A Service of Worship including the

Sacrament of Communion

For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread,

and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said,

“This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying,

“This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

God’s People Gather for Worship

“By God’s grace alone and to his glory alone, we exist to worship God in his greatness and his holiness with Gospel-driven passion and integrity…” (excerpted from FPC Rome Mission Statement)

Preparing our Hearts

Prelude

Prayer of Invocation

Declaring God’s Praise

Responsive Call to Worship

Leader: God, our God, how glorious is your name in all the earth! Your glory is sung by all of your creation! ALL: When we look to the heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, we wonder — Who are we that you care for us and for this world? Leader: You are the God of life, crowning us with glory and honor to serve you all our days. ALL: O God, our God, how glorious is your name in all the earth!

Hymn of Praise “I Sing the Mighty Power of God” ELLACOMBE

I sing the mighty pow’r of God That made the mountains rise,

That spread the flowing seas abroad, And built the lofty skies.

I sing the wisdom that ordained The sun to rule the day;

The moon shines full at His command And all the stars obey.

I sing the goodness of the Lord That filled the earth with food;

He formed the creatures with His word And then pronounced them good.

Lord, how Thy wonders are displayed Where'er I turn my eye:

If I survey the ground I tread Or gaze upon the sky!

There's not a plant or flow’r below But makes Thy glories known;

And clouds arise and tempests blow By order from Thy throne;

While all that borrows life from Thee Is ever in Thy care,

And everywhere that we can be, Thou, God, art present there.

Affirming Our Faith

The Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made. Who, for us humans and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made human; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end. And I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Sermon “Gospel Gratitude” Rev. Bill Pardue

The Sharing of the Lord’s Supper

Hymn of Reflection “Fairest Lord Jesus” CRUSADERS’ HYMN

Fairest Lord Jesus; ruler of all nature, O Thou of God and man the Son.

Thee will I cherish; Thee will I honor, Thou, my soul's glory, joy, and crown.

Fair are the meadows; fairer still the woodlands, Robed in the blooming garb of spring.

Jesus is fairer; Jesus is purer, Who makes the woeful heart to sing.

Fair is the sunshine; fairer still the moonlight And all the twinkling starry host.

Jesus shines brighter; Jesus shines purer Than all the angels heav’n can boast.

Beautiful Savior! Lord of all the nations! Son of God and Son of man!

Glory and honor, praise, adoration, Now and forevermore be Thine!

Hymn of Response “Alleluia! Sing to Jesus” HYFRYDOL

Alleluia! Sing to Jesus! His the scepter, his the throne.

Alleluia! His the triumph, His the victory alone.

Hark! The songs of peaceful Zion Thunder like a mighty flood: “Jesus out of every nation

Has redeemed us by His blood.”

Page 5: A Service of Worship.… · 2021. 1. 17. · A Service of Worship including the Sacrament of Communion For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on

Alleluia! Not as orphans Are we left in sorrow now.

Alleluia! He is near us; Faith believes, nor questions how.

Tho’ the clouds from sight received Him When the forty days were o'er,

Shall our hearts forget His promise: "I am with you evermore"?

Alleluia! Bread of Heaven, You on earth our food and stay!

Alleluia! Hear the sinful Flee to You from day to day. Intercessor, Friend of sinners,

Earth's Redeemer, plead for me, Where the songs of all the sinless

Sweep across the crystal sea.

Today’s Scripture

Colossians 1:9-14 ESV

9 And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. 13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
