THE WAY OF THE LORD

The Lord Jesus Christ opened for us the path to life

eternal. He unequivocally says: “I am the way and the

truth and the life!”(Jn. 14,6). Therefore, His path leads to

Life eternal. Each time when we deviate from His path,

which is “narrow” indeed, we are missing our direction.

Those who, in turn, seek the kingdom are in a permanent

struggle to stay on the way, to imitate Jesus. The ultimate

goal of Christian life is for us to become Christ-like and

acquire God’s Spirit.

In our times, when we were suddenly uprooted from

our liturgical rhythm by the pandemic, the risk of being

estranged from the way of Christ is impending. Let us

gain courage from the martyrs of the Church who teach

us the lesson of salvation. The Greek word martyr means

witness. We too are witnesses of Christ, except that they

shed their own blood for Him. In our Romanian

spirituality, the saintly king, Constantin Brâncoveanu

(+1714), stands as a brilliant example of true faith. He

was beheaded together with his four sons for refusing to

betray Christ and embrace Islam. He accepted this

suffering because he priced more the eternal life with

Christ than to glory in falsehood of this world. The book

of Revelation reminds us that the blood of the Lamb

purifies any stain. The blood of the martyrs come close to

Him. For us, today, it is essential to stand for way of

Christ and remain in the Church. Contemporary

martyrdom requires character and courage to witness and

live the faith, at any cost.

Are we ready for it or are we running because of the

fear of death. Let us remember the Lord reassurance: “I

am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me,

though he may die, he shall live” (Jn. 11,25). In these

days, nothing and no one guarantees our life and

especially life eternal, but the way of Christ.

SPIRITUAL CALENDAR: 11th Sunday after Pentecost.

CALEA DOMNULUI

Domnul Iisus Hristos ne-a deschis calea spre viața veșnică.

În mod neechivoc, El ne spune: “Eu sunt calea și adevărul

și viața” (In. 14,6). Așadar, calea Sa călăuzește spre viața

cea veșnică. De fiecare dată când ne abatem de la cărarea

Sa, care este “îngustă”, desigur, ne pierdem direcția. Însă

cei care caută Împărăția sunt într-o permanentă luptă ca să

rămână pe această cale, imitându-L pe Hristos. De altfel,

scopul final al vieții noastre creștine este acela de a deveni

ca Hristos și de a dobândi Duhul lui Dumnezeu.

În zilele noastre, fiind smulși dintr-odată de pandemie, din

ritmul liturgic cu care suntem deprinși, riscul de a ne

înstrăina de calea lui Hristos ne amenință. De aceea, să ne

întărim cu pilda martirilor, care ne învață lecția mântuirii.

În limba Greacă, cuvântul martir înseamnă “martor”. Și

noi suntem martori, cu excepția faptului că ei și-au vărsat

sângele pentru Hristos. În spiritualitatea românească,

Domnitorul Constantin Brâncoveanu (+1714) stă ca un

exemplu strălucitor de credință adevărată. Refuzând să

trădeze pe Hristos și să treacă la mohamedanism, el a fost

decapitat, alături de cei patru fii ai săi. El a prețuit mai mult

viața veșnică și, pentru aceasta, el a primit să sufere aici pe

pământ, refuzând falsa mărire a acestei lumi. Apocalipsa ne

amintește că sângele Mielului purifică păcatele. Sângele

mucenicilor, de asemenea. Pentru noi cei de azi este

esențial să rămânem pe calea lui Hristos, în Biserica Sa.

Martirajul contemporan implică mai ales caracterul și

curajul mărturisirii și al trăirii credinței, cu orice preț.

Oare suntem noi pregătiți, sau poate că noi fugim din cauza

fricii de moarte. Numai Domnul ne încredințează: “Eu sunt

calea, adevărul și viața” (In. 11,25). În aceste vremuri,

nimeni și nimic nu ne garantează viața și cu atât mai mult

cea veșnică, decât calea lui Hristos.

DRIVE-THRU FESTIVAL

This is the weekend of our Romanian

Festival. Never before have we had a

Drive-Thru edition. Because this is a new

experience, we hope all our parishioners

will support the parish in this activity. If

you are not a volunteer, please help us by

spreading the word. The flyer is on

Facebook and it was sent in our weekly

Bulletin. Please, copy and forward it to

your contacts. You may also help us by purchasing a pack of

delicious Romanian food for yourself and your family. With

God’s help and your support, we hope to make the best out of it!

