Dear Brothers and Sisters Greetings to all Our country has lost the Missile Man, Former President of India Dr.A.P.J.Abdul kalam who had a Vision to make India as a super power in 2020. He loved the people especially the students of this country. He met more than 5 crore students. As he wished, that he passed away while he was interacting with students. I had the personal opportunity to be with him on 2006 as the secretary of IMA Erode Branch during the inauguration of IMAYAM centre for terminally ill cancer patients. He was warmly remembered during the inauguration of IMAYAM Phase II Conducted on 24th July 2015 by Dr.K.Rosaiah, His Excellency the Governor of Tamilnadu. IMA TNSB Doctors Day Celebration and IMAYAM Phase II inauguration at Erode IMA Tamilnadu State Branch Doctors Day Celebration was conducted in grand manner at Erode on 24th July 2015. Dr.K.Rosaiah His Excellency the Governor of Tamilnadu was our Chief Guest and our National President Dr.A.Marthanda Pillai was the Guest of Honour. They both of them were present and graced the occasion. The Awards are presented to the Doctors and to non medical persons for their best services. The Doctors Day Celebration is conducted at various branches in our State, we are getting reports from that branches. IMA CGP Convocation Programme IMA CGP Convocation Programme held at Madurai IMA ASI Hall on 2nd August 2015. Thiru Abhay Kumar Singh IPS, Inspector General of Police, South Zone and Thiru V.V. Rajan Chellap,a Mayor, Madurai Municipal Corporation both of them were our Chief Guest and Dr.Revathi Kayilairajan- Dean, Madurai Medical College and Dr. Vadivel Murugan- Dean, Kanyakumari Medical College both of them were the Guest of Honour graced the occasion. 250 candidates were graduated on that day. I thank Dr.M.Amanullah and Madurai branch for their excellent arrangements. IMA TNSB Elections The IMA TNSB Election details were published in the last TIMA itself. Kindly make note of the change in the election dates, since we have CWC Meeting on 19th and 20th September 2015. IMA Paramedical Wing I had discussions at Karpagam University to affiliate IMA Paramedical Courses, with Vice chancellor, Registrar and with the Dean of Karpagam Medical College on last month. The talks were very useful. Dr.A.K.Ravikumar and Dr. Karthick Prabhu were there at the discussion. Dear Colleagues, Greetings. I wish you all a Happy Doctors Day!

Doctors Day was celebrated in all branches throughout India. My dream is that Doctors Day be celebrated by the public and not by the doctors. I hope that day will soon be a reality. Despite various problems we face in our day to day practice our profession is a noble one. If we spend a few minutes with the patient and communicate well with them, we can avoid litigations.

We must concentrate on the youngsters and motivate them to join IMA. July and August are membership drive months and I request all local branch presidents and secretaries to take interest to increase the membership.

I attended the Doctors Day celebrations at Chennai organized by four branches, Chennai Teynampet, Pillar city, Chennai Marina and Chennai south. The function was organized in an excellent manner by Dr.Raja Rajeshwar and Dr.Amudha Karunanidhi.I attended the function of the Young Men of India Association organized by Dr.Ikram, Secretary of Vellore CMC branch at Polytechnic College. About 300 hundred students attended. The aim of the association is to make them responsible, service oriented citizens.

Doctors Day celebration of TNSB was organized at Erode and inauguration of IMAYAM phase 2 on July 24th in a grand manner. I attended Doctors Day celebration as Chief Guest at Ranipet IMA and at Vellore IMA. DOCTORS Green Street project was initiated at Vellore with planting of tree saplings. The Family Meet of Vellore IMA was organized in a wonderful manner and the children had a great time.

I congratulate all the Doctors Day awardees in all the branches.Long Live IMA!

