A Message from Your HOA

Bob Heslop, Vice President

SLCCV HOA

H.O.A. activities director Debbie Foote also has

some great plans and can't wait for restrictions to

lift.

We have need of new blood on the board and ask

anyone who feels like they want to contribute to

contact a board member. We will have a board

meeting in December and would love to have any-

one who thinks they might like to serve, join us,

and investigate possibilities. Right now the Mem-

bership Director and the Communication Director

positions are available, but half of the board posi-

tions time out this year and will be up for election.

With Christmas upon us, your board of directors

joins me in sending best wishes for a very Merry

Christmas and a Healthy and Happy New Year. I

am looking forward to 2021 with great hope and

anticipation.

I hope everyone gives commensurate considera-

tion to getting a Covid vaccine when it is availa-ble. It is clear it will not be something everyone can do, but it's like wearing the mask, it's an op-

portunity to do something for others as well as ourselves.

Spanish Lakes Country Club Village residents

and H.O.A. members,

With a little luck we may finally get past the year

2020. Not a year I want to remember, but a year

none of us will be able to forget.

Programs we initiated in the spring to help relieve

Covid stress on our residents and members were

very successful but have tailed off over the sum-

mer. Having lost our ability to have membership

meetings, social functions, meetings with man-

agement, plus being unable to publish and distrib-

ute this communication your HOA board has not

been able to serve you in the ways we wish we

could. We hope that this December publication of

the Village Voice is a sign that we are turning the

corner and that we can make a steady transition to

again providing the service you are accustomed to

and should expect to receive from your Home

Owners Association.

We hope everyone had an enjoyable Thanksgiv-ing, despite the Clubhouse facilities still being

operated under severe restrictions and not being able to offer services as in past years. We are thankful to have a new Recreation Director Di-

anne Fidler. Dianne hit the ground running and has been instrumental in getting an “Arts and Crafts Sale” and an “Outdoor Concert” approved.

She has worked tirelessly with residents to help them succeed. Dianne has plans for many other interesting activities and of course they are all contingent on getting things opened up. Welcome

Dianne!

FROM THE EDITOR

It’s been a while since we put out a Village

Voice, since April to be precise. There are many

new residents here who have joined us in the last

ten months. Lots of new faces!

So as an FYI this is the HOA publication that

comes out five times a year, bimonthly from Oc-

tober to June. There’s usually lots or information

about upcoming events, committee reports, and

activities.

Speaking of activities we have the Fitness Games

in the park during the winter. Not sure what their

fate will be this year. There are lots of categories

in which to participate. Mahjong was added last

year. Info will certainly be published in the week-

ly bulletin available at the Rec Desk or online.

If you are looking for information or have some-

thing to give away or sell, the HOA SLCCV Fa-

cebook page is a great place to start. There is a

new start-up, the SLCCV-BMC Facebook page

with lot of info like when someone sees the gar-

bage truck come in two days earlier than ex-

pected! The BMC stands for Bob McNulty who

is the administrator for both pages. You do need

to request permission to join these pages as they

are restricted to residents.

Reminder to all residents: when you renew your

mobile home registration, you must send in both

parts as each is for only one side of your double-

wide home. Registration is for the calendar year

so it doesn't matter when you bought your home.

Please remember to call the Service Office if you

have any issues with parking, noise, pets, etc.

These are not issues which our C.O.P. volunteers

handle.

This issue is shorter than the usual twelve pages

because there’s not as much to share. Some of

our advertisers have dropped by the wayside over

the summer. We’re looking forward to more

news in the future.

As many of you know, the Video Library has been TEMPORARILY CLOSED DOWN since October 26th. We have been renting out videos as customers call in to either one of us and we also work together to still be able to supply you with videos upon your request.

We were planning on reopening on Dec. 7th, but since this has been working out and it’s the Holiday Season, we have decided to reopen after the Holidays on Monday, January 4th.

If Monica or Gerrie are at the Longevity Center at classes, etc., and you are interested in a video, we would be glad to have you browse or ask for recom-mendations. You can call us also and we will be hap-py to rent out.

All videos are on the SLCCV.org. website. Stay Safe and Be Well!

HOLIDAY REMINDERS GOLF CART PARADES

2020

Who would have guessed that one of the best things

all year would be the golf cart parades! So many

people were involved that it’s hard to list them all,

but Ted Bruey seems to be the instigator extraordi-

naire! The folks driving the carts sure looked like

they were having lots of

fun, and the residents sit-

ting in lawn chairs cheered

them on as they passed by.

Among the memorable

themes were Memorial Day,

Halloween and Thanksgiv-

ing, carts decorated, drivers

and passengers in costume.

