Liz Maxwell President MV AGUSTA RETURNS TO THE WORLD PODIUM AFTER 37 YEARS Thirty-seven years after Giacomo Agostini obtained his last great success at the Nürburgring circuit, MV Agusta returns to the world podium. The MV Agusta F3 675 in the hands of the ParkinGo team came in third during this year’s Supersport debut at the difficult Donington track in England, the fifth stage of the World Supersport championship competition. This amazing comeback was achieved by Roberto Rolfo who, starting 16th on the grid, advanced continuously to third place, which he then defended with relative ease. At certain points in the race, the powerful Turin born rider was the fastest on the track showing his tremendous talent, as well as the bike’s great potential. Rider Christian Iddon, the other member of the team, could have done an equally brilliant job had he not been the innocent victim of an episode in which, in the early part of the race, his bike was touched by another rider when he was fighting for a podium position. Giovanni Castiglioni, President and CEO of MV Agusta, commented on the podium achievement saying: “I am delighted and thrilled with this first podium result for the F3 675! It has been a great challenge to bring this important brand back on the race track. The amazing thing is that this podium was conquered on the same day as the Claudio Castiglioni Memorial organised by the Lombardia Moto Club Cagiva yesterday at our plant in Schiranna. I would like to dedicate this success to my father, the man from whom we inherited our great passion for racing. My gratitude goes to the Rovelli brothers and the members of the ParkinGo team for the amazing effort they are putting in to this project. There is still much work to be done and they have all our support!” Roberto Rolfo declared: “I am truly pleased with this bike, it’s perfect, and the work done by the team, which was impeccable. I’m really sorry I made mistakes during the qualifying on Saturday. If I had been able to start further towards the front perhaps I wouldn’t have had the chance to get to first place anyway, but I sure would have had an easier time of it during the race, perhaps even made it one step higher on the podium. I promised everyone a comeback yesterday, but even I didn’t expect this fantastic result! No doubt, its thanks in great part to perfect team work. Without them we wouldn’t have been able to get to this level in such a short amount of time.” For contact details and other information - www.mvagusta.co.nz July 2013 - MV Agusta - Beretta New Zealand - Alfa Romeo Disco Volante by Touring Design Award - Antonio’s Grand Tour of Italy - Fiat 500 Pop - Moto Guzzi – Scottish Star teams with Italian Eagle - Manageritalia - Auckland Business Breakfasts - Ultimate Espresso – Lavazza Offer - 68th International Dairy Cattle Show, Cremona New Members - Fiat Chrysler NZ Limited - MacPherson Architecture Limited Newsletter can also be viewed online www.iccnz.com

MV AGUSTA RETURNS TO THE WORLD PODIUM AFTER 37 YEARS

Thirty-seven years after Giacomo Agostini obtained his last great success at the Nürburgring circuit, MV Agusta returns to the world podium. The MV Agusta F3 675 in the hands of the ParkinGo team came in third during this year’s Supersport debut at the difficult Donington track in England, the fifth stage of the World Supersport championship competition. Fabbrica d’Armi Pietro Beretta S.p.A. is an Italian company born of the dream and dedication of a renaissance craftsman. One of the oldest firearms manufacturers in the world, Beretta has been passed down through 15 generations of the Beretta family and is still run today as a family business.

Thanks to the courage, vision and skills of its long lineage, Beretta’s name has earned international status for its technology driven innovation, performance and for the Italian style that distinguishes its products. Beretta New Zealand is the local distributor of the range of Beretta products which has grown to include clothing, Sako and Tikka Finnish made rifles, Steiner German made binoculars, Burris hunting optics and Benelli shotguns.

Clay target shooting is a growing sport in New Zealand with many of our competitive shooters claiming regional and world titles in the last few years.

While deer hunting and duck shooting have always been popular, pheasant shooting is also gaining in popularity. This has been driven in part by the investment in well managed estates who have managed to replicate authenticate English experiences in the beauty of the New Zealand countryside. A very social occasion, the charm of the attire and the conviviality of the shared elevenses and lunches is balanced by the focus and determination of the hunters who enjoy the challenge of this unique shooting experience.

Beretta products are available throughout New Zealand. Visit our web site for stockist details and for more information on driven shooting. www.berettanewzealand.com

ALFA ROMEO TAKES TOP PRIZE AT THE CONCORSO DI ELEGANZA DI VILLA D'ESTE

The public at the 2013 Concorso di Eleganza di Villa d'Este names the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante by Touring as the best prototype.

The design pays homage to the Alfa Romeo 1900 C52 designed in 1952 by the same Milan coachbuilder.

Built on the platform of the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, with which it shares chassis and engine.

The two-seater coupé features a 450 HP, 4.7-litre V8 with 480 Nm of maximum torque.

Made to order and takes more than 4000 hours to build.

Last year the same title went to the Alfa Romeo 4C.

The Concorso di Eleganza di Villa d'Este, Europe’s leading classic and historic car event, has named the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante as the best concept car in a vote by all the people attending the event.

Designed and built by Touring, this two-seater coupé was crafted by the Milan-based car coachbuilder on the base of the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione and shares its chassis and engine.

