This year is the 55th anniversary of Disneyland Resort, and D23 is celebrating this milestone year with the premiere of Destina-tion D: Disneyland ’55, a brand-new, two-day event that illumi-nates the fascinating history behind Disney’s flagship park.

Destination D: Disneyland ’55 will take D23 Members on a mesmerizing journey through the design, creation, debut and magical his-tory of the world’s first Disney theme park. The event will offer two full days of special presentations, panels, screenings and guest speakers that give fans an inside view of this fascinating era in Disney history and let them meet and talk with key figures in Disneyland’s history. Future Destination D events will explore other important aspects of Disney’s amazing creative legacy. Follow-ing its premiere in September, Destination D will alternate annually with the enor-mously popular D23 Expo.

Event highlights include our Mickey Mouse Club 55th Anniversary presentation, reunit-ing original Mouseketeers Sharon Baird, Doreen Tracey, Bobby Burgess, Karen Pendleton, Sherry Van Meter (formerly Alberoni), Tommy Cole, Cubby O’Brien, and Mary Geoff (formerly Espinosa) for a delightful trip back in time to the dawning of the television era with the club that was, like D23, “made for you and me.”

Destination D will also mark the debut of the Disney Legends Celebration, a heartfelt tribute to those who have made a lasting contribution to the Disney legacy. All Destination D attendees and Disney Legends will be invited to attend E-Ticket: Music from the Disney Parks, a concert of memorable tunes through the years at the Disneyland Resort with some very special guests, including Disney Legend Richard Sherman.

All guests will also receive a limited-edition set of colorful, vin-tage Disneyland postcards from the Walt Disney Archives Collec-tion. It’s a reproduction of actual postcards sold when Disneyland opened in 1955 — it’s just a coincidence that the complete set features 23 images!

There will also be a selection of limited edition merchandise available for purchase at the event.

Each individual seller sets his own price. Therefore, the Ex-change can maintain hundreds of listings on the same piece. On the first day of each quarter,

the Exchange publishes it's lowest listing per item. The Disneyana Exchange charges a 10% commission fee to buy & sell. The "listed" price includes the seller's fee. Buyers simply place their orders by phone, fax, or internet website (www.disneyanaexchange.com). We will then confirm the lowest available price, add the 10% commission and a small amount for shipping & insurance. All pieces are guaranteed to be in mint condition with their appropriate boxes and certification if applicable. Average transaction time for both buyers and sellers is 3-6 weeks. So, kick your feet up, relax, and prepare to enter a whole new world of collecting, investing, and enjoyment. Disney Legend Ilene Woods, who voiced Cin-derella in the 1950 classic, has passed away at the age of 81. Woods was born on May 5, 1929 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and was both a singer and actres. In 1948, as a favor for songwriter friends Mack David and Jerry Liv-ingston, Ilene Woods recorded “Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo,” “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes,” and “So This is Love.” She didn’t know that Walt Disney would hear the demo recordings and hire her as the title voice of his upcom-ing animated feature “Cinderella”.” I learned a very good lesson,” she later recalls. “Never pass up doing a good deed for friends!” She was a featured performer on Jack Carson’s “Sealtest Village Store,” when selected from a field of nearly 400 hopefuls to voice Cinderella. During recording sessions, Walt would drop by to offer suggestions, including asking Ilene if she could harmonize with herself on “Oh Sing Sweet Nightingale.”She recalls, “It was such a beauti-ful sequence - Cinderella scrubbing the floor and each time a soap bubble would rise with another image of Cinderella, so would another voice. When we heard the finished product, Walt kidded, ‘How about that? All of these years I’ve been paying three salaries for the Andrews Sisters, when I could have only paid one for you!” Later, Walt admitted to Ilene she was his favorite of the Disney heroines. She recalls, “Once I went into his office and he said to me, ‘You’re my favorite heroine, you know.’ I said, ‘You mean Cinderella?’ ‘Yes,’ he said, ‘there’s something about that story I associate with.’”I think it was the rags-to-riches tale,” she says. “Of course, then I didn’t know how many times Walt had risked it all to realize his dreams.”Ilene Woods was named a Disney Legend in 2003.

