Parent Mentor Available to Assist with IEP
or Special Education Concerns
Did you know that Solon has a Parent Mentor
to help support families with students on IEPs?
Our district Parent Mentor, Annie Dellamorte,
answers questions and helps guide families
through the special education process, helps
families understand their rights and
responsibilities, provides information and
connections to resources, attends IEP meetings
upon request by either the family or the school,
helps families plan and prepare for IEP team
meetings, and much more. All services are free
of charge and confidential.
If you have questions about your IEP or believe
your student may be struggling with a learning
disability, please contact Annie Dellamorte at
[email protected] or 440-349-
8039.
The Roxbury
Work Room Needs YOU! We are looking for at least one or two volunteers per grade level to help make copies for teachers weekly throughout the year. Volunteering in the Work Room is a great way to help support Roxbury staff while still allowing you the flexibility to work around your schedule. If you can donate 1-2 hours per week, at your availability, to the Work Room please email [email protected].
Solon Organized Parent Education Network (OPEN)
COMING SOON: September 26th OPEN Presents: Mindfulness and Yoga
in Solon City Schools
Certainly, you’ve heard about it on TV or read about it on the internet: mindfulness. But what exactly is it? Is it just a trendy new buzz word or can it really benefit our kids? Does Solon incorporate mindfulness into our classrooms? Is it the same as yoga? The truth is, Solon is teaching your children mindfulness from kindergarten up.
Please join us as OPEN welcomes Solon’s own, Missy FitzGerald, as she answers all our questions and more! Mrs. FitzGerald is a teacher at SHS and is the head of the district’s Mindfulness Initiative. She will share with us the district’s vision for mindfulness in classrooms and how we can also support mindfulness in our families at home.
And, be sure to check out the dates for ALL of the Solon OPEN events for the 2018-2019
school year at the end of the newsletter.
And, please share with your friends;

Crayola ColorCycle
Program
Roxbury Elementary is now
participating in Crayola ColorCycle, a
program to recycle used markers!
If you have dry or used markers (of any
brand or kind, including highlighters,
permanent, etc.), please drop them off at
the school anytime (a box is in the art
room) or you can send with your child
(please label them Markers for Recycling).
These markers will be collected and shipped
for recycling, which saves them from ending
up in the landfill. If you have any questions,
please contact Lydia Kruse
Thank you for your participation!
The R Factor
Starting in Kindergarten, Roxbury staff teaches students about the R Factor and its related disciplines. Your students will
learn about the R Factor via Mindset Monday and other grade level or
classroom activities. They will be able to talk about this and give examples that are
age appropriate.
Mrs. Westendorf, Roxbury School Counselor, provided some materials for
parents, which are included at the end of this newsletter. If you have questions,
you can email her at [email protected].
Roxbury Elementary is available for order!
See the form at the end of this newsletter for ordering information.
Volunteering at Roxbury
If you are interested in volunteering, in any capacity, please email Becky Utterback at [email protected].
There is a place for everyone. Working parents and ones who stay home, we are always willing to enlist a helping hand; we appreciate your help!

Roxbury Fundraiser
The PTA spends, on average, about $30 per child each school year, and we work with a modest budget to fund all the fun events for our kids throughout the school year, including COSI on Wheels, Family Fun Night, EWOW, Fall Fest, Art Show, Fourth Grade Year-end Party, Field Day, and much more. So ensuring we have a successful fundraiser is crucial to maintain the quality of the programs and events we offer.
Thanks to everyone who participated in our Mumkins & Mumsters fundraiser this month!
If you’d still like to contribute to our fundraiser, please consider a direct donation. Direct donations are gratefully accepted and 100% of these proceeds go back to our kids. Make checks payable to Roxbury PTA. It's that easy. (For your convenience, feel free to use the bottom portion to submit your donation.) Thanks in advance for your participation! We’re looking forward to scheduling great student programs for this year. Feel free to contact me with any questions. Jill Kopittke – Fundraising Chair - [email protected]

IMPORTANT INFORMATION & REMINDERS
Photo ID: It is now policy to present a photo ID when you come into the school. Please refer to the Family Handbook for further information.
School Dismissal
• Car Pickup: Please remember to enter Solon Blvd from Arthur Road instead of Inwood Dr. That way the car pickup line can be on the same side of the street as the school and no one needs to turn left into the school. This will help with the traffic flow after school.
• Walkers: Please remember to pick up your students either across Solon Blvd or at the Roxbury School sign. The teachers are responsible for getting the students to the sign and will not release them to parents standing at the door.
• After School Care Centers: Please remember to contact your after-school care centers with your changes in dismissal plans. The centers tend to call the schools when a child does not arrive as scheduled.
Facebook: If you are on Facebook, please consider joining the Roxbury PTA group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/RoxburyPTASolon/). We will post our sign-ups on this group when we are looking for volunteers. For the safety and privacy of our children, only Roxbury families will be permitted in this group. If you send a request to join and are not approved right away, check your Facebook messages. We will be double-checking all new member requests to ensure that they have children at Roxbury.
Yearbook: If you take photos at any school event, please send them to [email protected] to be included in the yearbook. We would like to have as many kids represented in the yearbook as we can!
Parking: When coming to school, please do not park in the front drive before 8am or after 2pm. Please park in the side lot or on the side ABC streets. Please do not park on Solon Blvd in front of the school at any time.
Birthday Policy: Treats and trinkets will no longer be allowed to be brought in to celebrate your child’s birthday. The school is recommending that you send in a book for your teacher’s classroom library. Please refer to your Family Handbook for further information.
Doctor/Dentist Appointments: Please remember to bring a note from your child’s doctor/dentist if your child will be missing any part of the school day.
