2. The Family Concept……how it was formed…….


The Bangalore Quiz Group has handled the Quiz Club of Bethany High, Koramangala since 2007.

It puts the passion of quizzing into Bethany High Quiz Club children from 2nd standard to 7th standard.

Over the years we have noticed that……..


…..family sizes have tended to become small and often the child is a single child.

……both parents work and the child is often left to fend for himself or herself for large periods of time.

……the child invariably takes recourse to TV and spends (too) many hours a day watching it.


…..invariably these TV sessions are accompanied by snacks and junk food and colas that pump unhealthy calories into children. Intellectual growth suffers.……most children today do not have many friends and do not participate in vigorous physical activity. …. This leads to many children becoming obese.


…..parents are stressed out at work and working hours have lengthened.

….they return home tired and in most cases, though they would like to spend quality time with their children, this does not happen.

….quality time tends to be defined as a family outing to the mall etc.

….very little time is devoted to learning, to keeping up with current affairs etc.


The Bangalore Quiz Group therefore came up with this innovative program that would help in family bonding and create intellectual stimulation for the entire family.

We called it The Family Pack.


3. How The Family Pack works.


Three to four times a week, a quiz containing ten questions (and answers) is emailed to the family.


The questions are selected in such a manner as to:

a. Be very interesting.b. Have a mix of questions relating to current affairs,

GK, etc.c. Be targeted at the entire family.


The Family Pack is meant for families with children between

2nd standard and 12th standard.


This means that for small children, the parent(s) act ashelpers, translators etc. so that the child understands

the question and is able to relate to the answer.


For example:


The question reads:

This lady's husband had a factory making cars but they were not

selling well, because at that time, people were new to cars and did not

have much faith in them. On 6th August 1888, this lady took one of

her husband's cars (without telling him) and became the first person

in the world to drive an automobile over a long distance, which

Brought it world-wide attention. The car then started selling very well.

Guess who she was?


The family is advised to debate the answer and come with as many creative (or out-of-the-box) solutions before referring to the answer.)

The answer: This lady was Bertha Benz, wife of Karl Benz, and the trip helped start selling the Benz cars.


Here’s another interesting question that is also basedOn Mercedes cars.

The cars are named after a girl called Mercedes. However, this girl was not related to either Karl Benz

or Daimler. Why did they call the cars Mercedes (and

still continue the tradition to this day?)


Check out the answer by following the above procedure:

trying to come up with as many creative answers as possible. Then look up the answer using Google.

You will find that when knowledge becomes fun this way, the children tend to remember it much longer.It also inspires them to search out other similar questions.


4. The costs


The cost is Rupees 1800 (US$ 50) for 180 quizzes.

Quizzes are numbered. If your subscription starts at quiz #

200, your last quiz will be # 379.

Since quizzes come three to four times a week, that’s approximately a one year duration.
