David Joe Miller dropped in to Trader Joe's to

pick up a few things for Jimmy Neil Smith, he mainly

eats frozen meals that he can microwave and Trader Joe's

has a few, very few, that are healthy(er) than most.

He was wearing a tee shirt from East Tennessee

Hemp Company, a new hemp store located on Main St.

in Jonesborough.

The older gentleman at the check-out asked

where East TN Hemp Co. was located, and he told him

"Jonesborough." Both he and the young man who was

bagging, spoke up that they "LOVED Jonesborough" and

asked, did David Joe know about the big storytelling

"thing” that was held there.

Well I, of course, David Joe opened up a bit...

told them he was a storyteller and used to work for the

festival and such.

Then the older gentleman said he knows a

professional storyteller named Gwenda. David Joe said,

"Gwenda Ledbetter" and he beamed. YES! She's

a dear!

The younger man piped up that he

LOVED storytelling!

Of course, David Joe opened up a bit more... and told them about Gwenda's show, "Tales From

and Beyond The Red Rocker" at Pack Memorial Library on Saturday September 8th at 2pm! WOW!

FREE! and sponsored by the Friends of the Buncombe County Library, The North Carolina Room at

Pack and Mr. & Mrs. David Joe Miller!

Now the people in the other aisles were paying attention! STORYTELLING! GWENDA

LEDBETTER! PACK LIBRARY! SATURDAY SEPT. 8th, 2pm!

Three other people joined in the conversation, at the check-out... at Trader Joe's. Another

employee, who has been to many Word shows, walked up and inserted her comments into the

conversation, basically saying that, "if David Joe Miller is putting on the show, it's BOUND to be

GREAT!"

David Joe’s glad he decided to wear that East Tennessee Hemp Company tee shirt that

morning. It's comfortable!

I am delighted that my “Taking Your Story to the Stage” workshop has been so popular. Since I was not able to

accommodate everyone this time around, I am already confirming the dates for my late fall one, November 30-

December 2, 2018. Let me know if you want to be penciled in to participate and be featured at the Saturday evening

“Slice of Life” performance!

A Reminder from Charlie St. Clair

Welcome Back!

Do you know who this lovely woman is? She is one of the kindest, most

generous, and thoughtful people you could ever meet. It is highly possible that

you’ve received a card from her for your birthday or to get well or in sympathy.

You may know her as the good clown, Nutmeg. She is a devoted story listener

and sometimes can be coaxed to tell a tale of her own. She spent lots of time

telling tales to children as a teaching assistant at Old Fort School. She is known

for her walnut pound cake, her ever-present smile, and the good cheer she brings

everywhere she goes. Have you figured it out yet?

Guess Who This Is?

This year's annual picnic is scheduled for Sunday, August 19 at Lake Julian Park,

Picnic Shelter 6.

We will gather around 3:00, eat around 4:00, stories start around 5:00. Public is

invited to the stories. (Actually, anyone can come as anyone's guest).

We will have a sign-up sheet at our next meeting, Monday, July 16 for what people

are bringing.

ASC will provide meat (ham, either turkey or chicken), drinks, ice, plates and

plastic ware.

Note: Picnic Shelter 6 is NOT at the large Lake Julian area off Long Shoals road. It

is in a smaller area accessed off Hendersonville Road.

Dear Guild Members, We need a good attendance for the NCSG Festival!

ASC Meeting Time

The Asheville Storytelling Circle meets at 7:00 pm

on the third Monday of each month except August and January at Asheville Terrace, 200 Tunnel Rd. in Asheville.

Mission Statement

To affirm our various cultures, nourish the development of emerging and established artists, and promote excellence in the oral traditions.

Visit Our Website

www.ashevillestorycircle.org

1. Keep your introduction short. Why keep it short? Because we want to make sure we have as

much time as possible for stories.

2. Stories should be around ten minutes. Longer stories can be shared, if time permits. Even if you

are working on a story, you should have some idea of how long it takes.

3. Time is precious, and we want as many people as possible to be able to share. If time runs out

and not everyone who has signed-up is able to tell a story, they will go to the front of the line for

the next month.
