The Nativity of Saint John the Baptist

God loves infinite variety. God creates every human person as an unrepeatable being, each with a distinct purpose in

life. Today, on the feast of John the Baptist, we praise God for creating this one-of-a-kind powerhouse prophet and preacher. Maybe some of us share personality traits with John the Baptist. Or maybe we couldn't be more unlike

him. God will use whatever gifts we have, bold or discreet. God wants salvation to "reach to the ends of the earth," as today's reading from Isaiah says, so we can all find a way to serve the Lord. Nothing less than the salvation of the

world is at stake; we have received the "word of salvation," Saint Paul says in the Acts of the Apostles.

Today's feast is a perfect time to ask the Lord what gifts we have, and how we can use them to share the love of

Jesus.

The Nativity of St. John the Baptist June 24, 2018

JMJ June 24, 2018

My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always. Happy Feast of the Birth of St. John the Baptist. Today marks the nativity of the “Voice” crying out in the wilderness to prepare the way of the Lord and make straight the paths for the Messiah to enter into our hearts. This is a timeless reminder for us to be consistent in continually engaging our faith and praying for the grace to keep up the struggle against our human tendencies that separate us from our loving God. It is also a timely reminder to come to the Eucharist – to Sunday Mass so that we can encounter our Lord Jesus and be transformed by the grace we are given to be a living loving Christian witness to our family and others. We acknowledge today the efforts of our Brother Knights in their Charity Golf Event to raise funds for the charitable institutions they support to which our parish is first and foremost. We also join our brothers and sisters who are walking for Immigration and the prayers offered at the Mass for those whose are affected by this concern to be held at the Cathedral of Los Angeles. We shall also in the next few weeks our Annual Backyard Theology that is a wonderful opportunity for fellowship and learning about our faith-life and topics that concern us. We shall also have a short visit from Fr. Marc Boisvert whose Free the Kids our parish has helped through these years. This is just to name a few of the opportunities for us to be engaged in our faith – yes even during the summer months. May I also remind everyone of our continuing journey “500 to 40.” In an effort to meaningfully celebrate this milestone in our Parish Family life we have the 4th Annual Camino de Santiago – “Along the Way” to celebrate the Feast of our Patron St. James the Great and our heritage of being named after the great pilgrimage site in Spain. We have also started the portrait photography for our

40th Commemorative Book – let us do our part to mark our anniversary with keepsake. Thank you for your continued support of our parish, the events that we organize, your generous response to those in need like the Catholic Relief Services and St Peter’s Pence this weekend. Let us be reminded of the “widow’s mite” that it is not in the amount give we but in the love with which we share our gifts to others that Christ acknowledges. God bless and take care. Love and prayers,

Fr.

Padre Thomas Paul K. Naval

CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES COLLECTION AND THE PETER’S PENCE COLLECTION

JUNE 23RD AND 24TH Our Universal Church collection will this weekend. This special collection combines the Catholic Relief Services Collection and the Peter’s Pence Collection.

The mission of Catholic Relief Services is to assist the poor and disadvantaged by alleviating human suffering, promoting development of all people, and fostering charity and justice internationally. CRS aids the poor by first providing direct assistance where needed, and then encouraging these people to help with their own development.

Peter’s Pence Collection gives us an opportunity to be a witness of charity to our brothers around the world. It promotes and supports the works of our Holy Father, enabling him to respond with emergency financial assistance to victims of war, natural disasters, and others most in need of assistance. Thank you for your support and generosity of all these collections in the midst of the many other demands.

Mark your calendar and save the date. Fr. Marc Boisvert from FREE THE KIDS, ministry supporting Project Espwa the Haitian orphanage, will again be at our Masses on Saturday, July 7th and Sunday, July 8th.
