Prayer for National Sorry Day

Holy Father, God of Love,

You are the Creator of this land and of all good

things.

We acknowledge the pain and shame of our history

and the suffering of our peoples,

and we ask your forgiveness.

We thank you for the survival of indigenous cultures.

Our hope is in you because you gave your Son Jesus

to reconcile the world to you.

We pray for your strength and grace to forgive,

accept and love one another,

as you love us and forgive and accept us

in the sacrifice of your Son.

Give us the courage to accept the realities of our

History, so that we may build a better future for our

nation.

Teach us to respect all cultures.

Teach us to care for our land and waters.

Help us to share justly the resources of this land.

Help us to bring about spiritual and social change

to improve the quality of life for all groups in our

communities, especially the disadvantaged.

Help young people to find true dignity and self esteem

by your Spirit.

May your power and love be the foundations

on which we build our families, our communities and

our nation,

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

(Hat tip: Sandy Grant). This prayer was prepared by Wontulp-Bi-Buya

Indigenous Theology Working Group in 1997. Wontulp-Bi-Buya is the

Queensland partner of Nungalinya College, Darwin, and provides

indigenous leadership training for church and community.

Like the Green Tree Frog, I grow and change.

Like the Bush Bee,

I can work with others and on my own to be successful.

Like the Eagle, I see what I

need to do to achieve my

goal and take responsibility.

Like the Crocodile,

I can overcome challenges and keep

going when things get

tough.

Like the Dolphin, I am free to

develop my own ideas and take

risks.

Like the Green Ant, I use what I know and

what others know to

build meaning.

Like the Tata Lizard I can become a learning detective, searching

for answers or clues to my own or

others questions.

Sorry Day Assembly

This Friday at morning assembly, Room 7 will be presenting an item for National Sorry Day. We welcome you

to join us for this significant event. Also next week, our Indigenous Education Worker, Mr Luke Mayo, will be

speaking to our classes about National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week.

Pentecost and Blessing of the Deck

The following Friday, 2nd June, we will celebrate Pentecost with a prayer liturgy in the assembly area at

10.00am. Part of the ceremony will be to bless our new deck which we hope, will also include a smoking

ceremony by a Larrakeyah man. At 6.00pm on the same day, we will also have a ‘wine and cheese’ evening

where we invite parents to join us in a less formal affair so you can view and have a conversation about the

work. If you are keen to join us for this, please let Shannon know in the front office for catering purposes.

Freeform Landscaping

Chris Turnbull from Freeform Landscaping is also offering a competition for both students and parents and

has offered some prizes to celebrate the completion of the works.

Student Competition: is to guess the number of screws used in the making of the deck. We can confirm it is

between 3 800 and 4 200. Closest wins the main prize with two runner up prizes.

Prizes: 1st price is a family pass to King Pin. 2 runner up prizes are 2x 2 x 1hr sessions at Flip Out.

Adult Competition: is to guess the lineal metres of timber used in the deck.

Prizes: $200.00 Bunnings vouchers. Runner up prizes 2 x $50 Bunnings vouchers.

Shannon will set up the competition and run from the front office. Please see her with your guesses!

Effective Lifelong Inventory (ELLI) profiles

On Monday evening, we held a parent evening for parents to complete their own Elli profiles and have

discussion around what this might mean. The session went well and feedback was to hold another event and

encourage more parents to join us as they felt it was extremely valuable in understanding the Learning

Powers and working with their own children on this. We will consider this and see what we can bring together

for Semester 2.

Athletics Gala Evening

A reminder that our Athletics Gala Evening will be Thursday evening, 8th of June. We ask that you be here at

5.00pm for a 5.15pm start. Rainbows and After School Care will close at 5.00pm on this day. The other

athletic events will not be held on the evening, however, will be held during the week during school time.

Andree Angel, our PE Coordinator, will provide a timetable of events next week in case you are able to come

and watch some of that.

God Bless,

Shane Donohue