It gives me great pleasure in addressing you through TIMA News. We are pleased to inform our members that we have authorized two companies for providing digitalization of your hospital records, hospital management software and networking. They offer two types of software services – offline with server and another online the rates differs

slightly online being cheaper, we have fixed early bird rates for the two varieties for the first three months as follows. 1)Online - 40,000/- 2) Offline - 50,000/- The cost of equipment and maintenance will be extra. Some hospitals in Trichy and Thanjavur faced a different problem from Microsoft – Their franchisee approached them for replacement of pirated versions of Windows and MS-Office in their systems with genuine software at a cost. When NHB came to know of this we immediately contacted Microsoft office in Mumbai and got a reasonable deal for our members through repeated emails and mobile conversations. Microsoft agreed to install one pair of software for first 3 units and 3 pairs (Windows + MS-Office) for next every 5 units. We request our members to make use of this opportunity to convert to genuine software.

Courtallam is going to host the 106th NHB Meeting on 6-9-2015. Issues like bio medical instrumentation, group purchase, NABH Accreditation and legal issues. The stress will be on accreditation since both central and state government are expected to insist minimum on entry level accreditation. We request our members to take up efforts to upgrade the facilities and infrastructure in their hospitals so that they will become eligible to get sanction for entry level accreditation. This will help them to apply for recognition from insurance companies.

In this regards we are happy to inform you all the guidelines and application form from NABH for pre-entry level accreditation has been uploaded into our website www.imanhb.org. The same box carries a registration form from HBI (Hospital Board of India) which has taken up training of small and medium hospitals at very reasonable rates.

He believed in Educating & Grooming Youngsters who are the pillars of future India. It is a Great loss for India especially the young Indians. We pray for his soul to Rest in peace & also many more KALAMS to be born in India.

Regarding affiliation of Our Paramedical courses. We along with Our State Secretary Dr. C.N.Raja had discussion with The Chairman of Karpagam University & their Core Committee & They have in Principle accepted for Recognizing our Courses. We are working On that & We hope to come with good result for our next state council meet. Our Paramedical convocation will be by the end of August.

Dear Brothers & Sisters, Doctors’ Day has been & is being observed in a grand manner by many IMA branches & our state Branch had coupled it with the Inauguration of ‘ïka«’ - centre fro terminally ill cancer patients - phase III by his excellency the governor of Tamilnadu on 24th July 2015. We have also organised a Doctors’ day commemorative CME programme along with IMA Poonamallee High Road Branch, on 9th Augest 2015, at Hotel Ramada, Egmore Chennai -8, on “Updates in Medical & Surgical Oncology”. Dr.N.Muthurajan, State Joint Secretary has kindly consented to be the Guest of honour. Non Alcoholic Fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is rapidly increasing in our country & is closely linked to DM, HT, obesity & the Metabolic syndrome. Approximately 30% of our population are at a higher risk of developing fatty liver & many of them may develop significant LIVER DISEASE. Dr. N. Murugan, Hepatologist, Apollo Hospitals, our life member, organised a symposium to address this burning issue, on 5th July 2015, at Taj Club House, Mount Road, Chennai wherein many of our members participated. 10th to 12th July 2015, “Trendo 2015" 3rd Annual Conference of Endocrine Society of Tamil nadu & Puducherry was organised at Hotel Kodai International, Kodaikanal by Dr. V.Kumaravel, Madurai. It addressed latest updates, emerging concepts, clinical applications & controversies in DM, Thyroid, gonadal problems, metabolic Bone Disease. I was among the faculty. 18th July 2015 a cme programme on children’s growth: “Short Child: why, when & how to evaluate & treat?” was held at Hotel Ramada, Egmore, Chennai-8. Children need our “Tender Loving Care” On 19th July Prof.Dr.T.V.Devarajan presented a case study of completion of 175 cases treated in advance fever clinic, at The Park, Chennai-6. Prof.Dr.K.V.Thiruvengadan released a CD on The Text Book of Medicine.” I was honoured by The Apollo Group. Fevers are not to be neglected esply, if associated with sweating, shivering, headaches, muscle aches, loss of appetite, dehydration & general weakness, August is a special month with WORLD BREAST FEEDING WEEK (1st to 7th) Independence Day (15th) & of course my birthday (26th)

