TBDJ WINTER FILM FESTIVALSATURDAY, FEBRUARY 29 AT 8:00PM: “NUMBERED” (2012 - Israel)An estimated 400,000 numbers were tattooed in Auschwitz and its sub-camps.

“Numbered” documents the dark context in which these tattoos were injected, as well as the meaning the numbers took on in the years following World War II. In fact, this documentary’s main protagonists are the numbers themselves - as each evolves and becomes both a personal

and collective symbol for survivors of the Shoah from 1940 up to the present day. An explosive, highly visual and emotional cinematic journey created by “Know Productions.” 55 minutes.

TBDJ Welcomes Special Guest Lecturer RABBI DR. RAPHAEL SHUCHATMonday, February 17 at 7:45pmspeaking on the topic:The Vilna Gaon’s Understanding of Eretz Yisrael and RedemptionRabbi Dr. Raphael Shuchat was born in Montreal, received his rabbinical ordination from the Israeli Rabbinate and now lives in Yerushalayim. He has an MA in Jewish Thought from the Hebrew University and a PhD in Jewish Philosophy from Bar Ilan University. Rabbi Shuchat lectures at Bar Ilan’s School for Basic Jewish Studies as well as at Ariel University, and has published six books and over 40 academic articles. The draft of his book Olam Nistar- The Theory of Redemption in the writings of the Vilna Gaon won the Minister of Education prize in the late nineties. In 2016, Rabbi Schuchat received a grant from the Israel Science Foundation to further his ongoing research of the Vilna Gaon’s manuscripts and writings.

Please note that this lecture replaces our “Tanach B’Shnatayim” Shiur previously scheduled for this time slot. The series resumes on Monday, February 24 with Rabbi Freundlich teaching “Shoftim.”

“Gorf” is an American comic book creator and multimedia entertainment producer. He is also an a cappella singer, most notably with the groups Beat’achon and Kol Zimra, and produces music, videos, and live events.For most of the 1990s Gorfinkel guided the Batman

comics franchise at DC Comics, coordinating publications, licensing and productions for the DC Universe. In January 2019, Gorfinkel released the Passover Haggadah Graphic Novel with Israeli illustrator Erez Zadok, published by Koren Publishers Jerusalem.
