Project Background

• Grantor is the U.S. Department of Education through the Title VI Business and International Education (BIE) program

• Grant was awarded in April 2008– 23 institutions were awarded– 6 were community colleges– 3 were in Virginia (TCC, RU, and VCU)

• Project schedule begins in August 2008 and ends in August 2010

• Project staff include:– Jim Roberts, Sean LaCroix, and Jeanne Natali

Project Objectives

Create professionaldevelopment program

for faculty including curriculum development

seminars

Develop/Market Optional Global Business Emphasis within TCC’s Business Administration

Program

Disseminate best practices to build

and maintain global business practices

to the VCCS

Objective #1: Develop the capacity of faculty to convey international business content to students

Overarching Goal

To produce business program graduates that are better

prepared to compete in an increasingly global world.

Faculty Participant Responsibilities

1Seminars include speakers from

around U.S. and provide participants tools to study global

issues.

2Participants will produce content

that will enhance student exposure to global issues.

Evaluate peer educational modules3

Participants will evaluate peer educational modules and provide

anonymous feedback.

Consider using educational modules in courses4

Final modules will be housed in repository and accessible by all

faculty.

Participants earn $500 in special pay after completion of

these steps

Consider participation in faculty exchange program5

Some participants will visit Brazil (2009) or China (2010) for a

faculty exchange.

Attend four Globalization Seminars

Produce a globalization education module

Student Participant Responsibilities

Enroll in and meet requirements of ECO 2951

Students will attend seminars where speakers from around U.S. and provide participants tools to study

global issues.2

Students will produce a final presentation or paper on a global issue.

Produce capstone globalization project3

*Eight students will be selected to enroll. Students will earn 3 credits for course work including delivered

online and during Globalization modules.

Students will travel to Brazil 4

Students will accompany 6 faculty members on two week exchange to Joinville Brazil and

surrounding areas.

Attend three globalization seminars

Faculty and Student Exchanges

Six faculty and six students will undertake a college funded

twelve day exchange to Brazil.

Some of that time will be spent with our partners, faculty and

students from Univille University.

The remainder of the time will be spent immersing ourselves in

Brazilian culture and economy.