The Walt Disney Classics Collection notified Authorized Dealers recently that the 2007 Signature Series release from Beauty and the Beast (“The Curse is Broken”) will no longer be offered due to high breakage in-volving the base and Cogsworth & Lumiere. Instead, in response to repeated retailer and collector requests, they announced a special opportunity offering the remaining quantity of character sculptures to be sold individu-ally with revised Certificates of Authenticity. With this new special offer, dealers will not be able to honor requests for matching lim-ited edition numbers even if a retailer orders all four individual sku’s at once. Disneyland: The Way We Were:Remember the Mickey Mouse Club Circus, Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship, TWA Rocket to the Moon, The Frito Kid, or America Sings? For those of you planning to attend the epic D23 event, put this on your calendar too. Disneyland Hotel’s Grand Ballroom will be the place to be his September 18th from 4-10 pm when the 1313 Club will host an evening MC’d by actor Neil Patrick Harris, celebrating the incredible mechanical history of theme park ani-matronics and other mechanical magic. The event will spotlight attractions, characters and memorable devices created by WED Imagineering and later used at theme parks around the world. Using rare images, video, authentic props and animatronics, we’ll journey through the story of this fascinating technology that changed the world of themed entertainment. Event highlights include presentations by Disney Legends as they share their memories of working with the original Imagineer Walt Disney. The event will give fans an inside view of this little known aspect of Disney park creation and an opportunity to meet and talk with the people who create the magic. This once-in-a-lifetime evening will honor Disneyland as one of the world’s great storytelling en-vironments, with special emphasis on its technological wonders. Combining history, entertainment, lots of surprises and featuring never-before-seen props and artifacts, it’s an event not to be missed by any Disney or animatronics fan! The current lineup is an impressive collection of legendary and behind-the-scenes talent. (Panels and talent subject to change.)

From Paper to Life – Giving Movement and Voice to Animated Characters: Animators and voice artists breathe life into draw-ings and turn them into realistic characters. One of the most

beloved animated Disney character, Alice from Alice in Wonder-land, was brought to life on fi lm and later through the magic of animatronics. Disney Legend Kathryn Beaumont shares what it takes to voice this classic character. Animator Floyd Norman utilized his talents from beloved 2D animated Disney fi lms to today’s 3D wonders, many of which are featured in popular rides and attractions. Follow his journey from enchanted forests and “Lightyears” beyond.

Rides, Roads and Roars – From Monorails and Flying Saucers to the Roars of Dinosaurs and King Kong! : Disney Legend Bob Gurr is truly a wonder. For 55 years he’s helped move many a happy Disney theme park guest aboard vehicles and convey-ances of his own design. Even retirement didn’t slow him down; he went on to create a vast array of fantastical beasts including King Kong and dinosaurs for Jurassic Park. If you haven’t heard Bob speak of his adventures before, you’re in for a treat! Those who have, you know he’ll regale us with stories of his rich career that are not soon to be forgotten!

MAPO Magic – The History of Audio Animatronics: The early days of MAPO brought an entirely new technology to the forefront of the industry and Rick Berryman was part of it all. Hear what it was like to be there during this groundbreaking time at WED from the man who, according to legend, has created more Audio-Ani-matronics fi gures for Disney than any other individual. Joining him with the history of Audio-Animatronics are two of today’s most talented Imagineers, Larry Nikolai and Ethan Reed shar-ing a presentation rarely seen outside the walls of Walt Disney Imagineering.

It’s Alive! - The Art and Science of Audio Animatronics Pro-gramming: The hands that have masterfully programmed many beloved Disney characters at Disney resorts around the world are now hard at work making the ultimate in animatronics fi gures come to life. Darrin Hughes shares a rare demonstration of how these amazing mechanical wonders are programmed for lifelike motion.

