Aileen Marshall reviewed current planning for the December holiday party. Currently looking at Governor’s
Gun club for the venue. Other options still under consideration
Jerry Fountain, Parade Liaison: Jerry said that we will continue parade support of local activities in the spring.
VP of Membership, Bob Zajicek: announced we have 204 members. Bob stated that he wanted to focus his time more on greeting new members and guests rather than staying stationary at the entrance table. Lydia has graciously volunteered to take on the reception duties at the entrance. He is planning some introductory functions such “new member cruises.” Bob also asked members to take some club business card to use in promoting the club with acquaintances.

The membership drawing of $68 was won by new member Amy Cassaniti.
VP at Large, David Klingensmith: David stated that the next Corvettes & Coffee event will be Saturday, February 8 at the Daily Grind, 3960 Mary Eliza Trace, Marietta The pot for the 50/25/25 drawing pot was $208, with $104 to the club and $52 each to two people: Carol Boaz and Jerry Goodman were the winners.
There were several members with new Corvettes:
- John Iroff (C7 2017 Torch Red) - Tom Jarrett (C7 2019 Black) - Bob Zajicek (C7 2017 Z06 Long Beach Red) - Steve and Amy Cassaniti (C7 2019 Black Coupe) - Bill and Linda Smith (C7 Elkhart Lake Blue)
NCM Ambassador, Carolyn Deering: Carolyn covered the major upcoming event at the NCM as well as some future museum related club events. She also mentioned that the banner we supply to the NCM with a donation was designed and sent to the museum by Calvin Cruce. She also mentioned the upcoming work weekend in June and encouraged anyone interested to attend.
Alan Zeppenfeld, Newsletter Editor: thanked everyone who sent articles for publication and asked all to keep sending articles and pictures.
Board of Directors: - Bob Catapano - not present - Chaz Cone – nothing
- Calvin Cruce – new member photos will be taken after the meeting
- Doug Reed (Past President) – not present
Sunshine Ambassador, Chris Reed: Chris was not in attendance. Don offered that Ed Gollob’s sister is in town and is a perfect match for the bone marrow transplant he needs. And Fred Enloe is recovering at home from his fall and broken shoulder.
Jim Johannes, Store Manager: Nothing to add.
Chaz Cone Webmaster: Nothing further
New Business:
- Don proposed changing the GMM starting time to 7pm versus 7:30pm. An informal vote was taken and there was general receptiveness to doing that. The Webmaster will e-blast that proposal to the membership for a poll.
- Proposed bylaw changes. Specific wording of the below changes will be e-blasted to the membership and a vote taken at the February GMM: 1) Change the method of selection of NCM Ambassador to appointed versus elected 2) Remove the two-year term limits for elected positions 3) Modify the current rules on payments made by the Treasurer requiring club review/approval
The next BOD meeting will be Tuesday, February 4th at 7pm at the Cherokee Cattle Company (location different than last month). All members are welcome to attend. The next General meeting will be at Cherokee Cattle Company Tuesday, February 11 at 7:30pm.
The meeting adjourned at 9pm.
Respectfully Submitted: Ron Deering Secretary, CGCC, 2020

