A Note from Pastor Troy During our last session of FBC-U, the Christian response to wealth, Clay asked a question that has caused much reflection on my part. He asked, "If you knew that your next financial catastrophe (medical expense, home rebuilding after a storm, etc.) would be covered by our church, would it affect how you give?" This thought is provoked by what we read of the early church in Acts 2:45, "And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need." We are a people who have much compared to the rest of the world. From a global perspective, we are a wealthy people. Yet, it seems that when our brothers and sisters within the church face struggles and trials of many kinds, their church family is not around to the degree that we observe in Acts 2. This begs the question as to why. I think it is because we have become so individual and private with our faith that we are either unaware of the needs of others or we are unwilling to get involved in the lives of others. Yet, when we measure that response to what Scripture says, we find our response seriously lacking. With this in mind, let us go back to the question from the beginning and look at it from a different perspective. How will your giving be affected knowing that your church family will take care of you in your time of need? What if we gave as the Lord leads? I think the ministry that would be possible would be astounding. Thank you for praying for your College Minister Search Team. They are in the home stretch. They have completed interviewing the final three candidates and will have a recommendation for us soon. This has been an exciting process. We have such a phenomenal team who have worked and prayed tirelessly throughout these past six months. While I'm on the subject of prayer, I hope that you are continuing to pray for our church at 19:23/7:23 pm each day. Someone asked me, “Why 19:23?” The reason is that our church was founded in 1923, so what better way to remember to pray for FBC than at the time that correlates with the year we were founded. As you pray, keep an eye open for the ways God is at work in our church. I want to take a moment to say a word of thanks to a lady who has faithfully served alongside our food pantry for about the last 20 years. Jeanie Sampson has been a great supporter of our food pantry. You may not know Jeanie by name. She is not a member of FBC, but, nonetheless, has worked alongside us to meet the needs of hungry people. She is affectionately known as the "Bread Lady." Her ministry involved working with local grocery stores to gather donations of bakery items to our food pantry. Every Monday, she would deliver boxes full of bakery items to the church for distribution on Tuesdays. A little over a month ago, Jeanie "retired" as the bread lady. Many of you know her or know of her. We are so thankful for the many years of partnership with Jeanie. Blessings, Vol. 26, No. 12 Ph. 979-696-7000 June 26 - July 10, 2016 Fax 979-693-4778

A Note from Pastor Troy

During our last session of FBC-U, the Christian response to wealth, Clay asked

a question that has caused much reflection on my part. He asked, "If you knew

that your next financial catastrophe (medical expense, home rebuilding after a

storm, etc.) would be covered by our church, would it affect how you give?"

This thought is provoked by what we read of the early church in Acts 2:45,

"And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the

proceeds to all, as any had need." We are a people who have much compared

to the rest of the world. From a global perspective, we are a wealthy people.

Yet, it seems that when our brothers and sisters within the church face struggles and trials of many

kinds, their church family is not around to the degree that we observe in Acts 2. This begs the

question as to why. I think it is because we have become so individual and private with our faith that

we are either unaware of the needs of others or we are unwilling to get involved in the lives of others.

Yet, when we measure that response to what Scripture says, we find our response seriously lacking.

With this in mind, let us go back to the question from the beginning and look at it from a different

perspective. How will your giving be affected knowing that your church family will take care of you in

your time of need? What if we gave as the Lord leads? I think the ministry that would be possible

would be astounding.

Thank you for praying for your College Minister Search Team. They are in the home stretch. They

have completed interviewing the final three candidates and will have a recommendation for us soon.

This has been an exciting process. We have such a phenomenal team who have worked and prayed

tirelessly throughout these past six months. While I'm on the subject of prayer, I hope that you are

continuing to pray for our church at 19:23/7:23 pm each day. Someone asked me, “Why 19:23?” The

reason is that our church was founded in 1923, so what better way to remember to pray for FBC than

at the time that correlates with the year we were founded. As you pray, keep an eye open for the ways

God is at work in our church.

I want to take a moment to say a word of thanks to a lady who has faithfully served alongside our food

pantry for about the last 20 years. Jeanie Sampson has been a great supporter of our food pantry.

You may not know Jeanie by name. She is not a member of FBC, but, nonetheless, has worked

alongside us to meet the needs of hungry people. She is affectionately known as the "Bread Lady."

Her ministry involved working with local grocery stores to gather donations of bakery items to our food

pantry. Every Monday, she would deliver boxes full of bakery items to the church for distribution on

Tuesdays. A little over a month ago, Jeanie "retired" as the bread lady. Many of you know her or know

of her. We are so thankful for the many years of partnership with Jeanie.

Building & Property

Thank you to Linda Grant for taking time to work on the rock beds in front of the sanctuary and offices. She spent several days pulling rocks

out, putting new weed barrier down, cleaning the rocks and replacing them. Thank you, Linda!

The Properties Committee is planning to have architects from The Arkitex Studio present a master plan for the church sometime in August. The church was so busy in April and May that we were not able to present anything during those months. Once the architects verify that they

are available, we will begin sending out information about this important town hall.

Offerings

Contribution statements for the first quarter were sent out several weeks ago. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an e-mail

FBC Disaster Relief Team Needs YOU!

It’s been a few years since our church was mobilized as a hurricane shelter. Recently, the Red Cross asked us to serve as a local relief shelter after a tornado and strong

storms passed through our cities. While we ended up not being needed, it was obvious that we need additional team members because several have moved. We would like to

invite YOU to become a part of this team! We need people willing to be activated at a moment’s notice. Some will be needed to man shifts overnight. We need people to help

with Registration, Guest Liaisons, Communications, Food, Security, Logistics, and First Aid. We can also use Spanish

speakers to interpret as needed. If you are interested in serving on this team, PLEASE contact Roxann Collins at

[email protected] or call the church office.
