…and in Trentino???...
CENTRO TRASFERIMENTO TECNOLOGICO
Only on few varieties:PINOT GRIS (and other PINOTS)
TRAMINER(FRIULANO OR TOKAY in Friuli;
GLERA in Veneto)
Between 2004 and 2009 symptoms noted only in Mezzocorona: “Zablani”
Since 2009 also in neighbour towns
…and in the rest of the world?
Detected in Korea, in Slovakia and Czech Republic

How symptoms occur
Diseased grapevines show stunted growth, less Vigour, millerandage and low quality of berries
CENTRO TRASFERIMENTO TECNOLOGICO
What causes???
CENTRO TRASFERIMENTO TECNOLOGICO
Different ideas:1. Insects bites2. Mites3. Direct damage from nematode4. Boron or microelements deficiency5. Phytoplasmosis6. Virosis
VIROSIS
But…Why virus?
Only a few induce pathological conditions relevant from an economic point in all wine-growing areas of the world
CENTRO TRASFERIMENTO TECNOLOGICO
62 Viruses recorded in grapevine!!!!
Outcome…
A metagenomic approach discovered a new grapevine trichovirus
which is named Grapevine Pinot Gris virus (GPGV) (Gianpietruzzi et al., 2012)

Aim of project
CENTRO TRASFERIMENTO TECNOLOGICO
To define etiology and the biological feature of this disease we have started a project about:
1. FIELD MONITORING2. EPIDEMIOLOGY3. DIAGNOSIS4. VECTOR5. CONTROL
FEM , CNR and Bari University, Bologna University
Field monitoring: Materials and methods
• Screening on different varieties• Period of symptoms relief• In 2012 and 2013: monitored 521 vineyards
in 56 municipalities• Since 2010: 3 vineyard maps• Symptoms scale