Of course, there were Saturdays when the parades

were rained out or halted by a downpour like the

Halloween parade. And the start times got earlier as

the daylight hours grew shorter, especially with the

return of standard time.

The most amazing parade was “Back the Blue”!

Miss Ellie with her connections in

the Sheriff’s Department was able

to get Sheriff Mascara and several

deputies to drive at the end of the

long line of golf carts. They chose

the three best decorated carts for

small prizes, but they all had a

blast!

On the next page you will find

information about the Sheriff

Department’s sponsored toy

drive for the children of St.

Lucie County. Inexpensive

items can be found at all the

dollar stores. Please do not

wrap anything. If you miss the

parade, toys can be left at the

clubhouse.

Most of our seasonal residents have returned from

colder climes. If you have not canceled house

checks, please call Ellie, 860-280-8461. By the

same token, if you are going away for an extended

period for the holidays, you can call to request a

house check.

Many people don’t realize that leaving large boxes

out for the trash or recycling advertises the high

ticket items that you got for Christmas. In the inter-

est of your safety please break down the cardboard

before you put it out to the street.

Remember that are always new scams almost every

day, people trying to part you and your hard-earned

cash. Be careful! We don’t want to see you on the

news!

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office visits Spanish Lakes Country Club for a

Golf Cart Christmas Parade to benefit children in our community that are less

fortunate.

WHEN? Saturday, December 5th, 2020, at 3:30 P.M.

The Parade will start and end at the club house.

The parade will be led by the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office and will involve a sleigh that

residents will be able to place toys into for the kids in our community. Please come out and

support these kids by donating books, toys or gift cards. Your Sheriff’s Office family under-

stands that 2020 has not been the best year; however, we know that with your support, we

can brighten someone’s holiday season!

Gifts can be dropped off at the club house or on the parade route.

Due to the number of vehicles being

expected and the sleigh being pulled

in the parade, the parade will stay on

the main roadways throughout the

Spanish Lakes Country Club Village.

HOA MEMBERSHIP

VILLAGE CART SLCCV C.O.P. - COMMUNITY

OBSERVATION PATROL The Village Cart is a group of volunteers who hold

receptions for new residents. Important infor-

mation for new residents; treats and gifts will be

provided! This activity has been suspended for the

time being. The volunteers look forward to seeing

the “newbies”!

Wouldn’t it be nice if we had 100% of residents as

members of the H.O.A.? At $3 per person it’s one

of the best deals in town! If you want your voice to

be heard and your vote to count, you must have cur-

rent membership status. As soon as we have meet-

ings again our membership drive will begin for the

2021 year.

It’s that time of year again when the SLCCV C.O.P.

has our fundraising drive. Even though the Sheriff’s

Department suspended our driving for several

months, rest assured that members of our team were

driving their own cars and golf carts, riding bicycles,

and in some cases walking around the park unobtru-

sively and unofficially keeping our ears and eyes on

our community.

We would like to serve SLCCV better by increasing the number of patrols from two to three 3 hour shifts

for a total of nine hours a day when we will be pa-trolling. That would give better coverage on our streets 24/7. We have had to “retire” the small car provided by the Sheriff’s Department, and are now

driving a larger car that uses more gas.

This year we would like to ask you to donate $20 per household to help us pay for gas for the extra shift. We always appreciate every donation, large or small,

and we are thankful for the support we have received from the SLCCV community over the years.

As a reminder we are “eyes and ears only” for the

Sheriff’s Department. We can only call 911 when

necessary. We do not carry weapons of any kind nor

are we deputized. We do not work for the Wynne

Building Corporation. We do not enforce any rules

of the park management. We do not put parking no-

tices on residents’ cars.

If you think you would like to be part of our team,

please contact Ellie, 772-359-7224. Please be aware that this program requires criminal background checks, fingerprinting, and a four day training class conducted by the Sheriff’s Department.

PROJECT L.O.S.T./LIFESAVER

Our SLCCV C.O.P. group is proud to have been chosen to be trained for Project L.O.S.T. It’s safe

to say that our group is the most active of all the groups in St. Lucie County.

We have taken on a new endeavor with the Sheriff’s Department called “Project: L.O.S.T.”, Locating

Our Survivors Timely. Eight C.O.P. members have been trained and certified to search for clients in the program who wear transmitter bracelets. They are

on call 24/7/365. The best chance for the survival of someone with autism or Alzheimer’s who has wan-dered off is to find them in 30 minutes. Once we

initiate a search, we will be joined by deputies who are trained and certified as well. Our team will op-erate separately from routine patrols.

Some of you saw us wandering around with anten-nas a couple of weeks ago while we were being test-

ed. We’ll continue to practice to keep our new skills sharp!
