Cornwall’s Most BeautifulBeaches admin Beaches, Cornwall

January 25, 2015 0 Comment

Page 28: A sensational web site packed with information for Cornwall holidays

Cornwall has the most beautiful beaches in the world. There I said it. I know this is a contentious issue andit’s inevitably a subjective view. Some people mightprefer the palm fringed beaches of Hawaii or Thailand. But for me the windswept beaches of Cornwall have arugged beauty that is unmatched anywhere in theworld. Of course, as a local, I’m more than a little bitbiased. I’ve been visiting many of these beaches allmy life so have a strong personal connection withthese glorious, sandy beaches.

Best Beaches for FamiliesHolywell Bay continues to be one of my favouritebeaches in Cornwall. backed by high dunes which arefun for kids, this lifeguard patrolled beach has safeswimming areas and occasionally good waves forlearning to swim. This National Trust Beach is alsovery, very beautiful. I used to come here as a kid andplay for hours, enjoying a picnic and an ice cream inthis sandy idyll. Holywell Beach would be my pick ofthe beaches for family visitors to Cornwall. Othergreat family friendly beaches in Cornwall include LooeBeach, Praa Sands and Porthcurno Beach which isgreat for rock-hopping and exploration by young

Page 29: A sensational web site packed with information for Cornwall holidays

adventurers.

Best Beaches for SurfersCornwall’s position on the Atlantic Ocean, make it awave magnet for any swell that is travelling over theocean. As such it is the UK’s prime sur ng destinationwith more surf beaches and surf spots than any otherlocation in the British Isles. Fistral Beach is the mostfamous surf beach. This is where all the competitionstake place and where dozens of surf schools ply forthe trade of visitors who want to learn to surf. But if,like me, you prefer your beaches a little bit quieter, I’drecommend Widemouth Bay near Bude, MawganPorth, Porthtowan and Sennen Cove as ideal surfbeaches for a surf lesson while in Cornwall.

Best Beaches for WalkersCornwall is a perfect place for a holiday if you likewalking. The South West Coast Path takes walkersalong the beaches and clifftops of the beautifullyrugged Cornish coast. But there are some beachesthat could be considered walking destinations inthemselves. Marazion beach is a lovely stretch ofsand in Penzance Bay with a view dominated by theimpressive St Michael’s Mount. Crantock Bay nearNewquay is another great beach for a stroll. It’s along beach, with swirling waves, high sand dunes anda river estuary which it is possible to walk alongpartially at low tide. Walker looking for somethingmore strenuous should take a hike along the creeks,

Page 30: A sensational web site packed with information for Cornwall holidays

inlets and headlands and nd secret coves andbeaches they can enjoy all to themselves.

Best Beaches for DogsDogs are not allowed on all beaches in Cornwall. Infact there is a dog ban on many beaches during thesummer months. Dog owners should plan their tripcarefully and select only those beaches whichwelcome dogs. But please consider us locals andother beach users by cleaning up after your dog. Keepthese lovely beaches nice and clean for everyone toenjoy. popular dog friendly beaches include WatergateBay near Newquay, Gwithian Beach near Hayle andWhitsand Bay near Saltash. All these beaches aregreat for walkies, or for hanging out with your dog forthe day.

Best Beaches for FoodiesWhile most people will pack a picnic for their visit tothe beach, or at the very least pick up a famousCornish pasty for a hot snack on the sand, those whowant to make more of a meal of it have plenty ofoptions for enjoying a ne food while overlookinga beautiful, sandy Cornish beach. One of my personalfavourites is the Porthminster Cafe near St Ives. Thiscafe servers delicious seafood and snacksoverlooking the white sands and blue sea ofPorthminster Beach, which looks more Caribbeanthan Cornish. Over in Falmouth there is another greateatery galled the Gyllanvase Beach Cafe. They server

Page 31: A sensational web site packed with information for Cornwall holidays

a great selection of burgers, sandwiches and seafoodtapas to enjoy while looking out over the tranquilwaters of Cornwall’s south coast. Lusty Glaze Beachnear Newquay is a lovely little cove where you candine on great food with the water almost lapping atyour feet. It’s a great seaview dining experience.

The beaches listed here are just some of my personalfavourites. There are hundreds of beaches todiscover. Just get out there and explore. You willnever be disappointed by a Cornish Beach. And it’s notjust about summer, if you’re coming here in the wintercheck out this fantastic video from Visit Cornwall.
