SUMMER MISSION APPEAL 2017

Fr. Lucas Thumma, From India, will make a Mission Appeal here at St. Kilian for his Mission Diocese, Salem, India, on August 5/6, 2017.

Fr. Thumma is an Asian Indian, 69 years young, and has served as a priest for 41 years,

having been ordained to the priesthood on June 29, 1976. His ancestors were Hindus. His family converted to Catholic Christianity 120 years ago. Fr. Thumma has worked and

ministered in the mission parishes, as Director of Social Service. He served in the Diocese of San Diego, California as an Associate Pastor for 9 years. Mission is his life theme.

Salem is a Latin Catholic Diocese with a total population of 5.2 million people. The

Catholic population is only 90,000(1%), scattered in and around 400 villages and 10 small towns. The motto of the diocese is: “That all may have life and have it abundantly.” (John

10:10) Sixty percent of the Catholics are from the lower caste group, historically deprived and economically downtrodden. In the past they were called “untouchables”.

To help them improve their lives, the Diocese gives financial aid for education of the economically poor children, medical help and housing assistance. Envelopes are in the

pews or checks can be made to St. Kilian Church with “mission appeal” in the memo line.

SANTA ANA SOUP KITCHEN “Amen, I say to you, whatsoever you do for one of these least brothers of mine, you do for Me,”

Once each month, our crew from St. Kilian Church collects food items donated by our generous parishioners to take to the Santa Ana Soup Kitchen where we serve a delicious hot lunch to folks

who live in Santa Ana. We vary the lunch menu from month to month for variety. We serve about 60-70 lunches to our guests….men, women and a few children. Some of the folks are homeless,

some are not and they are grateful to sit down to a good lunch, enjoy some conversation with us and even pray with us.

If you would like to donate food items to help us feed God’s children, please check our sign up board located in front of the Parish Hall. We need to have all donations at the Church by 10am on the 1st

Saturday of the month. Thank you for your caring and generosity. If you have any questions, please call Mary Curtis at 949-454-0811.
