The inTroiT 8:30 “Prepare Ye the Way” Oquist/ Talbot

Sung by Julie CaldwellThe Word of the Lord came one evening concerning His bride’s great sin. He’d send down His Word to renew her, to prepare for the Bridegroom again. The Word said, “Repent from seeking vain glories while the gifts in the Lord’s name you give. Repent of all the first stones cast to kill while your own self-righteousness lives.” Prepare ye the way for the Lord. Prepare ye the way for the kingdom. Prepare ye the way, prepare ye the way for the Lord. The Word said, “Repent and turn from your strivings. Repent and turn from your hatred. Repent from the doctrines of men that divide and fear like the wedding gown ripped. Walk in His love like newborn children. Walk in His love, let the wedding gown mend. Walk in His love, with humility come with pure hearts and cast all your cares to the wind.” The Word of the Lord came one evening concerning His bride’s sin. He assured me we will be forgiven and then let the marriages begin.

9:45 & 11:00 “Funga Alafia” (The Welcome Song) Sung by the Octane ChoirFunga Alafia ashe ashe. Our hearts are pure, our voices true. With open arms we welcome you! Funga Alafia ashe ashe. Our hearts are full, our friendship true. In peace and love we welcome you!

A candle is burning, a candle of peace, a candle to signal that conflict must cease. For Jesus is coming to show us the way; a message of peace humbly laid in the hay.

The biDDing Prayer Martha AenchbacherOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

The anThem“The Sky Can Still Remember”Sung by the Wesleyan Youth ChoirThe sky can still remember the earliest Christmas morn, when in the cold December the Savior Christ was born. No star unfolds its glory, no trumpet wind is blown, but tells the Christmas story in music of its own. O, angels sweet and splendid throng in our hearts and sing of the wonders which attended the coming of the King. Till we too boldly pressing where once the shepherds trod, climb Bethlehem’s hill of blessing and find the Son of God.

The firsT lessonGenesis 3:8-15, 17-19 Betsy ButlerGod tells sinful Adam that he has lost the life of Paradise and that his seed will bruise the serpent’s head.

The anThem “For Unto Us a Child is Born” from Messiah HandelSung by Sanctuary ChoirFor unto us a Child is born. Unto us a Son is given. And the government shall be upon His shoulder. And his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

The hymn 238 “Angels We Have Heard on High” GLORIAVerses 1 and 2

The anThem 8:30 “Mary Did You Know” Greene

Sung by Julie CaldwellMary, did you know that your Baby Boy would one day walk on water? Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy would save our sons and daughters? Did you know that your Baby Boy has come to make you new? This Child that you delivered will soon deliver you. Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy will give sight to a blind man? Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy will calm the storm with His hand? Did you know that your Baby Boy has walked where angels trod? When you kiss your little Baby you kissed the face of God? The blind will see. The deaf will hear. The dead will live again. The lame will leap. The dumb will speak the praises of The Lamb. Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy is Lord of all creation? Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy would one day rule the nations? Did you know that your Baby Boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb? The sleeping Child you’re holding is the Great I Am.

9:45 & 11:00 “Carols Sing, Praises Bring” TaylorSung by the Lyric and Celebrate ChoirCarols sing, praises bring unto Christ our Savior. Born this night, love’s true light in a lowly manger. Angels tell the story of His wondrous birth, Jesus came from glory, bringing peace on earth. Come now, joyful shepherds, see Him in the straw; though He’s in a manger, He is Lord of all.

The anThem “I Wonder As I Wander” McDermidSung by the Chamber EnsembleI wonder as I wander out under the sky how Jesus the Saviour did come for to die; for poor on’ry people like you and like I. I wonder as I wander out under the sky. When Mary birthed Jesus ‘twas in a cow’s stall with wise men and farmers and shepherds and all; but high from God’s heaven, a star’s light did fall and the promise of ages it then did recall. If Jesus had wanted for any wee thing, a star in the sky or a bird on the wing; or all of God’s Angels in heaven to sing, He surely could have it, ‘cause he was the King. I wonder as I wander out under the sky how Jesus the Savior did come for to die; for poor on’ry people like you and like I; I wonder as I wander out under the sky.

The fifTh lessonLuke 2: 8-18 Chuck HodgesThe Shepherds go to the manger.

The anThem “While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks” CourtneySung by the Sanctuary Choir While shepherds watched their flocks by night all seated on the ground, the angel of the Lord came down, and glory shown around. “Fear not” said he, for mighty dread has seized their troubled mind; “Glad tidings of great joy I bring to you and all mankind. To you in David’s town this day is born, of David’s line, the Savior, who is Christ the Lord, and this shall be the sign: The heav’nly Babe you there shall find to human view displayed, All meanly wrapt in swathing bands and in a manger laid. All glory be to God on high, and to the earth be peace: Good will henceforth from heav’n to earth begin and never cease.”

The sixTh lesson John 1:1-14 Chuck HodgesJohn unfolds the great mystery of the Incarnation.

Of the things that are, that have been, and that future years shall see evermore and evermore. O that birth forever blessed, when the virgin, full of grace, by the Holy Ghost conceiving, bare the Savior of our race; and the Babe, the world’s Redeemer, first revealed His sacred face, evermore and evermore! O ye heights of heaven, adore Him; angel hosts, His praises sing; powers, dominions, bow before Him and extol our God and King. The Advent WreathThe keeping of an advent wreath is a common practice in churches and homes. There is much symbolism associated with the Advent wreath. The wreath is made of various evergreens, signifying continuous life. The circle of the wreath, which has no beginning or end, symbolizes the eternity of God, the immortality of the soul, and the everlasting life found in Christ. The candles represent hope (First Sunday in Advent), peace (Second Sunday in Advent), joy (Third Sunday in Advent – the pink candle also known as the Shepherd’s Candle) and love (Fourth Sunday in Advent, also known as the Angel Candle). On Christmas Eve we light the center candle, known as the Christ candle, representing the birth of Christ. The season of Christmas begins on Christmas Day and lasts for 12 days – ending with the celebration of Epiphany on January 6.
