Clay Roof Repairs

First things first, when working on a tile roof rubber sole shoes are mandatory. The

tiles break easily so being careful while performing this repair is necessary. The

rubber sole shoes are important for safety reasons because the tiles can become

quite slippery when wet. The needed materials are as follows:

Preferred Clay Tiles

Hammer

Protective eye equipment

Ladder

Wood Strip (Thin)

Pry Bar

Tile Clips

Each tile will be replaced one by one. Fall protection equipment is a good way to

go, from a safety stand point. The following steps need to be followed for proper

replacement:

1. Step 1 is making sure your ladder is seated well.

2. Step 2 Remove the tile being replaced

a. Lift the corner of the broken tile

b. From underneath gently tap the tile with the hammer until it

breaks

3. To remove the nail use your pry bar

4. Attach tile clips to the center area of where the now missing tile was

seated

5. Replace the tile and remove the wooden wedge

6. Pull the replacement tile down until it catches the tile clip, and you are

all done

Each tile takes about an hour so be realistic on timing allowed for project. Replace

tiles one at a time.
