How do we know that something is of

the Spirit?


We relate to God through our spirit

• Romans 1:9 For God, whom I serve with my spirit

• Romans 8:16 it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God,


Discerning the Character of the Spirit

• We relate to God through our spirit


Often Hard to Tell whether Paul is talking about God’s Spirit or our spirit• 1 Corinthians 14:15 What should I do then? I

will pray with the spirit, but I will pray with the mind also; I will sing praise with the spirit, but I will sing praise with the mind also.

• 2 Corinthians 4:13 But just as we have the same spirit of faith that is in accordance with scripture

• Ephesians 1:17 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him

A Life-giving Spirit

• 1 Cor 15.45 Thus it is written, "The first man, Adam, became a living being"; the last Adam became a life-giving (life-making) spirit.

• 1 Corinthians 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed… 7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses. 12 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.