The Next Generation – Advancements in animatronics From Chuck E. Cheese to Dragons and Beyond!: When Garner Holt was young he was so inspired by Walt Disney and Disneyland, he dreamed of a career building things just like he saw at the park. At 16 he founded what would become the largest and internation-ally recognized animatronics design and manufacturing company. The company has built more than 2,000 animatronics charac-ters from song birds to dinosaurs and dragons and will soon premiere the most advanced animatronics fi gure to date. Is your collection out of control? Are there more pieces in your closet than on display? Are you fed up with Ebay? Well.... we may be able to help. With this program, you will be able to ship all items at once and will reclaim full value by a tax deduction. Here's how it works:

* First you'll need to contact us for a "reservation". We need to space out incoming collections so that we do not overload the charities in-volved.

* Upon arrival, we will examine all pieces for condition, boxes, certifi-cates, etc. We will then do a written inventory followed by a formal written third party appraisal. You MUST have this appraisal in order to satisfy part 3 of form 8283. Note: Appraisals will be based on "Fair Market Value" reflecting full secondary market potential and not on Ebay pricing.

* Collection will then be donated in your name to one of our authorized charities. A receipt will be provided to you for IRS verification purpose.

* Once the transaction is complete, the Exchange will then forward to you for your tax records the Donee Acknowledgment Receipt, 2 Copies of the Written Appraisal, and the signed IRS forms.

We receive calls everyday from people in need of selling "today". Al-though everyone's situation is different, we truly feel that this may be an excellent way to put closure to a situation and recapture the full value of your collection. How we work is that people call us from around the country who would like to sell their pieces. They set their own price. If you would like to purchase an item, simply call the exchange. We will quote you the lowest item available, add 10% commission charge, and a small charge for shipping. When an item is sold, we will contact the seller and they will ship it to the Exchange. The buyer will pay for the merchandise in advance and all funds will be held in an escrow account. This guarantees that the seller will be paid for his item. Acceptable forms of payment are as follows:

Personal Check: We wait 5 days for the check to clear before the merchandise is shipped. Money Order/Cashier's Check: Merchandise is sent immediately Mastercard/Visa/Discover: Merchandise is sent immediately. Bank Wire Transfer/Electric Funds Transfer: $20.00 flat fee - Merchandise is sent immediately.

After we receive the item, the Exchange will examine the merchandise and watermark the piece. Our standards for approving a piece for shipment are: 1. That an item is in mint condition. 2. The item has it’s original box. 3. The item has it’s Certificate of Authenticity. Once the item(s) is approved, we will then forward the item by Federal Express to the buyer.

The Disneyana Exchange professionally packages and insures all shipments. Should you receive damaged merchandise, please contact us immediately. It is important that the buyer saves the original shipping carton and all packaging supplies otherwise a replacement or refund will not be possible. The Disneyana Exchange will then contact Federal Express and arrange for a dam-aged inspection to take place at the delivery location within 24 hours. The Exchange will then confirm with Federal Express that a claim process will commence, and we will take steps to secure a replacement. In the event a replacement cannot be found, a refund will be issued when the claim has been settled.

The Disneyana Exchange inspects every item that is shipped out. Should you be unhappy with an undamaged item, please contact the Disneyana Exchange within 3 days of receipt. To receive a replacement, it is the buyers responsibility to return the merchandise to the Disneyana Exchange within 7 business days. All returned merchandise must arrive in mint condition, with it’s appropriate box and certificate, along with the original watermark intact. The Disneyana Exchange stands behind every item that is shipped, and will make every effort to replace the piece in question. In the event a replacement cannot be obtained, a full refund will be issued.

On average it takes between three to six weeks to complete a transaction, depending on how many pieces were ordered, the time it takes for the seller to ship the item(s), the courier's delivery time (they get backed up at holidays), etc. This newsletter is published quarterly and is usually e-mailed the 15th day of each quarter.
