1-180 St. Thomas of Villanova TENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JUNE 9, 2013 A note from Fr. Joe It’s been a few weeks since I’ve had a chance to write a note. I’m sorry about that, but I was away on vacation for 8 days and we’ve had special solemnities every Sunday. Hopefully you noticed that we included related prayers and thoughts for those. Anyway, here we are the 10 th Sunday in Ordinary Time. As our new deacon, Don DiCarlo, noted though, in the homily at his Mass of Thanksgiving, it really is in the everyday that we most often encounter our God as long as we keep our eyes and hearts open. There has been a lot to see and experience in recent days. I wanted to share some of that with you. First of all, we congratulate Deacon Don, once again, on his ordination, as well as his wife Denise and their children Justin, Erica, and Tori! Last weekend was a beautiful celebration at the Cathedral on Saturday and the Rosemont Chapel on Sunday. And I’m happy to announce that Don officially has been assigned to St. Thomas of Villanova as a permanent deacon. We look forward to his continued service in the parish! On a sadder note, Peggy Law of our Parish Staff lost her father, Edward Randow, on Thursday, May 23 rd . Please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers. Fr. Art and I were able to join them, along with many members of the staff, in celebrating the funeral liturgy in New Jersey last week. And, in other staff-related news, we’re entering a time of transition. Peggy will be leaving us in July. We welcome Jeanmarie Lorello, who will be taking over Peggy’s Administrative Assistant position – and Sr. Brigid Cannon, RSM will be joining us during the summer, as Sr. Anne Marie prepares to retire from her position as Pastoral Visitor to the Sick & Homebound. We’re blessed to have four such wonderful women and the time to ensure an orderly succession. Needless to say, however, Peggy and Sr. Anne Marie will be greatly missed. On a personal note, I deeply appreciate all that they’ve done for the parish – and me, and who they are as individuals. They radiate compassion, warmth, and positive energy. As a plaque on my desk declares, “The most wasted of all days is one without laughter.” I’ll have to remember that on Peggy’s and Sr. Anne Marie’s last day with us in the office! In the coming weeks, we’ll be sure to share more with you about Jeanmarie and Sr. Brigid. Finally, if you haven’t had a chance to check out the new landscaping between the Rosemont Chapel and the Parish Center, please do so. Thanks to Brendan Gibbons, a parishioner, and his company for doing such a great job! We hope to have work done on the rest of the property, as time and treasure permit. Happy Ordinary Time! Fr. Joe Thank you for your generosity for the weekend of June 1 and 2, 2013: Number of Envelopes 276 Envelope Amount $15,793.00 Loose Cash $1,035.00 Electronic Offerings $1,277.88 Other $35.00 Total $18,130.88 10% Tithe $1,813.09 Income for June 11, 2012 $20,679.55 Stewardship Thought for the Week “And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep”. (Luke 7:13) This verse is a great reminder that the Stewardship life- style is one of service, putting God first and to “love one another”. Unfortunately today, many people have “passion” for activities they enjoy - their job and off-work activities. Many times our “passion” to excel is at the expense of someone else. Maybe we need to focus on a little less passion for our individual concerns and a lot more compassion for others.

SHARE THE HARVEST!

Our parish will be helping to feed the less fortunate in Philadelphia again this summer by providing fresh fruits and vegetables to the food pantry at our sister parish. Whether you have a large garden, or just a sunny spot in your yard, consider adding a few bean, pepper or tomato plants, etc. to contribute to this worthy cause. What better way to set a Christian example for your children or grandchildren than to grow and share the food with those who are needy!
