ARTMATTERS: SURREALISMTuesday, November 6th, 1pmWhat is real? What is a dream, a nightmare, a fantasy? Many artists make visual what many can only imagine. MVES works one-on-one with adults 60+ and adults of all ages living with disabilities to connect you to services that support your health, well-being, and independence. They provide care management, coordinate services and refer you to appropriate healthcare and home care providers. Many of the services are free or low-cost, depending on your income. ASK THE NURSE I am a senior and I have been feeling sad and disconnected. I would like to make new friends, learn something new and feel good about myself. I am shy and do not know where to begin. Can you help me?

You have come to the right place! Staying vital and connected can help you ward off the depression that often comes with aging. When your children are grown and on their own and not need you quite as often or you are retired from your job, you may find yourself struggling a bit to stay busy and engaged, you just might feel depressed.

Your Senior Center is the answer! Senior Centers offer a variety classes from crafts and hobbies to computer classes to keep your mind interested and active. An opportunity to meet and make new friends with common interests. A walking club is great fun. Exercise is essential for both the body and mind. Go for that walk or join a senior exercise class, remember just keep moving.

Senior Centers are the best kept secret. Participation in creative endeavors can greatly benefit both physical and mental health for seniors. You can tap into creative efforts through movement, art, writing, knitting, crocheting, cross stitch, join a choral group or just by trying something new. Let’s not keep our Senior Center a secret. Spread the word, you will not only help other seniors maintain their mental health but also maximize social relationships and you my friend will find your inner spark.

And now Dear Reader go find the best kept secret in Town and find your inner spark. You may just want to have that cup of tea while deciding which creative adventure you are about to join.

Peg Drummey, Stoneham Board of Health Nurse, answers your questions on health. To submit a question, check at the front desk or email [email protected].