The Convocation for the Successful Candidate of the various courses of IMACGP 2014 – 2015, is fixed on Sunday the 2nd AUG 2015 at Madurai IMA. We thank the State President Dr.R.V.Surendran and Hony. State Secretary Dr.C.N.Raja for having chosen Madurai IMA as the venue of the Convocation. It is gratifying to note that there is a gradual increase in the number of applicants to join the Courses in the last 30 days. We are starting the Endocrinology Course on 16th AUG 2015 at Madurai IMA and the second module of Diabetology Course – Madurai Centre is fixed on 2nd Aug at our Madurai IMA. The Oncology Course is to be started in the month of September 2015 at Medicity Hospital, Madurai. O u r F o r m e r P r e s i d e n t Dr.A.P.J.AbdulKalam is not with us anymore. As per his wish, he passed away while talking to the students. He had requested not to declare aholidayon his death,but the love of the common man for the “People's President” made even the petty shop owners to declare leave to

watch his last rites. That shows the affection Indians have for him. Apart from Rocket Science, he has taken much interest in research in theMedical field for Cardiac Stents, Ophthalmic Lasers, etc…

The President of India created history in Erode by travelling 25kms by car to inaugurate a small building, IMAYAM, on 18.12.2006, a home for terminally ill Cancer Patients run by IMA Erode Branch. IMAYAM phase II inauguration was conducted on State Doctors Day at Erode by His Excellency the Governor of Tamil Nadu Dr.K.Rosiah, he also travelled 100kms by car from Coimbatore. Selfless service always gives good results.

Our National President Dr. A.Marthanda Pillai was the Guest of Honour and he insisted on the modification of the Consumer Protection Act.

Thanks to our State President Dr.R.V.S.Surendran, State Secretary and IMAYAM Treasurer Dr.C.N.Raja, State Finance Secretary Dr.V.Madhavan, Vice President of West Zone IMA TNSB and IMAYAM President Dr.K.M.Abul Hassan, Dr.A.Muruganathan, Past President and Vice President, Tamil Nadu Red Cross Society, who were present on that day.

Dr. Alex Franklin, Joint Secretary, IMA H.Q,accompanied the National President and discussed with us regarding the Supreme Court Judgement of V.Krishnakumar Vs State of Tamil Nadu & others regarding Retinopathy of Prematurity. In which the respondents were awarded a total compensation to the tune of Rs.1, 80, 27,921/-……!!!Judgement points out that the Retinopathy of Prematurityshould be looked for periodically from the 3rd week with the help of Ophthalmologist. In the above case, the 2 concerned doctors may go for revision petition. IMA National PPLSSS and IMA Kerala PPLSSS are willing to implead themselves in the case and have requested PPLSSS of IMA TNSB to also implead itself in the case. Few of our Members had mentioned about PPLSSS in their reply sent to the lawyer notice and there was enquiry about PPLSSS. So it was decided in the Management Committee and General Body of PPLSSS of IMA TNSB to advise the members not to use the PPLSSS name anywhere in any notices or in court. IMA can implead itself in any case in the name of IMA only, not in the name of PPLSSS. If IMA State Council decides IMA can implead for the sake of our profession, if the revision petition as accepted by the Supreme Court.LessonEven in Govt Hospital, we must be careful in writing the case sheet. Whatever we tell to the patient must be recorded in writing in the case sheet. If we instruct the junior doctor (sometimes Nurses) we must see he/she writes all our instructions properly in the case sheet (not in the corner of the case sheet). Last month in PPLSSS Secretary Report it was mentioned that the compensation claimshave gone up to 1 crore also. Let us be careful. We can even raise the PPLSSS compensation to 10, 00,000 by paying more subscription as mentioned subsequently.