January New Member Welcome Cruise Bob Zajicek, VP of Membership
We had our first New Member Welcome Cruise Sunday, January 26th. New members Stéphane Boyeau, Paul Fay, Brian Olson, Lee and Suzanne Wix, and Christian Zaccone participated. Not so new members, Bob and Nancy Alexander, Bob and Jean Klinger, Scott and Aileen Marshall (Activities Veep and Queen), Don and Joanne Bailey, (President and First Lady), and myself and Lydia Barta (Membership Veep and Queen) joined the caravan and lunch to welcome our new members.
We met at the BP station at Wade Green and I-75 and left at 11:00 AM. We had a leisurely drive up I-75. We departed I-75 at Exit 293 for Highway 411 and headed northeast. We passed through metropolitan White, slowing to 35mph for several agonizing blocks, and then picked up the pace once again upon reaching the outskirts of the city 15 seconds later.
We took a right turn onto Highway 140 and were off to Waleska. 140 has nice sweeping turns and several tight ones as well. It is a fun road to drive in a Corvette and in our Dash-Last Silverado (poor Don). Our luck held out and we didn’t have our progress stifled by any box vans, horse trailers, land whales, lookee loos, etc. all the way to Waleska.
Reinhardt University is in Waleska and we made a left turn there onto Highway 108, passing the historic campus on the left. I-575 was our final turn point and we made a left on to it and arrived at our destination, Rocco’s Pub, in short order.
Rocco’s Pub is a local favorite located on I-575 just south of Jasper. It is popular with the Club as a good place to chow down when on a trip through the area. We were seated in the party room and were able to watch the last couple hours of the IMSA Rolex 24 Race in Daytona.
Lydia suggested everyone tell a little bit about themselves and Stéphane was first up. - Stéphane emigrated from France about four years ago and really enjoys his 2019 C7 Z06. - Lee was next. He is a native of GA and told of the previous Corvettes he has owned and
introduced his wife Suzanne. - Then it was Brian’s turn. Brian was a member of Classic Glass in a previous life and a former Navy
P-3 pilot before flying commercially. - Christian was next and told us he recently relocated from Everett MA (he talks Boston speak -
haha.) He is looking at a C7 in TN and may have a new ride to announce at the February meeting. - Last, but not least, Paul told how much he was enjoying retirement, his C6 and partaking in Club
activities since joining last October. The old timers chimed in about themselves. It was interesting and fun learning about each other, sharing common experiences and enjoying a good time with our new friends. Rocco’s food disappeared quickly and two hours flew by before we knew it.

Update on The Bash:
Everyone is on their own to pre-register and make their reservations for special events. We would really like to
have everyone from Classic Glass Corvette Club (CGCC) sit together for the Banquets (pre-registration
required), so we have reserved tables for both. There is an extra charge to reserve the tables and Carolyn will
collect those funds the night of the banquets from each person attending. That cost will be $5 each.
The Corvette Racing Banquet is on Thursday, April 23 at 5:45 pm – 8:00 pm at the NCM. We will have
dinner with the Corvette Racing Program Manager, Doug Fehan, along with some very special VIP guests
followed by a presentation and open questions to Doug and guests.
The Bash Banquet is on Saturday, April 25 at 5:45 pm – 9:00 pm at the NCM. Dinner provided by the Linen
Apron and Entertainment provided by Tyrone Dunn & the Kinfolk.
1. If you have not made your hotel reservation, please do so as soon as possible. Classic Glass Corvette
Club has a block of rooms set aside for the Bash. See the info sheet on the CGCC website for
details.
2. Make your reservations with NCM for registration and events.
3. Sign up on the CGCC Website – Events Calendar. We need to know who is attending.
There will be an organized ride to the NCM on Wednesday, April 22 and a dinner on Friday, April 24 at one of
the Bowling Green restaurants for anyone wishing to attend. Details will be announced in March.
NCM membership:
If you are not a member of the NCM and would like more information, Carolyn will have brochures at the
February meeting.

TECH CORNER
C6 Corvette Paddle Shifter Modification By Roger Espinosa and Ron Deering
Have you ever noticed the strange configuration GM designed into the C6 automatic (A6) transmission paddle shifters? Those with other vehicles with paddle shifters who also own a C6 have probably noticed the difference in the way GM designed them. Rather than having the left paddle designated for downshifting and right paddle for upshifting as is done in most vehicles, the C6 paddles perform both up and down shifting whether the right or left paddle is used, depending on whether the top or the bottom of the paddle is squeezed. This is difficult to get used to and when track driving requiring quick shifts, it is frequent to command downshifts when an upshift was desired, as well as the reverse. Fortunately, our Corvette computers prevent us from making shifts that are dangerous to our transmissions or engines. But this arrangement also tends to make those of us who are infrequent paddle shifters less likely to ever use this valuable (and fun) tool in driving our C6 Corvettes. GM redesigned the paddles on the C7 Corvette to work like other cars with downshift on the left and upshift on the right, a much easier and more intuitive configuration.
If you have a C6 with the A6 transmission and would like to reconfigure the paddles to be more “useful,” member Roger Espinosa has done the research for you. More than just the research, he has made the modification on his 2011 Grand Sport Coupe. The attached link shows the detailed modification process with photos, as well as where to purchase the required parts. Thanks to Roger for providing the background and details for this interesting and useful modification.