The car pays homage to the Alfa Romeo 1900 C52 “Disco Volante”, a coupé with unique characteristics that sees its 60th anniversary this year. Designed by Carrozzeria Touring in 1952, the C52 boasted the characteristics of extremely light weight and aerodynamic efficiency, making a great impact in the collective imagination and earning itself the nickname of ‘Disco Volante’ (Flying Saucer). It immediately became an icon of automotive design.

This alluring car blends aesthetic quality, sporty highlights and the search for the essential, as well as employing cutting-edge materials (carbon fibre and aluminium) for minimal weight. Each example requires more than 4000 hours of highly qualified labour, and is built only on request: car number 01 was on show at the Concorso. Another two will shortly be completed.

The backbone of the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante by Touring is the chassis of the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, selected for its light, rigid structure, perfect as the basis for redesigning a high-performance car. In detail, the architecture features a mid-front engine, transaxle gearbox and rear-wheel drive: this layout offers an optimal 49-51% load distribution between the front and rear ends. It features double-wishbone suspension, with forged aluminium uprights and supports and additional strut at the rear for toe-in control.

The compact, light engine is a 450 HP, 4.7-litre V8 with 480 Nm of torque. The gearbox is electrically operated with six speed and paddle control, while the limited-slip differential and self-ventilating brakes are marked by their generous dimensions. With this equipment, the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante by Touring accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 4.2 seconds and reaches 180 mph.

This is the second time in a row that Alfa Romeo has earned the prestigious ‘Design Award for Concept Cars & Prototypes’ from the Concorso di Eleganza di Villa d'Este: in the 2012 event, the public bestowed the accolade on the Alfa Romeo 4C, the compact supercar born from the brand’s experience with the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione and the 8C Spider.

SCOTTISH STAR TEAMS WITH ITALIAN EAGLE

Scottish actor and major Hollywood star Ewan McGregor’s fascination with motorcycles and two-wheeled adventures has been well documented in the road movies “The Long Way Round” and “The Long Way Down” with adventurer Charley Boorman. What is not so well known is that McGregor is a died-in-the-wool fan of Moto Guzzi motorcycles. In fact, while filming “The Long Way Down,” the Hollywood star persuaded his team to take a break in northern Italy to allow him the opportunity to visit the historic Moto Guzzi factory and museum at Mandello del Lario on the shores of Lake Como. In the documentary, McGregor detailed his fascination for the historic Italian marque, which won 45 World Championship grands prix and seven constructor’s championships until its withdrawal from grand prix racing in 1957. By then, Moto Guzzi had produced the most exotic GP race bike ever seen, the fantastic Otto Cilindri 500cc V8 capable of speeds of up to 280 km/h in 1957. It was to be 20 years before that figure was again reached in GP racing.

McGregor’s fascination with the Italian brand is deep-rooted: he owns no less than ten of the V-twin machines and a few months after completing “The Long Way Down” he turned up at Mandello del Lario for the 2007 World Moto Guzzi Days and returned to London astride a new white California Vintage. Now, in a major coup, McGregor has agreed to lend his name to the promotion of the historic Moto Guzzi brand. This is the first time that a Hollywood star of this calibre has lent his face to a motorcycle manufacturer for an advertising campaign featuring the new 2013 Moto Guzzi California 1400. The campaign is entitled “My Bike, My Pride” and the photo shoots were set in exotic Western Australia over a weekend in March when McGregor took time out from the filming of his next movie, “Son of Gun.” Italian photographer Paolo Zambaldi and his team met McGregor with the 1400 ‘Guzzi at Lancelin, a fishing village 110 km north of Perth for the first day and got footage of the Scotsman riding in the town as well as on the coast, with tall white sand dunes dominating the background. The following day the port of Fremantle – scene of the first challenge for the Americas Cup outside of New York in 132 years – was the backdrop for Zambaldi’s cameras, with the long black shape of the California Custom 1400 meeting McGregor. Finally, the closing shots were set against Perth’s night skyline. ”I'm proud to have starred in this advertising campaign, “ says McGregor. “I think we have really done something unique and great. I liked the new California 1400 straight away, from the first time I saw it. Then it surprised me when I rode it. It is from another planet... truly surprising! And this is coming from someone who knows Moto Guzzi, if you consider that my ten Moto Guzzis include models like the 1971 V7 Ambassador, the 1972 V7 Sport, the 1974 V7 Eldorado, the 2000 V11, the 2001 V11 Tenni, the 2009 California Vintage with a sidecar… and very soon a California 1400 Custom!” The “My Bike, My Pride” advertising campaign has now been launched in Europe and it will be carried in the press and on the websites of all the major lifestyle and specialised periodicals with the highest advertising budget ever allocated by the Piaggio Group for the Moto Guzzi brand. The advertising campaign was handled by The Ad Store Italia agency.

The Lavazza Story The Lavazza story began in 1895 in a little grocery store at No.10 San Tommaso in the historic district of Turin, Northern Italy. The man who conceived the concept that would become Italy’s Favourite Coffee was a young and passionate grocer, Luigi Lavazza. It was from this humble store that Luigi pioneered the art of blending coffee beans, a technique designed to provide his customers with a richer range of blends and tastes than the single origin varieties his competitors were selling. It was the first of many innovations from Lavazza that have helped create a coffee culture beyond Italy to all corners of the world. Today, over 70% of Italian families choose Lavazza, and Lavazza remains one of the leading brands in the global coffee market.