Un Caz Umanitar:

MAICA TEODORA, Bolnavă

Maica Teodora este o talentată monahie,

care pictează icoane și care s-a

îmbolnăvit de Leucemie/Myelom

Multiplu, având nevoie de transplant de

măduvă. Activează în cadrul Episcopiei

noastră la Schitul de Maici Bunavestire

din Westville, Indiana. Este cunoscută

credincioșilor noștri deoarece a slujit

atât în Ellwood City, cât și în Rives

Junction la mănăstrile noastre de femei.

Dorința Măicuței Teodora a fost aceea

de a construi schitul “cu vârful

penelului”. Însă vopselele și mirosurile

nocive i-au afectat sănătatea. Va fi spitalizată între 5

august și 15 septembrie în vederea tratamentului, care

pentru ea înseamnă viața. După aceea, va urma o lungă

recuperare, de peste un an. În acest timp, Măicuța

Teodora are lipsuri, biluri și nevoile de zi cu zi.

Cuvioșia Sa face un apel călduros la credincioșii de

pretutindeni pentru ajutorul nostru. Vă transmitem acest

apel în speranța că veți trimite, după puteri, un semn de

Received into the Church

Stephen Addison Loesch, formerly an

Episcopalian, was received into the

Orthodox Church through the Holy

Sacrament of Chrismation, by Fr. Remus

Grama, Sunday, August 16, 2020.

Stephen will be married in our church in

October to Alexandra Maria Badea.

Godparents: Lavinius and Cristina Giuglea.

CHURCH TOUR Two groups of visitors have toured our church, Tuesday

and Wednesday, August 18-19, with JKL Tours. Father

Remus Grama explained the meaning of our mural

iconography to them. Due to the pandemic the museum

is currently closed to visitors. Our visitors had to

comply with CDC rules.

A Humanitarian Case:

MOTHER THEODORA, Sick

The Reverend Mother Theodora is a

talented nun who writes icons and who is

sick with Leukemia/Multiple Myeloma.

Now she is need of marrow transplant.

She dwells in our Episcopate at the

Hermitage of Annunciation, Westville,

Indiana. She is known to our faithful

since she served at our two women’s

monasteries in Ellwood City and Rives

Junction. The wish of Mother Theodora

was “to build a Hermitage one brush-tip

at the time.” Unfortunately, the paints

and varnishes affect her immunity. She

will be hospitalized from August 5 till September 15 for

this treatment which for her means her life. Following this

there will be a long recovery time. In all this time, Mother

Theodora has many needs for her bills and day-to-day

needs.

She launched a warm appeal for help to the faithful

allover. We are passing her pleading in the hope that you

will send, according to your possibilities, a sign of

encouragement and Christian charity, at the address:

PRAYER BEFORE BEGINNING A TASK

Lord Jesus Christ, only-begotten Son of the eter-

nal Father, you said through your prophet David:

Man goes out to work and to labor until dusk.

Through the mouth of the blessed apostle Paul

you said: He who does not work, shall not eat.

And from your own most pure lips you said: With-

out me you can do nothing. I have listened to your

divine words with my whole soul and heart. O

Lord, and I turn to your goodness in humility.

Send your grace to help me, a sinner, to that I may

complete the work which I now begin, in the

name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy

Spirit. Amen!

PRAYER UPON COMPLETING A TASK

O, Lord Jesus Christ our God, the God of com-

passion and patience, whose mercy is without

measure and whose love for mankind is endless

and indescribable, I fall before your glory to of-

fer you thanks for the good things you have

given me, your unworthy servant. I glorify and

praise you in song, the only Lord, Master and

Creator of all which is good; and again, bowing

before you, I humbly thank you and call upon

your immeasurable and unspeakable loving

kindness from this time forth, bestow your good

will upon me so that I may love you and my

neighbor even more. Deliver me from all evil

and danger. Grant me peace and calm. Make me

worthy all the days of my life to offer you

thanks, that I may proclaim and sing to you: Fa-

ther, Son and Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto
