For the first time ever Vogue Knitters are finally going inside the sought after Koigu dye house to learn, explore, and breathe all things Koigu. From learning to dye your own yarn to exploring color with the famous Maie Landra, you will experience a breathtaking weekend overlooking beautiful Western Canadian scenery.

The Falls Inn and Spa

Overlooking Walter's Falls, this country-style hotel hosts cozy rooms every one with a balcony and waterfall views as well as en suite bathrooms with heated floors. Upgraded rooms and suites add desks, electric fireplaces and/or whirlpool tubs.An upscale, all-day restaurant with water views and a patio serves modern Canadian cuisine. Other amenities include a traditional bar, waterfalls and hiking trails. There's also a spa offering coffee body scrubs and French pedicures.

Koigu Wool Designs

The Koigu headquarters are located in Chatsworth a few hours outside of Toronto. Harry and Maie Landra purchased the farm in 1972, and though it was intended to be their weekend retreat, within a decade it became the family's permanent residence.Koigu Wool started out as a small operation with Maie hand spinning and dyeing the fleece from the Landra flock. The name Koigu was chosen to honor Harry's ancestral home in Estonia. Taiu helped her mother with the daily farm work, spinning and dyeing, and after graduating from University, put all of her energy into making the company economically viable.

In the end, the mother-daughter duo decided it was time to put the sheep to pasture and outsource their wool, working closely with a mill that would spin the fine merino to their specifications. The resulting yarn was Koigu's signature Premium Merino. This yarn was like nothing the knitting world had ever experienced before. Soft and light, the yarn became a superstar and demand skyrocketed. For

the first 5 years, KPPPM was produced in the Landra farmhouse kitchen, as the operation grew, it became necessary to build a 5500 square foot wool shed to house the yarn production.The business is constantly growing. Koigu has added 4 additional yarns to compliment their Premium Merino: Kersti, a DK weight crepe, Mori, wool /silk blend, Koigu Lace and Koigu Bulky. With demand as high as ever, the Koigu yarn is still dyed, hanked, labeled and shipped by the Landra women and a small handful of local employees. While they use the efficiency of machines where they can, every skein shipped from their warehouse is lovingly painted by technician and each dyelot a unique original.

Maie, Taiu, and Kersti LandraMaie Landra, founder of Koigu Wool Designs, has adegree from the Ontario College of Art in drawingand painting, and her watercolors have influencedthe Koigu colorways she has created over the year.Maie is also a gifted knitwear designer, regularfeatured in Vogue Knitting and other publications.Taiu, her youngest child, grew up helping with thefarm, spinning and dying and now runs thecompany, with her daughter Kersti also taking part.Koigu’s headquarters are in Chatsworth, Ontario,and even with demand as high as ever, the yarn isstill hand dyed, ranked, labeled, and shipped by theLandras and a few local employees. Each skein islovingly painted by a technician, and each dye lot is a unique original.

Color Workshop and Dye Workshop with KoiguDye Workshop with master dyer Taiu Landra-

Taiu will teach you everything there is to know about the intricacies of dying one of kind knitting yarn. You will see and learn everything from dyeing, drying, reeling, and the finished product. This will be a first hand opportunity to see how Koigu is made by the famous Taiu Landra. You will leave Koigu with your own yarn hand dyed by you.

Color Workshop with designer Maie Landra

Maie will take you into her world with a comprehensive workshop on design and color. You will learn how to she chooses what colors are complimentary, which colors do not work together and how she begins her design process. With a watercolor background, Maie is beyond knowledgeable when it comes to pairing colors. You will leave this class with a new appreciation for hand dyed yarns and all the history and thought that goes into each and every strand.
