Bohemian RhapsodyCoastline is a decentralized college with four learning sites in different cities in Orange County; I work mostly in WestminsterIn fall 2011, there was one Student Success Center that offered walk-in tutoring in English and math only, staffed by ~12 adjunct and full-time instructors in math and English/ESL with four tutorsHelp! I Needed SomebodyReframed SSC as a study and tutoring center for all disciplines, not just English and math, through a marketing and communications campaignAdapted HoM to create DOLPHIN: Dream, Organize, Learn, Persist, Have a plan, Innovate, and Never give up.Started hiring tutors in fall 2011 (students, grad students) and have never stopped.Funded through BSI and Title IIIHere and NowEDUC C101 (Tutor Training) (0.5 unit online course)Hourly assistant / SI Leader~30 tutors spread across four Success CentersEmbedded Tutoring (e.g., English, math, accounting) (online and onsite)Supplemental Instruction (Natural Sciences)LIVE online supplemental instruction for Math C010, C030, and C160 (Stats)2014 Tutor Expo (Coastline, Fullerton, Pierce, Chaffey)Widespread support for institutionalization of tutoring ($150,000 annual budget in 2015, hopefully)
