Springtime

Trees bud out and flower; the grass turns green again. Flowers everywhere abound. Birds chirp and nest

with new-found energy. The whole world is alive.

The Monument this spring is also alive with new-found life as an “art treasure.” Outside, new ADA access

along with tall, handsome lights setting off the Memorial Room and the 125-foot column. The trees are

blooming pale pink blossoms and our grass is green with flower beds soon to be planted.

Inside all is new: new air conditioning and heating; new lighting and security systems; new cabinetry and

new computers – one for public use. The Monument has been fully rehabilitated with cleaned floors and

with re-coloration which vividly brings back the colored marble which originally was there. Colored floor

ornamentation makes that which was maudlin, now magnificent.

Be part of this rejuvenation. Visit and see what the preservation world is talking about! Rejoin the Monu-

ment Support Group! Participate in our grand celebration. Attend the official re-opening on Saturday, June

5 at 11:00 a.m. Join us for lunch at the Old Stone Church. Hear renowned Lincoln scholar Harold Holzer

deliver the lunchtime address!

I hope to see you there.
