A REPORT ON A VISIT TO A SILK MARK EXPO IN

PUNE

INTRODUCTION

As per the requirement of our syllabus, we the class of second year B.Sc

Zoology, on the 28th

of January 2011, headed by our Department head Dr.Susan

Thomas and our class teacher Ms. Snober Bhatt, had gone on a educational visitto “A Silk Mark Expo” with regard to the topic Sericulture.

This expo was held in the Sonal Hall, in Karve road, Pune as seen in the map

below:

This event was conducted by the Silk Mark Organization of India, in

collaboration with the Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles and the Government

of India.

The visit details are as follows:

On entering the expo we were led to the section where the silk worms

and the cocoons were placed for learning purposes and or demonstration

purposes.

This picture shows the different types of cocoons made by silk

worms and also the type of silk thread it produces.



In the picture above we can see a silk worm that is in the process of

forming a cocoon.

Above, we can see the silk worms which are white in colour amidst the

mulberry leaves.



The picture above is a picture of an immature pupa taken out of the cocoon.

As this was a sale of 100% original silk, the crowd was enormous.



Silk traders from various parts of the country came to take part in this

exhibition with their various products like sarees, cushions, pillow cases, bed

sheets, bags, shirts etc…..



CONCLUSION

Silk Mark Organisation of India is a Society which has brought out Silk

Mark - a quality assurance label for Silk. It is a Society backed by Central Silk

Board, an Apex body for development of silk and silk industry in India.

Silk Mark Organisation of India has competent textile experts having

expertise in silk testing and having industry experience behind them.

Silk Mark Organization not only checks the quality of silk but also helps

the sericulture industry by improving the technique of rearing of silk worms and

also helps to preserve the high quality of silk production, which in turn helps to

improve the annual income of the silk industry.
