Sales volume in 2008 totaled 16.4 million Euros: 12.5 corresponded to Master S. A. de Ingeniería y Arquitectura and 3.9 to Master, S. L. Architecture et Ingenierie Maghreb, which represents a 30% decrease compared to 2007 turnover. The main reason for such decrease lies in a sales volume drop in Design & Build operations (€ 7.2 million in 2008 compared to € 14.9 million in 2007). It is well known that Design and Build contracts are an Opportunity Business for Master, which vary from year to year.
The € 9.25 million worth portfolio of architectural and engineering contracts remained stable and even experienced a slight 6.5% increase compared to the previous year. This figure, however, fell significantly short vi-à-vis the goals set at the beginning of the year, which could not be fulfilled basically due to the economic downturn we are going through. In this context, some of the projects were put on hold in the second half of 2008 and others already in progress witnessed a substantial investment decrease due to lack of financing. This situation led to reduced contract fees and expected billing.
The most important industrial projects completed in 2008 were the Synchrotron Light Laboratory for CELLS and Phase III of Damm’s Logistics Platform in the Logistics Activities Area located in the Port of Barcelona. The sum of industrial works carried out totaled € 73.3 million.
As regards architectural and other outstanding projects, works completed in 2008 represent a certified final value of approximately € 121.8 million. Among these projects, it is worth highlighting the Aragon Pavilion and the Congress Hall for Expoagua Zaragoza 2008, the new Telefonica Corporate University in Parc de Belloch, La Roca del Vallés and the new headquarters for the Institute of Predictive and Personalized Medicine against Cancer, from the Germans Trias i PujolHospital in Badalona.
Thus, projects with works completed in 2008 represented a total investment of € 195.1 million, 47.8% more than for works completed in 2007.
By the end of the year, the investment volume for projects and works in progress was around € 637 million for the 2009-2012 period. However, given current market uncertainty, it is difficult to guarantee that such amount will be actually invested. Nevertheless, at the time of drafting this report, no signed contract had been cancelled and we could only guess that the period provided for such investment will expand to 2014.

Among the most representative works currently under execution we can mention the Bbraun new serum plant in Rubí, the extension of the Corporate Headquarters and the New Auditorium at the Caixa Penedès in Vilafranca del Penedès, and the new Convention Center and Far West Hotel that the Port Aventura company is building in its amusement park in Vilaseca-Salou, Tarragona. Works scheduled to be completed throughout 2009 include the Agro-Genomics Research Center, which is being built by the CSIC-IRTA consortium at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and Diagonal 00 Tower, which will house future Telefónica headquarters in Barcelona.
Among projects in the design stage by the end of the year, it is worth mentioning the new School of Industrial Engineering on the Besós campus of the UPC, the extension of LIDL headquarters in Montcada i Reixac, and the conversion project of the Support Buildings for the Expo Zaragoza which involves the refurbishment of some 165,000 square meters of roof area and next to € 240 million investment.
2008 has also been a key year for our subsidiary Master Société Limité d’ Ingénierie et Architecture Maghreb, which has completed the turnkey construction of Irizar Maroc new manufacturing plant of buses and coaches in Skhirat, Morocco. In the first stage, this work entailed the constructionof about 16,000 square meters of built area for a production capacity of 250 units per year, at a value exceeding 100 million dhrs.
Other international projects in which Master has been involved over the past year include participating in the tender for the beam lines extension of the ESRF (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility) in Grenoble, and the new CESLAB Synchrotron in Brno, Czech Republic, as well as conducting preliminary studies for the new research and development center of mutagenic drugs for Ipsen Dreux in France.
As in previous editions, I am pleased to present the works completed in 2008 and projects that were in the design stage or in execution by year end. I thank all our clients for their confidence in Master and our staff for making these projects come true.

The project includes the design of the building and external urbanization. The building proposed by B01 Architects is a rectangular space, divided into four blocks, coated with a reflective skin that will mirror the trees of the forest in which it is located, with large glass openings that will allow seeing the inside and visually integrating it in the landscape. The south facade is designed to locate the office area while the north will host laboratories and workshops. The public areas (showroom, museum, auditorium, classrooms, dining room, etc.) will be located in the central areas of the complex. The parking area will be located in the building deck. The energy production becomes a symbolic element of the building, when placed in a large South-oriented pergola, which supports the solar collectors and photovoltaic cells.

The building, which has volume dimensions of 43.25 by 53.70 m, is divided into four areas of laboratories and a service center. Surface Area
The building consists of two main functions and spaces that are the Exhibit Hall and multi-purpose rooms. The building geometry is formed by two large rectangular blocks oriented to two different views and at different levels. Their articulation serves to house complementary functions as the Harvard room or adjoining exhibition rooms. The glass box that marks the access to the multi-purpose rooms, formally emphasizes the change of direction between the two large volumes. The rest of the spaces (meeting rooms, administrative area, technical rooms) are aligned in the North and East facades in bodies of lower height than the two main volumes.
